making me own hoop

I love making toys, clothes, etc and I really want to make my own hoop. Nothing against the awesome Superhoopers. I bought one for my wife and we both love it (Im sure I'll be saving for one of their LED/fire hoops one day) but I've got that DIY bug. There's something so yummy and connected with having made things myself.

Im having problems finding the right tubing though. Ive tried a couple of hardware stores near me but they don't have it. I even tried calling a landscape company or two to see if they had scraps, but no luck.

Does anyone know where I can find 11 to 13 feet of the black 160 psi polyethelyne here in the ATL area? Im up in Marietta.

Any hoopers out near Covington?

I've been attempting to hoop now for a while, but not getting very far. I'm trying to see if there are any hoopers near by that I could learn things from. I'm east of Atlanta, and wanted to get to Chandler Park, but I just cannot make the treck, the traffic and I do not agree with each other. Makes me wish I started hooping before I moved away from Vinings!

Brooklyn hooper looking for people to play with this Thanksgiving season!

Hey all you Georgia peaches!

I'm Tash from Brooklyn and it's finest hoop troupe (The Gyronauts). Visiting my parents who live in Hiram, GA (sp?) apparently it's near Dougllisville. And I am getting sick and tired of psi hooping all by my lonely self in their living room with my Itunes visualizer projected on the TV screen.

Let's play! I leave town next Sunday. Are there any hoop/poi/fire/drum/burner/whatever gatherings around? And if not, wanna have one? I want to learn from your southern flare! I heard Little Five Points is "hip." Any place to spin there? I was considering bringing a boom box and street performing there one evening. Would that be a totally stupid idea?

Let's play!

Hoop tape in Atlanta?

Hi all! I recently got into hooping at Transformus, and have constructed a hoop...but I need to make it purdy! Anyone know of places in Atlanta to get hoop tape? I know Michael's has "funky tape" but it's ridiculously overpriced and too thin.. Any thoughts? I'm leaving to road trip it out to Burning Man in a week so I may be able to order it, but easier to pick it up somewhere.

Thanks guys!

888 World Hoop Day... lets go!

Hey, World Hoop Day 8-8-8 is *this* Friday, coincidentally coinciding with the Opening Ceremonies of the 2008 Summer Olympics!

Started by Annie O last year, this day has been used to donate hoops to under-served populations and to spread the wondrous joy of hooping to all!

http://www.worldhoopday.com

Who is up for playing in the park and bringing some gifting hoops? Lets start at Centennial Park and pick a meander from there. (nice Olympic tie-in too)

Acroyogis and skill toy artists welcome as well!

I am a 61 year old broad that is so excited about hooping...I tried one in Target and my granddaughter was so impressed that I could do it! I want to purchase a hoop, learn all I can and eventually teach classes of my own! I need to know what kind of hoop I should buy, the portable kind or regular, what size, and what the best DVD is for learning. I am going to try and get to ATL on a Mon. nite and catch a class too. Thanks for any help you can give.

Im a newbie to hoop. I've been spinning poi for almost 3 years now, picked up contact staff, doubles, and a dabbling of other things but have never been able to get my wife to take an interest in the spinning arts. Hula hoops she likes! So I ordered a gold and blue hoop from Superhoopers and am eagerly awaiting it (for the wife AND for me). Hopefully I'll have my wife out in the backyard playing with me...and not fighting over who gets to use the hoop. hehehe.

Now, she's familiar with basic hooping, but not I. I'll be needing some practice. What's a good regimen for getting beyond waist hooping? Or even just some tricks to get the hang of waist hooping?

Announcing Sensual Hooping Workshop Saturday June 28

There has never been a hooping class like this!
There's no doubt about it ...
Hooping can be an intensely sensual experience.

Superhooper.org and Jai Shanti Yoga invite you into a safe,
creative space designed to help you experience how "flow
hooping" can open up your pelvis, give expression to your
desires, and deepen your connection to the way your body moves.

In this 2 hour workshop, we will set "technique" aside to coax out
the fluid groove your body is dying to unleash inside the hoop.

WHO: Women Only, 18 and up, who are comfortable waist-hooping.

WHAT TO WEAR: Something comfortable that makes you feel
wonderful, sassy, and confident.

Pre-Registration: $40. Class will be capped at 12 participants.
Click here to register: http://superhooper.org/sexyhooping.html

Bring your own hoop, borrow one of ours or order at http://superhooper.org

Hey Atlanta Hoopers! Greetings from Kentucky... I've finally talked a good friend I have in Atlanta to get a hoop. Just wondering if there is anywhere/one locally that sells them? I was going to get her one here and ship to her, but thought if anywhere had them it may be easier for her to just pick one up. I'm in Atlanta every few months, so I'm anxious to get her started now so we can jam together during my next trip! Please let me know if you have any ideas!

Hoopy hugs,

Atlanta Santa Con Dec 15

Santa just hit me up and sent me this, just wanted to pass it on...

That's right kids, it's that time again. SantaCon is coming!!! I've seen the pics from the last few years and have to say, Yall do it right!!!! Just to remind everyone, I have listed the rules for SantaCon again. There is no Santa in charge to call. If you can't show up for the start, get the phone number of someone who can help you catch up later.

