went down sat to chk it out, kind of like too strucutured for me, police check points everywhere to get in to free event,
didn't like the no skateboards or bikes or dog trip, although the one cop I went by let me in with my skateboard, I told hime I was 44 and wasn't going to trash anything.
The artwork was alot better over all than the stuff I used to see maybe 10, 20 years ago, but not as many booths,
kind of felt stale, the grass really looks nice now, but there so worried about it now they never use the open spaces for much anymore
I rember one there always was atleast a few giant garbage art things taking up a lot of space on the greens areas, although they were always temporary, stuff like that made the whole park feel like a big gallery, and you could carry beer around anywhere and the cops wern't all over the place, people had some manner back then?
didn't see any street performers, maybe i was early?
but i heard they had been talking about moving away from park?
so some art festival , is better than no art festival, but maybe some more spread out stuff, not all shoved into one area?
and the corporate chumps all over booth trying to get you to buyt cellualr phone service etc?
I know function needs money, but there were almost as many tents selling phone stuff as artists were there?
art and money never mix well, kind of like salad dressing, the stuff always seperates.

I'm OK with the no skateboards/dogs thing for an event like this. It's enough not to trip over the baby strollers when it's very crowded. Dog leashes can be a dangerous trip-up. It's really only because it's crowded that it is rough to handle.

I was politely corrected while I was there. This is now called the "Atlanta Arts Festival" rather than the "Piedmont Arts Festival" which went POOF several years ago. I enjoyed much of the art and found a lot more originality in many cases. No more cutesy little ceramic jars with "Memories" or "Buggers" stamped on them. That REALLY got old.
