I am taking a survey to see if members of this Tribe would be interested in participating in a project involving photography, and possible royalties from sales, of people creatively half-dressed. In other words, the creative use of clothing, accessories (jewelry, beads, scarves, cropped t-shirts), or otherwise modified garments to depict a "half-dressed is better than fully dressed" philosophy (for times when *something* must be worn).
There seems to be a fine line in "high fashion" and on the streets of some cities, weather permitting, as to how revealing a garment can be. Nudists would still believe that any covering is too much, but in our civilized urban environments how daring a person cares to be is somewhat up to them. Certainly I am not referring to clothing as is needed for practical purposes, but rather to clothing as it is worn to "entertain" or titillate the wearer or catch the eye of a passing guy or gal. And, we have all read stories about children, teens and you adults wearing "conservative" clothing out of the house and changing into something more daring once outside their "home" neighborhood.
What sort of garment WOULD you wear if it were legal? To a store, the mall or even a movie? If you would not be ticketed for a public indecency or harassed in the least, but could truly just enjoy being yourself and shopping, browsing bookshelves, buying coffee or even exercising (jogging/running) if society's guidelines permitted? I would venture to guess there are some that would wear fetishwear with chains, leather and hooks/clips, but what I am thinking of is more imaginative - or more conservative - along the lines of stylish vests, blue jeans with intentionally revealing holes, micro-kini tops under sheer blouses and artistically inspired lace costumes with hot-glue accented jewel creations.
No offense to the fetish enthusiasts in the audience; this is simply a separate project.
Next, would you attend an art show requiring live models, audience participation or be willing to be photographed with your most creative "Overdressed Nudist" outfit?
This is my first posting on the idea, and would appreciate feedback or input either through this Tribe, private messaging or via my MySpace page (centauri4).

Re: Project idea - Next to Naked
Sun, December 9, 2007 - 12:28 PMI would enjoy wearing provacative body paint instead of clothing, weather permitting.
Also, we've had to don loin clothes at our favorite nudie beach to be "legal", & some of them are quite ingenious, as well as aesthectically appealling.

Possibly, depends on where?

Re: Project idea - Next to Naked
Sat, January 12, 2008 - 3:26 PMInteresting idea -- but I'm wondering about what the limitations would be. Many places post signs saying "No Shirt, No Shoes, No Service", and certain community laws make it a crime to merely expose genetalia or (ifor women) breasts. Given these roadblocks, what's left? A covering of any kind could include "see through" materials, but the idea of wearing even a minimal covering of Saran Wrap or transparent plastic on a hot day just makes me cringe... However, the suggestions you give seem fine to me -- and I add a vote for body paint as well.
Would I attend such a showing? Derfinitely, if it was close enough to make it financially possible. (Fixed income is such a B****!) And again given the mentioned limitation, I'd agree to be photographed as well, or participate in other ways. -

Re: Project idea - Next to Naked
Tue, January 15, 2008 - 8:42 AMIf societies guidelines permitted I'd wear Hiking Boots and a "Cock Pouch" Its like a really abbreviated G String for Men and NOTHING else when out shopping ,socialising around town etc. And I'd wear Sandals and No garment at ALL like I do currently, when hiking woods in good weather or when at ponds/lakes with my Dogs. -

Re: Project idea - Next to Naked
Tue, January 15, 2008 - 6:01 PMJake, I think I have heard another name for the garment you describe and it is "Le Cache Sex" (a name derived from the French).
The "No Shirt, No Shoes, No Service" rule Robert cited would pose a roadblock in the case of "posing briefs" and hiking boots you outline, unless the location is somewhat less urban (the countryside, woods, hiking trails or other off-roads areas). I would go so far as to wear something really minimal at a county fair, 'heritage days' street fair or other art-oriented gathering.
I have posted earlier (elsewhere) the idea of wearing only a poncho as a principal garment and this would work well with your hiking boots combination. Think of the young Luke Skywalker in the first (Episode IV) Star Wars movie as he is pictured standing on the sands of Tattooine (sp?) - he had boots, legging-style trousers of some sort and a poncho / poncho-style loose fitting top. Something loose fitting that simply tied closed at the side to prevent the accidental revealation of one's complete nudity beneath might be acceptable in ANY setting (especially if it was clearly a garment made of nice or good quality material).
Thanks for everyone's participation in this thread. The discussion of such ideas always moves them forward and helps to clarify the concepts in the imagination of any casual (non-participating) readers that happen by.
I would love to see a wider variety of acceptable dress options for men, especially in hot weather, and am willing to put myself out there are a participant and exemplar (sp? - again) for other people to see. At a shopping mall someone might see a person dressed like Luke Skywalker and wonder where the costume party is, but that would be cool! Certainly I cannot imagine mall security wondering if a person dressed in a poncho might be up to stealing something and using the garment to conceal their theft. So what would a person do if questioned along these lines? Reply with, "What, are you kidding me?" (let's step to the side and I will have no problem allowing you to see what I am wearing / concealing officer, Sir.)

