Hello fellow Asheville Hoopers!

I am pleased to announce that I am now taking orders for custom made light-up LED Hoops, available for local delivery in the Asheville area.
I am offering these hoops locally at a special introductory price of $125 (for standard 16 LED hoops), including the smart charger.

My standard LED Hoops measure 40’’ in diameter and use 1’’ OD tubing.
I also have tubing in 7/8’’, 3/4’’ & 5/8’’ OD and can build a hoop anywhere from 20’’-46’’.

Each standard hoop has 16 LEDs, and the colors and design pattern of the LEDs will be
customized especially for you - I like each hoop to be unique! More or less LEDs can be used.

Available LED colors are: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, ultraviolet, pink, white,
slow color change rainbow, and fast color change/blinking rainbow.

The LEDs are powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, hard wired inside the hoop.
Each battery has a PCB chip, which protects the battery from over or under charging and
helps to extend it’s life. The battery will run the LEDs at full brightness for approx. 4.5 hrs.

All hoops come with a smart charger, which will fully recharge the hoop in approx. 2 hrs.

There is a small slide switch and a charging jack on the outside edge, flush with the hoop.

Each hoop is balanced by adding small weights opposite the battery.

LEDs and wiring are secured & padded, so there is no rattling or noise when hooping.

Hoops can be left bare, sanded for added grip, or taped with a variety of different gaffer’s or
decorative sparkly tapes.

Each hoop is rigorously tested, to ensure quality & durability.

I am offering a 6-month warranty on all hoops, and will repair or replace your hoop at no cost if the internal electrical components malfunction.

My website - http://cosmichooper.com - is still under construction, but you can check it out for information about my hoops and some photos. Eventually I will have an online hoop store, but for now I am taking custom orders through e-mail.

I can have your hoop ready within 1-2 days after receiving your order, and will personally deliver it to you anywhere in the Asheville area.
Hoops can also be shipped via FedEx Ground for approx. $16 (exact amount depends on hoop dimensions & location).

I also have some pre-made hoops completed and ready for purchase, or a demonstration if you want to try them out first.

If you are interested, please send me a message here or email me through the website.

I will also be attending the Trinumeral Festival at The Orange Peel & Deerfields 9/9-13, and will happily deliver your hoop to you there! :)

Happy Hooping!

Hi Hoopers! Some of you already know that I am now in training to run a half marathon. That's 13 miles to be run by a girl who has formerly only run when chased! I'm motivated to do this since joining a program called Team In Training, which is a fund-raising project of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Runners in this program receive training to run a marathon, and in return help raise money for blood cancer research. 75% of all money raised goes directly to research, and 25% is used to get the runners to the race, so you know your money is being used for good things rather than lining someone's pocket! I believe in this cause, being someone who has lost many loved ones to leukemia and other forms of cancer (who hasn't, really?)

I have set up a website to receive donations for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and it can be found here:

http://pages.teamintraining.org/nc/rnr09/ahowelb40c

Here, you can not only make a contribution, but find out more about blood cancers and Team in Training, including how you yourself can train with them. In just over 20 years, Team in Training members have raised almost a billion dollars for research! My fund raising goal is $4500, so any and all donations are very much appreciated.

Everyone on Tribe who donates to this website before next Thurs the 26th will be entered to win a custom-made hoop. It will be covered in sparkly, glittery tape and will make you smile!

Thanks to everyone who has helped so far and to everyone who will be contributing! I'll be thinking of you as I cross the finish line on May 31st!

I just moved up here so I unfortunately missed the last one and it looked like so much fun. Or maybe we could organize something else? Any thoughts appreciated.....

There's a huge meadow in between the paths right across from the dog park and my roommate and I have hooped there a few times. It's also an opportunity to give the dog owners something to look at besides their dogs. Please post if you plan to attend. I hope to see you all there!!

I just wanted to send you a personal invitation this evening to join me in
Asheville at Malaprops bookstore for a celebration, discussion, reading and
journey with the Anubis Oracle Book and Deck! Refreshments begin at 6:30 and
the actual event is from 7 -8pm.

