Found these guys strolling along Merri Creek yesterday...
www.humanpowered.com.au
aside from service, they also fix up bikes to give to Asylum Seekers... got to promote that!
Just near the Golden Topped Church/Mosque along Merri Creek (sorry Im not sure what religion those beautiful golden Towers belong to - but they would have to be one of my favourite things in Melbourne)

Re: Human Powered Cycles
Wed, May 14, 2008 - 3:00 AMSounds like the Russian Orthodox Church on the corner of Harrison and Albion (Mels 30 B6) .. I am gonna wander in there one day - it is a beautiful building ... I used to think it was a Mosque but only just found it was not on checking the Melways then..
Oh - and bikes are good ! And too many people throw good ones away to get a newer one.. -

Re: Human Powered Cycles
Wed, May 14, 2008 - 4:24 AMYes I thought it was Russian Orthodox! Everyone kept telling me it was a Mosque but I didnt think that it was. Not the right design
Another good bike thing I saw on the way home the other night was obviously a business, but they had set up on the side of the bike path with a sign saying "lube stop' and they were giving out free chain lube. What a clever idea. I reckon there will be more businesses pop up beside bath paths.. there are so many people riding to work these days. I ride down Canning street in Carlton and there is a whole merry trail of us. At night its ace coz its such a long straight road, with almost no cars.. and all the little flickering lights make it a magical trail..

Fri, May 30, 2008 - 4:34 AMTransport related..
Looking like one of those space caskets from Star Trek, the single-seat racer you see to the left, constructed by a team from the French technical school St. Joseph La Joliverie and dubbed the Microjoule, traveled an amazing 7,148 miles on a single gallon of fuel (in other words, almost ten miles per teaspoon). Fri, May 30, 2008 - 8:08 PMwow that is amazing!!!!!
I just dont understand why this technology hasnt filtered through to the mainstream transport systems!!! I mean I have my suspicions as to why, but surely its time to give up on the old oil dependant lifestyle and economy!
I think its coming soon. With these oil prices, its just going to force people to adjust their lifestyles. Its a shame people cant do it before then, but hey if this is what it takes so be it I say.
I still keep having visions of Mad Max.
