My favorite was Kami & Fox's duet and I also really liked Mardi's performances. The Dusty ones didn't seem to fit in well with the other dancers. I wish they would have given Fox one or both of her solos.
-
I think the weakest links on this DVD are Dusty and I'm sorry, Urban Tribal. Maybe they're so "urban" that I don't understand it...? Have to confess that I skipped their second performance when I was watching this DVD. I have seen better performances from them though so maybe it was just this one time...dunno. Maybe it's not my preferred style of dance.
And Dusty then...she has some cool moves but when the entire performance is "robo" style I personally think it's too much. No my cup of tea...
Otherwise the DVD is really great, just wish I had more time to enjoy it. -
-
Well at first I liked Dusty, but yeah it's like you say, one dance like robocop is enough...
But she has cool moves which I'd like to learn.
I really love Sharon Kihara and I live the kitty song, it just fits her. She's very beautifull.
Also Kami and Samantha where WOEHOE!!! Very good!
I like Zoe too, but sometimes she gives me te creeps when she pauzes like that or when she turns around so fast! If I would do that I would smake to the ground...
Urban tribal I don't like, it's so not interesting... -
-
I don't have this dvd (yet) !!!! you're making me curious!!!!!!

I enjoyed watching Mardi and Moria ,because i hadn't seen them do solo work so far.
My faves are Rachel and Zoe. Rachel for her amazing technical stuff and Zoe for her "zoeisms", she's been watching animal planet!
But I kinda feel that this dvd doesn't show the best of the girls, i've seen Kami and Sharon do better performances.

Zoe!!!
10/12ZOEEEEEEEEEEEEE. She's my big time favourite. I love her borderline gothic look, and her mischievous face when she's dancing. She's both talented and very beautiful. And the style is really unique.
Rachel's drum solo is also marvellous. And the first dance she does, look at her arms! They are like floating, weightless... Geeeezzzzzzzz that woman knows how to move.
Then I also fell for Morias dance to pipes and drums. She's got some real power in her appearance. Why hadn't I heard of her before? Does anyone know any other DVD or clips with Moria?
And Sharon Kiharas second piece... Marvellous.
I think the Urban Tribal dance is good dancing, but it's not really "tribal fusion" to me. More modern dance art. Very elegant, cool and beautyful, but tribal? Not sure about that.
Ahhh, now I have to go and watch it again. The DVD I mean.

Re: Zoe!!!
10/12Hey guys,
just wanna mention that the editing is a mess....some of our performaces are 3 or 4 seconds off from the music...rather frustrating being a dancer and not feeling properly represented by the final product... -
-
Re: Zoe!!!
10/12has anyone looked at all the different options of the performances? I always watch the one where you can see them up close rather then farther away. I liked the indigo's performances I heard a rumor that Michelle Campbell was going to do a solo I was sad that she wasn't in it. There should be an Indigo performance dvd, that would be awesome! -
-
Re: Zoe!!!
10/15I think there's a huge difference between the 2 options. It's like you almost miss half of the performance if you just look at the editor's cut. If they're only showing the upper part of the dancer I at least want to know what the hips and feet are doing and vice versa. I first watched the editor's version and thought it was good but then a few days later I watched the dancer's cut and I was like WOW WOW WOW!!! -
-
Re: Zoe!!!
10/15Armmmm...I did't even toticed that there are some options....I gonna get a look :-O

Re: Zoe!!!
10/13You'd think that with modern day technology, something like that shouldn't be too hard to avoid. >.>
Don't worry though, people are long happy to own a DVD with a collection of of their favourite dancers anyway so those 3 or 4 seconds are easy to ignore. It doesn't ruin your credibility as an artist.
-
Re: Zoe!!!
10/14Noticed that. But still, Zoe, you were marvellous on the DVD. The look, the outfit, the choreography... When are you coming to Sweden to teach us all those moves? *hint* -