I am very excited to share Anubis with you at a deeper level and also just
to see your shining faces and spirits this evening as we stand on the
threshold of another doorway of major change for our planet. I can't think
of a better time then now to invoke the spirit of Anubis to walk us through
the doorway to the future and remind us that WE ARE THE ONES WE HAVE BEEN
WAITING FOR! So please come and join me tonight as we invoke the memory of
who we really are from deep within our own DNA and embody the spirit of
Anubis , the Great Heart Shaman who leads the way to keeping our hearts open
and courageous.

This is the second book, along with my co author Nicki Scully that I have
published in two years. I am also working diligently on my next book, The
Shamanic Breathwork Journey to be released next year, but tonight the focus
is on Anubis and his oracle deck.

Nicki and I worked together night and day for two months last winter to
birth this amazing divination book and deck. It really represents the heart
and soul and principles of the work we have been offering through our
programs at Venus Rising for more than 12 years. Initially it was a
surprise to find that the spirit of Anbuis has been one of the main guiding
forces behind many of our teachings. However, the more I have gotten
acquainted with the heart and soul of Anubis and the powerful archetypal
presence he represents, I understand that he is the original wolf, the way
shower, the opener of the way , as he is called in ancient shamanic Egypt!!!
Certainly the Shamanic Breathwork and all the work we do at Venus Rising is
both eye opening and door opening on many different levels for all those we
serve.

I look forward to seeing you once again this evening in Asheville. Please
call if you need directions or have any questions.

Hey Everybody: I am going to hoop outside election lines in Raleigh Tuesday from 5:30 on. Lines are expected to be long and this is a way that you can help support voters -- by entertaining them while they wait. Yes, this was Obama's idea. It is not partison though. It helps every voter. Here is information from the Obama Campaign if you want to join in!

Dear Volunteer performers,

I’m a volunteer for the Obama campaign in North Carolina and am helping recruit volunteer performers to entertain people standing in line waiting to vote on Election Day. Sometimes the lines get really long and we want to keep voters happy while they wait.

We are looking for musicians, magicians, singers, acrobats, jugglers, tap-dancers, rap artists, clowns, mimes, puppeteers, basketball tricks, dog tricks, stilt walkers, church choirs, barbershop quartets, and anybody else who can volunteer to entertain a crowd and help keep every last Obama voter in line until they have voted! We are asking performers to be at selected polling places by 5:30pm on November 4 and entertain voters in line until everybody has voted. Polls close at 7:30pm, but performers could potentially be there until 9:00pm.

As a member of North Carolina’s creative community, we wondered if you yourself might be interested in volunteering to perform and/or if you could forward this email to your creative/performer friends and anyone you think could spread the word to performers. We especially need the help in Asheville, Winston-Salem, Greensboro, Charlotte, Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Fayetteville, Rocky Mount, Greenville, Elizabeth City, and Wilmington.

Please click on www.nc.barackobama.com/ncperform to sign up to volunteer to perform.

Please click on www.duopoly.net/CALL-FOR-V...FORMERS.pdf to download the poster and post it on bulletin boards at nearby theater departments, music departments, casting offices, churches with choirs. THANK YOU!

Please click on www.nc.barackobama.com/ncvolunteer to sign up to volunteer in other ways.
_________
Thank you so much for signing up to volunteer to help entertain voters standing in LONG LINES waiting to vote on Tuesday. If you have not received a call already, you will be hearing soon from either Emily or Marissa, who will be your coordinators on Election Day, this Tuesday, November 4th.