1. AGAIN! Santa does not make children cry. Really - If you see kids, give them nice toys, candy, or something pleasant. Parents and Tourists are a different matter altogether -- adjust based on their attitude.
2. Santa dresses for all occasions. It's December. Smart Santas wear mutliple costume layers. Dress to maximize merriment whether singing christmas carols in the snow, or swinging from a stripper pole.
3. Santa doesn't whine! We will be outside alot and commuting mainly on foot -- bring enough "snacks" to keep your pie-hole filled until we get indoors.
4. Bring gifts -- NAUGHTY gifts to give grown ups; NICE stuff to give kids. Throwing coal at people is discouraged no matter who they are. YES THAT INCLUDES POLITICIANS
5. Watching Santa get drunk and obnoxious is fun. Babysitting Santa while they vomit in an alley is not. Don't be that Santa.
6. Pay for your Beer and tip the bar staff, we want to be able to this again. Bribery gets you everywhere! Also pay for your beer or drink as soon as you get it. Other Santas get tired of waiting on Santas to clear their tab before being able to move on.
7. No Santas left behind. Don't go leaving one or two Santas in the process. Santa dont like that. Pick a few people you know and keep an eye out for them when it's time to move to the next location. If you don't see them, speak up so everyone waits. Every Santa should have at least 2-3 other Santas they look out for and that look out for them. We don't want to leave someone in the shitter and have them wandering around looking for us. Santa is safer in numbers. What one Santa couldnt get away with without getting questioned, 50 can. Stick together Santas!
8. Memorize these answers to important questions that may arise:
* Who's in charge? "Santa"
* What organization are you with? "Santa"
* What are you protesting? "Nothing, Santa's having a party" (note: WE ARE NOT PROTESTERS!! We'd need a permit for that - and something serious to complain about...)
* How did you get here? "A sleigh and eight tiny reindeer"
* Where are you going next? "I'm only allowed to tell you if you wear this hat and buy me a beer."
9. Dress the hell up! You don't have to dress as Santa proper. That's BORING! Variations of Santa-ness are deeply appreciated, both by those we bring joy to - as well as the other Santarchists! Variants of elves or reindeer or what-have-you are fine as well!
10. "No blows below the belt. Keep it clean."
11. Please realize that this indeed is an event to have a hell of a lot of fun, and of course, with the assistance of liquor. It's not, however, an event to get shit-faced to the point that Santas end up insulting, fighting, degrading, or being assholes to people that run the places that we visit - or to the regular patrons that are there. Remember, we're LUCKY that they let THIS many jackasses into their places of business - and we'd like to keep coming back. Also, there is no "bail fund" for incarcerated Santii - so you'll be on your own with that, suckahs.
12. Santas that drink should make sure that they are also Santas that can drive home, or make arrangements so that they don't need to. This is a no-brainer, but alas, I feel it needs to be said. I don't want any casualties. We need as many soldiers for "return tours", so to speak. With mass transit being what it is in Atlanta, we suggest bringing a designated driver and of course carpooling as much as possible. The more Santii in each vehicle, the fewer individuals need to remain dry.

Santa Do's and Dont's DO address every Santa as Santa, in the first, second, and third person, singular and plural.

* DO have something ready to hand out, even if it's just candy canes.
* DO many thorough soaks of your cleaning product containers before storing liquor in them. (If you haven't already done so, it may be too late to start now.) Santa's that want should bring flasks cleverly disguised as pine-sol or windex bottles.
* DO be ready for new adventure at a moment's notice. Santa is like a shark, and must keep moving in order to thrive.
* DO uphold the hallowed tradition of Never Washing the Suit.
* Let us not forget the sacred "four fucks":
o DON'T Fuck with Kids. I'm serious; this is supposed to be fun. Holidays are unpleasant enough for kids these days. If we can't brighten it at least we can be one less worry for them. If you see kids, give them nice toys, candy, or something pleasant. Feel free to hassle their parents though. Remember: The kids of today are the weirdos of tomorrow.
o DON'T Fuck with Security. If they ask you to leave a store, get the hell out and be nice about it, or other Santa's will take shit for it. Besides, they might call the cops and then we have to deal with the next fuck….
o DON'T Fuck with Cops. If the cops tell you to do something, DO IT. If you want to get busted, do it when you and I aren't dressed the same.
o DON'T Fuck with Santa and don't fuck with me or I'll puke on your suit, you damned impostor.
* DON'T quote a web address!
* DON'T point out someone!
* DON'T give out a name (except Santa!)
* DON'T supply an e-mail address!
* DON'T hand out a phone number!

I'm sure this will be updated again, so keep checking back and Santa will post more about this event as it gets closer.

Merry Fucking Christmas! And always remember Santa says, "Spread your Red!!!"

Santa

FINAL PLANS FOR WORLD HOOP DAY

World Hoop Day is upon us -- Help Atlanta Celebrate by joining us next weekend! Here's the details:

Where: Piedmont Park - On the meadow near Park Tavern
Enter at the Charles Allen Gate off 10th St.
Park anywhere you can -- numbered streets are your best bet

When: We're starting at 5 p.m. sharp to beat the heat of the day AND to catch the sunset over the skyline. Come anytime -- we'll be there
until at least 9 p.m.

Why: World Hoop Day has been in the works for over a year. Organized by Hoopin Annie and Stefan in New York, this first annual event is
designed as an opportunity for hoopers across the world to gather in celebration of the joy of hooping AND to spread the love! This
event is free, free, free.

What to Bring: YOU
YOUR HOOP(S) to use, share, or gift to others
YOUR FRIENDS!
WATER

WE NEED DRUMS: An essential part of making this event a success will be music! Because amplified music is prohibited in
Piedmont Park, we need DRUMS to give us a beat! If you drum, or no someone who drums, please invite
them and add them to this list.

CONTACT: Lara at admin@superhooper.org with any questions or to be added to the evite invitation for this event.

Glad to see everyone here, at our spectacular new atlanta area hoopers tribe!!!!

Its high time this tribe came into existence because, while theres a good few of us around here theres no core orginization to getting everyone together. Now there is. hopefully we can utilize this tribe for discussion of events, gatherings, or whatever else we feel the need to talk about.