Re: Zoe!!!
10/15I really enjoyed the diversity on this DVD. I thought that everyone brought something unique to the table and everyone was riveting to watch! I keep hearing compaints that all tribal dancers start looking the the same, dancing similarly, etc... So isn't it refreshing to have different styles of performances on this DVD? Were those of you that weren't sure how you felt about Dusty or Urban Tribal's performance disappointed because you had an expectation of more traditional tribal bellydance and their performances were just a little "too" outside of the box? I'm all for more interpretation of the "fusion" in tribal fusion bellydance!
Viva le differance! -

Re: Zoe!!!
10/15At first I did not had a reason to react on this post, because i did't see the dvd (yet.)
But I think the funny thing is that I saw a topic (very recently) on The Indigo tribe page, that comments/critick should not be hurtfull , but words like; 'one dance like robocop is enough' or 'dusty should not been on the dvd' i think thats pretty hurtfull....if I was the one people would say about ; 'should not been on the dvd' i would not experience that as uplifting critick but hurtfull. ( in my experience ) -

Re: Zoe!!!
10/15I agree with you Rosita. Remember guys that the dancers themselves also read these posts... -

Re: Zoe!!!
10/16I was holding my breath through the discussion. I feel pretty a shame :-/ to have expressed my opinion so thoughtless :-(
I agree that we should be constructive about the critic.
So I apologize if I have insulted Dusty

Re: Zoe!!!
10/16I think everybody has the right to express their opinions and their feelings. Not in a hurtful way though. Let's face the fact though...it is very hard to always please everybody. People simply have different tastes. The comments about Dusty are NOT about her personality or her looks or her dance skills or about anything else than her dance STYLE. I personally prefer soft fluidy movements and if by saying this here "publicly" in tribe is hurtful for Dusty or for somebody else I sincerely apologise. -

Re: Zoe!!!
10/16This has actually nothing to do with the current conversation here but I wanted to remind everybody that sometimes misunderstandings can happen simply because some/most of us for example in this particular tribe are NOT native English speakers. So sometimes what you say or how you say it appears to be more severe than what you actually wanted to say. -
-
Re: Zoe!!!
10/16Enni, you're right about the NOT -native English spreaking (that would be me...)
For me its somtimes difficult to find the right word to explain my thoughts too. -
-
Re: Zoe!!!
10/19But also....how hurtful a comment can be is dependent upon the individual. Some people dislike any criticism no matter how it is phrased, others are more pragmatic & accept that you can't please everyone. Constructive criticism is a useful tool to assess your own performance. I think people are entitled to an opinion, as long as it does not cross the line into a personal attack. If you're putting a performance out there, you have to accept that people will voice their opinions on it . -
-
This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: Zoe!!!
10/22It is difficult expressing yourself in english, but i guess, english or no english..i was a bit rude...

I'm a drummer reading this dancers tribe, but I'm also a performer (I also "perform" in my job as a lawyer, and some of it has an "art to it", so this applies there, too.)
If there's something that I do that someone feels strongly enough to wince, I wish they'd tell me instead of wincing. Or worse, avoiding me. It's not that I like the criticism, but I sure can't get any better if I don't know what I'm putting out there, sometimes. And, the stale energy of not voicing what's bothering you just really makes things sticky.
I guess people don't know how I'll react, because I do have a strong passionate personality. But I really don't take that stuff personally, and I listen to everyone's opinion, even if I disagree. I do tend to take silence personally when I can feel there's something to be said. Say it, and let it go, and agree to disagree, sometimes. And, sometimes you have to explain, everyonce in a while.
A lot of times, men are just supposta "know" some things, too. And, we are just like you, we don't always.
It's better to get it out there, try to be civil, recognize that everyone has their opinions and preferences, and sometimes, there's something that someone will bring up that we'd really like to improve on and a hint is helpful.
666 and others here are to be admired for expressing their opinions, and at the same time being mindful of how they were perceived and voicing that, too. -

I agree with you, Todd!
Some people have already been asked to leave this tribe, not for freedom of expression but for 'my' tribe for it. It ends up damaging my name. Thought we had already deleted some 'disrespectfull"posts but i see we need to remove more.
Dancing is a vunerable art, no need to hurt each other!!
thanks Todd!!