Emily’s contact: (919) 280-4134, pomeranze@dnc.org
Marissa’s contact: (703) 403-8873, mpmitrovich@gmail.com

I will not be available, but Emily or Marissa will tell you where you are needed and what time, and can answer any questions you have.
A few basic things:
· We will probably need you around 5:30 pm and until till the polls close
· We will get calls from the field telling us where there are long lines and either Emily or Marissa will call you and tell you the address to go to.
· It’s rain or shine
· Legally you have to be at least 50 feet from the poll, so we cannot provide an electrical outlet or cover from the elements.
· For musicians, acoustic acts are ideal, but in any case please plan on being self-sufficient
· Please do not GIVE anything physical to the voters – for you jugglers and clowns and artists, no giving of sketches, no balloon animals, etc. (you may face-paint CHILDREN only, not ADULT voters, but please do not paint anything partisan). Please do not juggle or do anything with flame.

If you have not already signed up on the system (Abel, Bash, Hardin), please do so as soon as possible: www.nc.barackobama.com/ncperform

If you have other friends who want to join the effort, please have them sign up right away at www.nc.barackobama.com/ncperform (we can still use more help, especially in Winston-Salem, Wilmington, Greenville, Rocky Mt., Elizabeth City, and Fayetteville!)

THANK YOU SO MUCH!! You are volunteering for a wonderful cause – to help encourage voters to stay in line and cast their vote. EVERY VOTE COUNTS! Especially in North Carolina!

Many thanks and best wishes,Liz Manne

Hey Hoop Enthusiasts~

Having witnessed the vibrant hoop vibes at local events and festivals, the organizers of this years Jordan Lake Arts & Music Festival have invited hoopers to come play. They are so excited about the hooping presence that they are giving FREE PASSES to hoopers!

WHAT: Jordan Lake Arts & Music Festival

WHY: FREE PASS for hoopers

WHEN: Sat & Sun, Oct 4 & 5

TIME: 10 am - 6 pm both days

CHECK MUSIC and DETAILS: www.jordanlakeartsandmusic.org/index.htm
I've been assured the grounds are hoopable (flat and foot friendly.)

CAMPING: If you want to camp, there is a state park by the Lake. The organizers will help shuttle folks from festival site to camping area. Fires are allowed in the state park.

TRAVELING HOOPERS: If you decide you want to come visit the Carrboro area, this week could be a great time. You can get into this fest for free, then stay around for weekly events and hit Shakori Hills Grassroots Music Festival on Thursday (Oct 9 - 12)

www.shakorihills.org~ $75 for weekend pass

OR if the Shakori site doesn't grab you, there is another festival with kick ass music at Deerfields the same weekend. (I'm kinda bummed not to go b/c the Roots and Lettuce + many other groovy bands are playing!)
www.lokifestival.com

RSVP: If you are interested in a free pass, let me know. I want to give them a sense for how many folks might come. I'm not sure they can afford to give free passes to every hooper in the triangle (geez! I can't imagine how many folks that is:-).
Write me at hoopflow@gmail.com so I can compile a guest list.

Your attendance or RSVP DOES NOT MEAN: you have to perform, teach, wear furry calf boots, bring extra hoops, join a cult, or even commit to being there rain or shine. We are just trying to get an estimate of potential passes offered.

(Do any of the above that you would like to do of course!)

In festival flow,
Jewels

The Chill Spin Zone is a low-key, safe place for spinners and dancers of any skill level. It is both a learning and a teaching environment as well as a non-competitive play space. There will be music, workshops, classes and freeform fun throughout the weekend. Look for us in the Elyssium Fields.

The Chill Spin Zone and Skillz Exchange is brought to you by Philosopher's Stone, Bubble Camp, Ripe and Juicy and many wonderful and giving teachers from all over Mysteria. It is a unique opportunity to teach, learn, connect and share in a cooperative and safe space from a variety of amazing teachers and performers. It is also a great opportunity to make friends and build community. And the first step to organizing it is a Call For Teachers!!!

Everyone has something to teach. Everyone has something to learn.

What do you have to share? Mysteria needs you!

Please let us know what you'd be interested in sharing. If there is a time or day that's better for you, let us know that too. Once we get everyone's feedback, we will make a schedule of workshops that will be posted online as well as in the Chill Spin Zone. TITS will also be announcing upcoming workshops throughout Mysteria.

