Actually, I do, and thanks for reminding me that I have books coming due soon! I also have a library room in my house, and I'm SURE that I haven't read all of the books, so maybe I should visit my own library <lol>. Hi, Mary : ).

      Pixie libraries
      are full ov shiny objects,
      twinkly things,
      huckleberriez,
      string,
      bits ov crayons,
      pinatas,
      an' small adult toys.

      We also allow chickens
      in all library branches.

        Books are for squares
        Tarts and suchlike folks
        The English language is
        A practical joke
        Just look at the mutha
        It's a wanton whore
But I have been rough enough
So I'm going to stop literally slapping
        This bitch
Else I might get a reputation
        As some kind of
        shakespearn war
Hey nonny nonny here I go
        God save the queen
        And my ego

I do use my library, even if it is the State of Kansas Audio library these days. I do like to go to the real library and check out quilting books and art books as inspiration.

Oh, yeah, hey Mary! When I was a kid every summer I would sign up for the reading program at the library, I would read and read all summer long. I guess I am rather bookish.

I live a mile outside of city limits. so i would have to pay some outrageous amount of money to use the local library.

            Good Morning Mary,
I am a HUGE library fan--and as a sailor whenever I have spent time in an area I have always checked out their libraries.

Best: Jacksonville Florida. Jax as a whole SUCKS but they have one of the best library systems I have ever seen.

Worst: As long as there are books it can't be that bad.

            Hi Mary!
I love libraries and use the one in my town, when I can.

Artemis, I think it is totally wrong for them to charge people who live outside the city limits. It's crap. They do it here too. Books are for everyone and everyone should have equal access to them. That's the whole point. Anyway, here's a suggestion... Do you have a family member that lives in the city limits? Use their address instead when you apply for a library card. Or have them check the books out for you.

I use my library every week. Well Mobile Library services its now called, what was wrong with bookmobile? Hey Artemis, I wonder if you have a bookmobile in your area.. I live 30 miles from the city limits and they do not charge me anything. Beside that they let you have books longer when you get them at the bookmobile. I have a friend in denver who works the main branch downtown.
    Hey mary. :D

i love love love the library !! before i got my new computer & air card [i just plug it in and have access to the net anywhere, even out in the middle of a field of clover if i want to get bit by ants] anyway, where was i? oh! i went everyday to use the library computers for genealogical research i'm doing. plus, its a great place to settle in with all the magazines i wouldnt buy but like to read. i can even check out a stack of them that are not the current issue. the video selection is great, but i never seem to watch them once i check them out.. too busy reading!! my one disappointment is that the librarians no longer suggest patrons keep their voices down, and as groups of moms with their little ones are coming and going for story time, its so noisy i can't concentrate . the kids are running about skeeking and chirtling, and the moms are chatting loudly with each other. i imagine they are as excited as the little ones, having real-life grown-ups to talk to, and dont realize they are disturbing people, but i wish there was a sign suggesting quiet... aunt bea, i'd love to see you on a poster saying "shhhh this means you! " you are so sweet and kindly no one would take offence, but wid dem mussels mudda...oooh you'd get no lip!

Hello Mary I hope you ain't scarey Mary.

I stumbled into a library today, looking for a mate to get drunk with.

Instead I found these pensioners reading books
polite to the polI'm not sure if it was the musty old books or the pensioners but I loved that smell bigtime. (I was politr to the penshioners and pretended it was the books I was sniffing but I suspect it mght have been them)

    Right. The library..

I love reading. Parting with a good book seems like giving something precious away. .so I tend to purchase and keep them. Totally selfish.. but I do lend them out - but not to just anyone.. Nevertheless I do borrow books.. but generally from friends - most of who also read. When I first read the title of this thread - I was thinking "your library" as in *my* bookshelves :).. then oh.. the PUBLIC library.. Ahhhhh.. now I get it.. I don't go often.. but often do to look at /read old/expansive/rare books.. the one I go to the most is a small private library of specialist books.. the last one I borrowed was written and published in the 1890's - I love really old tombs- the smell... I did a history major and used to love going into the rare book collection to read old texts.. with special gloves on and having been taught to handle old books correctly. I love having an old volume in front of me and thinking of thousands of people who might have read it..a connection to the past and the people who have left us..

Hi Mary ! .. but shhhh - you haveta be quiet in the library !

I feel like I'm doing the general population a service by NOT going to the library! I am TERRIBLE about returning things and it's better to leave them in the library where people who can't afford to buy books obsessively from Amazon.com can have them. I buy a lot of used books there and also borrow from friends and colleagues. I also do authors a favor by buying books new when possible! I LOVE books! I used to hang out in the library a lot, but that was before I had a job!

My home of Portland, Oregon, is blessed with a fine library system. I rarely check out books, as I always own a good stack of books to read. I'm glad to see the basic form of the book survive the internet and our latest electronic toys. I like browsing the periodical section in my local branch infrequently, to read newspapers from other cities I have a connection to. Our libraries have also become defacto day shelters for our homeless population.

Yells out, "Hey Mary, wanna quieten down a bit?"
Momma don't 'low no 'shhhhh -in'! around here.
I used to get chased out of our library on a regular basis. I'd brouse till I found something interesting and procede to get lost in the pages. I don't much anymore, except to check out stuff I can't find here in this virtual world of net-stuff.I hit it maybe once a month unless I'm on a treasure hunt. Something about the written word I can't explain. I can access a lot of their goddies from right here but a book is a book is a friend.
You should see the books in this house! Tons, actual honest tons!
