I do love a crane. We had a big blue one for 1 1/2 years working on the hospital tower across the street and I used to sit in my office and watch it, instead of working. The guy that ran it had to climb all the way up into that cab every morning and then back down at night. The cab was airconditioned, but didn't have a bathroom. (I think he had to put in a catheter every morning).

I loaded logs in a barge with the machinery type.
I sat very still on a creek bank while fishing, and watching a bird type hunt breakfast, It was a long-legged grey thing with a really sharp looking stabbing type bill. I was a lil' kid then and I was astounded Beats the hell out of those lil' wrens.

When I lived in Alabama there were tall birds that stood on the beach sometimes, I think they were cranes, not sure. They were nearly as tall as me, and a blue grey color. I've been as close as 12 to 15 feet on several occasions. They were not that scared of people.

    Hi Lester!

those could have been Herons, or Storks as well.

Those were Great Blue Herons, no doubt. I live damn close to Chesapeake Bay and we have large numbers of them around here. When they are disturbed by humans or another of their own kind, they let out this awesome prehistoric sounding croak/call. They must be related to the dinosaurs.
I've watched them hunt/fish before, amazing. Stand still as a tree for hours, fish or frog comes by, and WHAM! They shoot that deadly-sharp beak forward at blinding speed and grab prey in an instant. Toss back their head and guuullllp, fresh fish dinner!
