I'm kinda curious (been jobless for over 5 months now) and wondering how many of the people on this tribe are similarly pounding pavement looking for work. I have a suspicion that the numbers for unemployment are being tweaked so it doesn't seem as bad as it really is.

Sat, September 12, 2009 - 6:16 AMUnemployment figures are delayed. Plus, they don't figure in freelancers and most contractors.

Re: Jobless rate on this Tribe?
Sun, September 13, 2009 - 11:01 PMI,m quasi employed, i work non stop for 2.5 months, twice a year, and fill in with what I can In betweeen, but I,m only able to charge about the same as I was making 7 years ago in my trade because of all the cheap labor from mexico, , and over abundence of ntative workers who need work too. I figured some sort of job is better than none, and i still mange to make the same or more than someone who works year round at a lower paying job. I saw this economic doom coming more or less in the late 90,s
just been hanging around to watch it all implode. ther's 8 empty houses across the street from mine for sale for less than they would have been ten years ago, albeit there in deplorable shape.
Inflation adjusted most folks houses are worth the same to less than paid for them all over counrty, I heard a news snipet that over fift percent of existinf mortages in US are higher than the actual houses value currently.
i could buy three houses in my neighborhood, but I just keep all my $$ in bank, county taxes to high, codes a bunch of crap for renovation
and who are you going to rent them to anyway? evrybody doesn't have a job, and a landlord has to rent a house for at least 800 to 1200$ a month even in doom areas jusr to pay county tax, so houses just sit vacant, or idiots buy them, fix them up, can't rent them to make the numbers work, then sell them about three years later to another chump, i watch the cycle over and over, and only government makes any money, the landlord barely breaks even, the tenants live in a dump , and only county gets ahead.
Nobody I know has a job, like you go to it 40 hours a week etc, just peole have some work maybe here or there
I haven't worked officially since july 6 all my old customers are dead or broke.
I was up in new england during August working though under table so to speak, theres a little more trade work up there, not so many Illegals like GA, We just have had the whole stinking world move to metro Atlanata in last 20 years. to many cars people etc,
thers no way the job market will ever really improve here, at least bask to any sembllence of what it was in late 80s early 90s which was a better time, although back then we thought it was a tough job market?,
I thought The IT barbarian would have been employed?
Maybe we can all go defend a pile of rubble in Afgahnistan? or be comunity volanteers for ACORN?
I love this stimulus plan, NH state took all its stimulus $$$ and just kept 730 stateemplyees jobs secure, allmost no money from stimulus in NH went to actually "stimulate" anything,
and the banks are all messed up way worse than there telling us, trust me, there is till some major crap to hit the reality fanblades in the financial industry.