Here is a list of the workshops that were offered last year. Let's use this as a framework to build upon. Feel free to share something new and different or sign on to teach one of these amazing skills:
- Staff
- Double Staff
- Fire Fans
- Hooping
- Tribal Dance
- Poi
- Fire Eating

Please indicate what skill level you are interested in teaching (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced) and sign up even if someone else has already volunteered. More is better! If there is something unique about the workshop you want to teach, give us a little information about that also.
Surrounding the ponds and two authentic cabins, apple orchards and rhododendrons cascade throughout the Queens Creek Mountains. She was hooping really great! I saw her using two hoops at once and then hooping one around her bent arm...like on the elbow (I don't know the names of any tricks yet). Anyways, I wanted to go talk to her, but by the time I went inside to one of the shops and came out, she was gone, but her car was still there. Was that anyone from AH??
So I will be bringing about 10 freshly made hoops to share, & I would like to host a Hoop taping party Sun-Day & Mon-Day. I have a small assortment of colored electrical tape, but it would be great if more people **(Smiles & looks at You)** would bring different colored, sparkly, shinny, reflective tape to add to OUR new Hoops.

Hoop Convergence April 11 - 16, Carrboro, NC

SCHEDULE (subject to change:-)

Times, arrangements and final teacher details are still being negotiated.
Some classes/activities will be for everyone. There will also be break-out sessions where we divide to meet in smaller groups.

FRIDAY: ARRIVAL

To welcome you to Chapel Hill, NC, we will offer an evening for arrival and orientation. This evening will allow time for a deep breath, casual hooping, nourishing potluck, camp or bunk set-up, meeting other hoopers and orienting for the days ahead.

SATURDAY: THE HOOPING BODY

Saturday will focus on the hoop, our bodies and the relationship and possibilities created between the two.

Circle Up: Saturday we will begin the introduction to the circle with a forum on hoop craft. As the basis of the practice, the hoop, in its varying dimensions, weight, aesthetics, grip and balance affects the experience of hooping. Hoops of differing sizes and weights open new doors for movement possibilities and thus physical, mental and spiritual benefits. There will be time for sharing thoughts on the craft and perhaps make a new hoop.

Movement Workshops: 11 am – 4 pm

Classes on Saturday will focus on foundations, injury prevention (Ariana), flexibility & strength training for hooping (TBA), Handwork (Caroleeena) and compiling a movement inventory (full group activity.)

JAM: Integration time at Town Commons with live music 5 – 9 pm (All ages.)

SUNDAY: COMMUNITY / SHARING & PRESENTING THE DANCE

Sunday’s themes will focus on taking the hoop into the community. We will focus on ways to facilitate hooping in your community, event planning, stylizing the hoop dance and dressing for the occasion.

Circle Up: Annie O, creator of World Hoop Day, will host a morning forum with the assistance of Jewels, creator of Hoops for Haiti and Caroleeena who started the Henrietta Jensen Outreach and Education Project in Jamaica. This will be a great time to envision a community event or social service project for your hometown or a sister community.

Circle Up: In the interest of community, on both local and global levels, Alicat, will host a forum on Sustainability and Hooping. You may be able to educate your community with some of these ideas when you return home for Earth Day.

Weaver St Market Jazz Bruch: 11 am – 1 pm

This is a special spot for us Carrboro hoopers, as Spiral & Jewels began a ritual of getting dressed up and taking bundles of colorful hoops to this space to complement their weekly music events. We believe that this has been a key component to promoting the joy of hooping in Carrboro, NC. This event is free to the public, offers great brunch and beverage options and hosts live music. Great for all ages.

Movement Workshops: 1 – 5 pm

Save some energy because we will be going straight from brunch to workshops for the afternoon. Workshops will feature advanced moves (Stefan of Groovehoops), Street Hooping aka Busking (Revolva), Spinning (Jewels & Spiral) and HoopYoga (TBA.)

Craft: late afternoon/early evening

Sunday evening will feature a crafting, trading and costuming event. Annie Weinhart, of Annieland, will offer a no-sew costume techniques workshop in the late afternoon. This will kick off the costuming and crafting portion of the Convergence. This evening will be an opportunity to create, envision or trade pieces of hoopable clothing or patterns. After much consideration, we don’t believe it will be quite workable to have 30 sewing machines in one room, but we will have a few for easy sew patterns in addition to other fun possibilities. We will let you know how much fabric you need to bring for the workshop. Please begin to collect the fun clothing or chunks of fabric that no longer suit you, but may be passed on or traded.

MONDAY: PERFORMANCE

Monday’s workshops will highlight performance aspects of hoopdance. While not all of us are professional performers, each demonstration for a class, group or community event involve some elements of performance and presentation. Let’s face it, whenever we go out to dance with a hoop, we are on display and are communicating with spectators. Hooping is a form of communication, thus considering these elements of the dance is like honing your conversational skills.

Circle Up: Performance Theories, Tips and Personal Stories

Movement Workshops: 10 – 2

Workshops will feature Choreography (Stefan), Engaging an Audience (TBA), Partner Techniques (Ammon & Marria)

Make-Up Techniques: 4 pm

Christine & Patika will lead us through a workshop on make-up application to highlight our natural beauty prior to a super sweet jam. Professional performers and make-up artists, they will surely host an informative and fun pre-ball party.
Full spectrum of needs to be announced.

JAM: Hoop hop set 7 – Midnight (Final details to come.)

With its bumping bass kicks and lyrical flowetry, Hip Hop has had tremendous influence on some of us Carrboro hoopers. This evening will feature live instrumental hip hop jams for your spinning pleasure. This may also be a time to offer a performance to the circle of hoopdancers. Part of the evening will also be DJ’d with a variety of styles of grooviness.

TUESDAY: FIRE

Circle Up: Alicat will facilitate a forum to Compare/Contrast Fire Hoop Designs Safety. Several fire hoop designers will be present to show their fire hoops and tell stories of their creation. Ali will introduce other designs (for some not present) and discuss the differences, advantages, disadvantages, etc. You will also leave the Convergence with an extensive safety packet compiled by Caroleeena.

Craft: After viewing a variety of fire hoop designs and meeting some crafters, we will offer this time for a hands’ on experience of fire hoop craft. This will be a collaborative project as creating a fire hoop is a labor intensive endeavor. We hope to introduce materials, tools, techniques for wick wrapping and complete one hoop to christen during the evening burn!

Movement Workshops: Afternoon

Workshops will feature Fire Hoop practice, Twin Hooping (Jewels & Spiral), HoopYoga (TBA), More (TBA)

Fire: After Dark

Fire Dancing and Drumming~ Gathering around a fire is a sacred, traditional ritual. As humans, we have lost some of our connection with fire in modern times and thus lost respect for its tremendous power of sustaining, transformation and healing. Fire is a powerful element with powers of creation and destruction. We will offer time to initiate, perform and share fire dancing experiences to burn away that which we no longer need and send prayers, hopes and wishes for the future through this dance. We hope this evening will be fiery, fun and ritualistic as we channel our Shiva energies. Incredible rhythms provided.

WEDNESDAY: HEALING HOOP DANCE

Wednesdays themes will focus on Cultivating Creativity, Nurturing Spirit, Healing Potentials of Hoopdance, Working with Special Populations and Social Outreach.

Circle Up: Hooping as Healing Art and Social Service

Writing Your Hoopdance (Revolva), Hooping as Sacred Movement (Jewels), Hooping with Special Populations (Ariana & Laura), Hooping & The Chakras (Tracey), More TBA

Closing ceremonies TBA

We are also including some business and teaching information. Some info will be included in the orientation packet for you. Circle Ups on these topics TBA. More details are being finalized everyday. Stay tuned for teacher bios and more details on events.

REGISTRATION
Full event, five days = $350 (This includes all workshops, jams, forums)
Three days = $250
Day passes = $95
Class or event passes will be released as times are confirmed and may vary depending upon the event. Some events will be free and open to the public.

We wanted to give everyone advance notice of this amazing event. Last year, we were only able to give two months notice, and we had some hoopers who were not able to come. We had such a good time last year, that we hope that this notice comes early enough that all who would like to come, can make it.

The 2nd Annual National Hoop Path Retreat dates are now set for June 26- June 29th, 2008. We decided to bump up the dates from July so that we do not conflict with Transformus, or the heat of July's southern Sun.

We will follow the same schedule as last year, but will offer an additional beginner set of workshops (three day intensive) immediately preceding the Intermediate/Advanced Workshops each of the three days.

We will provide you with all the details and the full schedule very soon.

If you're too curious to wait, here are some links to last year's event. These are just to give everyone and idea of what this event is like. Please keep in mind that these posts are about last year's retreat.
Future of Tradition Productions and Arts2People have joined forces for the Asheville Holiday Parade! To foster community support for the arts, we are constructing a float with the theme of a Magic Carpet Ride, and entering it in the float contest. We are excited for the opportunity to bring people together for a day of fun, food & art to make this dream a reality. The parade theme this year is 'creating community thru celebration' - let's start with a party!

We will have the first Art Party on Oct 28 - 12 - 7 PM, at Kitty's. We will be making banners, assembling & painting the magic carpet and making the giant tassels. No artistic talent required, just enthusiasm. Please bring something to eat or drink and your creativity! Kid and new mom-friendly.

Watch the entries here!

FIRST PLACE: SHARNA ROSE
Please find attached my enteries to the Hot Hoop Move contest. I had big problems uploading my my footage (youtube mashed its quality so I had to send dv quality images - they took nearly an hour for 20 seconds worth of film - this is why the clips are so short.) So I apologise for the unglamourous way that I have presented the films - I hope you can see the moves enough to get the general idea.

Move 1. Flipper (A Reversal) - Start this move from hooping around the knees. Can be done either side but for the purposes of the demonstration I have done it clockwise. You will need to remove your right leg from the hoop when the gap occurs (if you were doing a kick out you would move the other leg) and then you use the foot to reverse the hoop using the knee as a pivot. Reverse the instructions to do this the other way - Its really hard either way and I cant always get it - the music has to be just right - or I don't practice it enough.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ym_P8__DRq0

Move 2. Back around the Summit - Start this move standing upright and lean forward as if you were going to take the hoop behind your back and pop in. If you take the hoop with your left hand then as you come around the right side of your body you need to put your right elbow up and into the hoop, using your body as a pivot push with this elbow and pull back with the left hand. Reverse the instructions for the other side.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ekDuhjQQEE

Move 3. Jack in the Box - Start this move by doing a Reversed Summit. In this clip I start by taking the hoop around my back with my left hand - Instead of reversing the move with the elbow behind the back pop back into the hoop and use your right hand to swing the hoop onto your body (tip - use your left hand to stall the hoop and help with momentum when reversing and turn the direction the hoop is now going in). I find it more difficult to go the other way. You reverse the instructions but somehow my body gets in the way - I think more practice is required by me or it needs more swing.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQ7fVdbGQVU

Move 4. Back Heel Flick - Start by standing upright, hooping clockwise, and pass the hoop infront and behind the body horizontally at about knee hight. On passing the hoop in front of the body with left hand use the right heel to scoop the hoop behind and up as high as you can behind your back - use your left hand to push the hoop back on your body as you pop back in. This only works this way because if you reverse the instructions the hoop is passed infront of the body.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSlfQeLDsYw

Move 5. Wind up - Start by standing upright, hooping clockwise, and pass the hoop around the body horizontally in front and behind you. As the hoop comes back around your left side to the front, place your right foot on the far of the hoop and push the hoop around so that it comes over your right side, over your head and release your left foot (you can either hold the hoop with both hands or just your right). Twist the hoop over your body again using right hand and jump out backward from the hoop - take the hoop back around to the right behind you, using right hand, and pop in. Turn. Reverse the instructions for going the other way.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPPYrAy4gS0

