Woohoo, I'm a new convert!
I am really keen to make my own hoop(s). Do you know where I can buy the materials i.e. irrigation pipe etc in or around Sydney? How about the pretty coloured tape for decoration?
I have got the instructions from www.hooping.org which is a great resource, and am wondering if I have to send away to the States for the cool tapes they have - glitter ones!
Anyone in Sydney want to meet up for a wiggle in a hoop?

Re: material for making hoops
Wed, October 11, 2006 - 5:46 AMjudith, whatever is comfy for you is good. just make it so when the piping is in a circle it is roughly belly button height, maybe an inch over.
as for piping, you can get it at any bunnings. ask for bluestripe irrigation tubing or 'poly-pipe' they stock two widths of tubing, i find the larger one to be vastly easier to hoop with. it also makes your hoop heavier which means less effort in hooping and it hoops slower, is more easily controlled etc.
they also stock basic tapes but for all the fancy ones youll need to get them offline. they basically have electrical tape and the thick thick gaffers tape, which is a bit hard to work with with a surface as small as a hoop.
hope that helps. -

Re: material for making hoops
Tue, May 29, 2007 - 4:26 PMYeah i have had a pretty hard look in most of the general hardware stores in my area and have never been lucky enough to find any clear tubing that is stiff enough. Im going to go and look in some plastic stores in the industrial area soon though. Will let you know if i find some thing cool. -

Thu, July 5, 2007 - 1:01 AMnope....i have given up for now.... :( i rang around a few places one of which said they would make it for me but it would be cheaper to import unfortunately.....
i thought about making a normal hoop and attaching the components solidly to it...then covering it all in that flexy clear stuff....coudl work not sure how well tho...and you could still put a switch on the outside....
sorry i couldnt be of any help, it is shameful there is no where to buy it....ahh well
happy hooping

Re: material for making hoops
Tue, July 3, 2007 - 8:59 AMJust pointing out that blue stripe poly piping comes in more than two widths - check that you can find joiners for the pipe and if choosing a thicker guaged pipe check that it is flexible enough to make a hoop in the size you want (-:
