does any one have any tips on breaking a cat from getting on counter! I recently adopted a 5 year old rambunctious male (neutered) cat.He is a one great cat, expect he thinks he can get on the counter, kitchen sink, and eat what he might find. When we catch him he gets squirted with water, but it doesn't seem to phase him a lot. So now he gets squirted when he goes in the kitchen. He has improved, but today he found the trash!! Very bad. My hubby who eats meat, put chicken bones in the trash and Vinadloo, couldn't resit, and knocked over the can popped the lid and went for the tasty scraps! I told my husband that if he too went gave up meat and joined the vegetarian world of yum, then the cat wouldn't find anything of interest! But that's not going to happen! So I'm hoping someone might have an idea or two to change vin's badness to goodness!!

Re: naughty feline
Sun, September 9, 2007 - 9:55 AMI have always had substancial success (not absolute... cats push their boundries) teaching 'em limitations by blowing noisily (a little thru your teeth) right at their face WHILE they are getting into trouble. They seem to hate the blast of air/noise (my mocha breath?). Then give affection to say "thanks". Over time, just making a slight blowing sound will work from accross the room! My meowie-monster often looks at me when she's not sure if she's getting into trouble to see what I have to say about it. Cool, huh?
Never heard of anyone else doing this so lemme know how it works for you.
Good luck. -

Re: naughty feline
Mon, September 10, 2007 - 10:18 AMthere is this reverse tape stuff that you can get which cats HATE to jump on. They end up landing on the sticky side and don't like that feeling at all.
but for me I just let them go wherever they wish, after all it's their home too :-) -

Re: naughty feline
Mon, September 10, 2007 - 8:23 PMgood tips I'm trying to make a whistling sound, and catch Vinadloo in the act. I have put double sided tape in some key spots but the after effects are sticky and icky. (used the tape method to keep other felines away from some house plants they thought were tasty) I really wouldn't care if he visited the counters and left things alone, but he thinks he needs to eat my food. I don't eat his, and I rather he didn't eat mine.
