A friend of mine and his dog were the pedestrian victims of a hit-n-run in the Candler Park area on May 12. The friend is okay. The dog has lost a leg, but is alive. We'd appreciate your help in locating this vehicle's owners. My friend writes:
Brightly colored Purple 2 seater pickup truck. It is going to be slightly lowered with chrome bumpers and dark tint. The license plate of the truck was behind the dark glass in the window. It may or may not have mirror damage on the right side. Small two seater.no backseat. There was no rear side windows in the cab. The driver and passenger seat were against the rear glass.
My gut feeling is that it is a domestic, maybe an older model Ford Ranger or a chevy s10 - probably from 1986 - 1993. But after looking at the pictures of older pickups it could also be a B-series Mazda. The reason I think this is that usually Ford or Chevy owners would show off their car's heritage with a logo on the back of the truck's tailgate and I dont recall seeing one. It had a large rear chrome bumper - probably very expensive as the license plate was not attached. The guy would have needed to drill holes into the chrome and probably did not want to do this.
The pick up was heading Southbound on South Candler at almost exactly 5:40pm on May 12th. The accident was 1 block south of Candler and College.
I remember the tail lights being small - almost like they were confined to the narrow back area of the truck on either side of the tailgate.
It had a custom color purple - royal purple but not too dark.

Thu, December 17, 2009 - 4:29 AMSoory nto hear of this Mickey. I live on Euclid off L5P @ the Park ( Springvale). People fly down this road in spite of the pedestrians, runners, dog-walkers, and kids. Cars are often hit here and the driver splits. Our house has lost 3 vehicles to hit and run.
It's nothing but a miracle that no humans or their companions have been harmed in my experience here.
There is no excuse for being inattentive when your driving a car. But it happens everyday.
I hope they find your perp and stick it good. -