SECOND PLACE: Erica Edelman
YouTube Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P90mutX0tUg
Moves:
Move 1: Celeste / Luna
Difficulty: Beginner
Notes: This is a fun move that even brand new hoopers can do. The challenge is keeping your balance at the end without hopping, but if you only do a half-turn, then it is much easier (but less fun!) I asked my beginner students to name it, and they came up with either Celeste or Luna, because the end pose looks like those pictures of a lady in the moon.

Move 2: Fun Start
Difficulty: Beginner
Notes: Both this move and the previous move can be done by brand new hoopers. I was trying to figure out the "circus start" move (which I can't do) when I stumbled upon this little gem. Newbie Hoopers love it, because it is a fun and easy way to start hooping, instead of just pushing it around the waist.

Move 3: One Shoulder Duckout from Waist Hooping
Difficulty: High Intermediate
Notes: For a while I was exploring with One Shoulder Duckout variations. I put this move on a video on my website showing those variations but no one ever seemed to pick it, or the other variations, up. This one is pretty fun, but not too pretty. I generally don't do it in performances, because it does not have a high enough success ratio. (i.e. it ocassionally goes flying)

Move 4: Isolation with Turn
Difficulty: Advanced
Notes: This is a new one for me. Lots of hoopers do isolations, but I don't think I have ever seen any add a turn to it. It is difficult, but definitely do-able for anyone who already has a one-handed isolation down.

Move 5: "Not the Matrix"
Difficulty: High Advanced
The base of this move is from last year for me, but the end of it is new. It starts out going from a left shoulder duck-out to a right shoulder duck-out WITHOUT putting your head in the hoop. Now, the new part for me: THEN it goes in front of you (without your head inside, again) to a left arm duck-out. If I can get that last piece to a left SHOULDER duck-out, then I can make the move continous.

SECOND PLACE: JESSICA SPARKS
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ScregYQ55to
The move: SCISSOR SWITCH
accomplished by stepping out of the hoop while hooping on your knees, and using your outside knee to change currents/directions.

THIRD PLACE: NATASHA YOUNG
I call this move the spin cycle. It's swish into a toss with a spin.
My sister used to do this move when she was a baton twirler. A lot of
off body hoopdancing is similar to baton (warrior, for example) so I
thought I would give this trick a try. It's called a one spin in
baton, but I've seen them do three spins and four spins! What I
learned from watching the baton twirlers are the following:
(1) the higher you toss, the more time you have to spin around before
catching the hoop
(2) you need to throw the hoop as straight up into the air as possible
(3) always spot the hoop so that you are always aware of where it is

a couple of concerns
please chime in folks! this is a CommUNITY hoop circle :-)

time?
should we start a little earlier b/c of daylight savings?

day?
is wednesday still good with folks or would another day be better? last couple of weeks we've had a good turn out

* winter* location?
it would be sooooooo nice if we could host our hoop circle indoors for the really cold months
anyone have ideas on a free or really cheap space to host our circles?
i have a friend who lives on carolina lane( the"alley" downtown) off lexington ave
we could possibley do the circle there...just that it has space for a couple of hoopers and low basement ceilings
so keeping options open...
i would like to come up with a proposal for CUP (center of unlimited possibilites) and maybe some schools or community centers with an indoor gym
so lets brainstorm on this together
we are a hoop community and we are what we make it

The Full Moon Gatherings are basically community parities that always happen on the full moon, and local DJs spin great music, usually breakbeats, ambient, and trance. the event is free, but donating a few dollars is always nice. it starts tomorrow night, prolly around 10:30ish, at the arts center on merrimon ave.
the area's i had in mind are the
Botanical Gardens at UNCA
Azalea Park
Pritchard Park downtown
Maybe perhaps Montford Commuity Center, where the ampitheatre is and the big field...
