e-bay is viable. i've bough and sold. buying can be an adventure. ive had successes and less than successes. but selling seems to work fine. and someone wants to buy dang near everyhing.
warning: he surgeon general has determined that e-bay, like tribe and other technotoys, can be addicive and hazardous to your mental healh and credit card balance.

I have bought many things on Ebay. Lately, I have been on there reading all of the info that I can because I intend to start selling. There seems to be a good day to list things so that they will expire on Sunday. I thought that was good advise.

Just go on there and read all that you can. Also, there is an Ebay tribe that you can join. You will need to have a pay pal account to send and receive money. The money that you get from your account doesn't have to come though you bank account. They will send you a check if you prefer. Also, you need to know what it cost to load pictures, how much pay pal charges for the transaction and so forth. Do your homework on their site. It is full of info Bite Me.

Another thing. Be sure to describe everything in detail. Also, you need to have or not a return policy. It just makes for good business. You also need to understand about reserves. That is the least you will take for something and set it up that if that amount is not met that the item will not sell. Sometimes, this is not a good idea. It depends on how much it is worth to you. Sometimes it works well and at others it doesn't.

      Good luck.

Ive spent a lot of time on Ebay. It is quite addicting. Ive bought many things, and sold many things.

For buying... check the price of what you are getting on normal websites, as well as on ebay if you are not sure that you will actually be getting a deal. For example, I wanted to buy my daughter an idog for christmas for her ipod. The one i wanted, on Ebay was like $38 plus s&h, and when I went to hasbro (i think thats wherei got it) it was $29 after s&h.

For selling.... make sure you REALLY know your item. People will ask teh strangest questions. Put as much detail about your item on your listing. Pictures are a must! I also highly recommend doing a gallery picture. Selling is very hit or miss, just depends on what people are looking for. If you notice that there is like 100 of the same item on there... don't list that same item, unless you can offer a much lower price. Otherwise it's just a waste of your money. Depending on what kind of thing you are looking at selling, definetly familiarize yourself with teh ebay rules. They have some crazy ones. When you list something, make sure you have everything you will need to ship it, so the customer wont have to wait.

Paypal is a must!!! I know some people really don't like it, but sooo many people have automatic payment through paypal, that it is much better. I also would not recommend checking the box that allows people to just send you cash. Check/money order paypal, stuff like that is much better.

Always leave the most positive feedback that you feel comfortable doing, unless they were absolutely horrible. If you leave negative feedback, a lot of times, people will do teh exact same to you... and that lowers your score. What some people do, is mark it positive feedback, and then in teh area where you can type a comment, will say what thing it was that kinda upset them... such as "took a long time to ship".

For selling, another good site is Auctiva.com it has some pretty cool layouts, and uploading pictures through there is free.

ebay is great but like everything you have to know about what you are looking for to know if it is actually a deal.

Some of the things P or I have bought thru it, with good results....

    An old motorcycle.
    A 800 lb metal lathe.
    My first laptop.

We have been burned a couple of times. But many more good experiences than bad. Plus it is a great source for obscure things for a current project.

If you are thinking of selling things that you make, Etsy.com is another place.

    Are you try

I'm "getting my feet wet" by selling stuff around the house first.... while looking around I noticed a demand for math tutorials/manipulatives for homeschoolers, which is right up my alley. Since I'm not currently under contract for curriculum development whatever I create for my use/my school's use I can also package and sell - basic kits with lesson plans, etc.

ya know...my mom actually wrote an article (or two...I think she did two one for buyers and one for sellers) about e-bay. She does her business on there. I should see if she would send them to me and I could send them to you or copy the text here for you guys.

naw I just looked at them and they are very specific to the thing she buys and sells and the one for sellers is more geared to people doing a business with ongoing stuff than someone selling stuff sometimes.