Re: Project idea - Next to Naked
Fri, April 11, 2008 - 8:14 PMThe only "alternative male garment" to come on the market in the last 100 years has been the "Utilikilt" a Utility-style KILT that wraps around a Man's hips and can be worn legally in all fifty States.
I have three different Utilikilts a Black Denim,a Cotton'Poly blend Standard Uk,and a "Survivor" Uk(when they still made them) out of a "Nanotec" VERY durable and washable fabric.
Of course underwear is NOT required under these Kilts and I don't wear Undies anyway.
These Kilts are the first real "freedom from trousers" for a Man and are exceddingly COMFORTABLE! If a Man can't be Nude then why not wear a "Man's Skirt" wich is what these garments essentially are. jamming a Man's "Junk" into the inseams of trousers is the MOST discomfort a Man can get out of his clothing,With Uk's there is none such discomfort. Ask any Woman who has "gone commando" under her Skirt! -

Re: Project idea - Next to Naked
Sun, April 20, 2008 - 3:51 PMI've been waiting to get at least one Utilikilt myself! When I do I will be wearing it every chance I get!
I'd even wear it to work if I didn't "Need" to wear jeans for protection.
I can't wait!!!!

Re: Project idea - Next to Naked
Tue, January 15, 2008 - 5:47 PMRobert, you have grasped the essential parts of this idea perfectly!
Regarding "shirts" the idea would be how small of a shirt? How see-thru? What fine material could one be made out of that would look good and be minimal enough to avoid someone being harassed? I am not a designer but I have seen a few examples of clothes on fashion runways that evoke a 'threre's no way that could be worn in public' reaction, but what if I am wrong! What if I (we) simply haven't travelled to the place where people wear the trendiest clothing?
New York city? Hollywood? Las Vegas?
Saran Wrap might not pass as clothing in a few places, but what about these "paper (disposable) clothes" I have heard rumors of? And there is also a group of people devoted to fabricating garments from duct tape. Have you seen this?

Re: Project idea - Next to Naked
Sun, April 20, 2008 - 6:28 PMI often wear just a minimal breach clout and moccasins when on the ranch. My breach clouts include those made from linen, approximately 6 - 8 inches wide and leather, approximately the same width, and variable length, anywhere from 27 - 36 inches long. I occasionally wear my leather leggings with them if they're needed for protection from bushes, etc. I rarely wear anything but breach clout and leggings to ride my horses. I've found that combination much, much more comfortable than jeans.

Re: Project idea - Next to Naked
Sun, April 20, 2008 - 6:31 PMI definitely would participate in an art gathering as a model. I've been drawn and photographed nude thousands of times, as I've been a nude model for 30+ years, so what's a few more photos. ;o)
I also own a kilt, which I wear regularly. It's a classic kilt, and is very comfortable.

Re: Project idea - Next to Naked
Sun, April 27, 2008 - 12:18 AMI suppose I’m never naked. I’ve always got my tattoos and my jewellery. I never take my jewellery out and my tattoos don’t come off, if ink is considered body covering. I’ve seen some amazing body painting on people. A comic down here Elle McFeast used tho wear nothing from the waist up but a football jersey painted on her when she used to do the sports report on an old TV show called The Money or The Gun. It took a second to realise she wasn’t wearing an incredibly tight form fitting jersey but it was paint as she interviewed a footie star. It really distracted the poor bloke she was interviewing. I have lived in the tropics in the past where it was sociably to wear nothing but a sarong which was great. My problem has always been when I’ve found myself social parties etc where it is permissible to be nude is where to carry my wallet. -

a Couple of alternatives while Naked as to "where" to carry a wallet are:
a Leather lace around the neck with a small Leather pouch containing wallet and keys or a SMALL "fanny pack".
Of course when I Bicycle Naked,I carry a small backpack attached to the back of my seat frame on my Recumbent Rocket, the seat frame is VERY convenient for this!
It's tough to find carry places when one is wearing only their skin! -

Thu, May 15, 2008 - 5:08 PMNakedville, U.S.A.?
With all the stupid ordinances *Okay, there are some good ones that protect the kids*, how does one have the ability to be naked all over the place. I'm envious on this one Jake. Think I need to go find a forest, with a lake, far from the public view. *sigh*
Betcha....
.....not many clothes get worn at home though, lol.
