A little boy, that i have known ever since he was a little baby, has been diagnosed with leukemia.
His mom and dad were told on New Year’s Day. He’s going to be 7 years old in February and he already had his first chemo therapy a couple of days ago.

He was front-row when i performed at Oriental Magic last year. He loved every minute of it and he kept asking questions about all the jewelry i was wearing. He is so cute!

What a way to start 2008.
It’s just not fair...

  • So sorry to hear about your little friend.

One of my sister's friends found out right before Christmas that her 5 year old daughter has leukemia. You know, I think it is quite possible to hold a dance fundraiser to help your friend's family with expenses. I attended a spaghetti dinner fundraiser for Skye this past weekend.

You could use the dance he loves to help him.

    Much love,

    Swan

  • Oh how heartbreaking! I agree with doing a fundraiser. It would be an awesome way to help his family, but also just seeing how people can pull together is very uplifting and healing. I'll keep him in my prayers.
    • Kids so young, their whole life still to go...and such a terrible disaese, no it is not fair at all. My thoughts are with them and their parents!

A fundraiser is a good idea, not only for this two kids, but also for kids with leukemia in general. Why not two fundraisers or even more? Maybe a beautifull goal for some to realize at World Bellydanceday at mai 10, 2008?
      • That is a horrible way to start the New Year. I know that many children recover fully from this disease, I have even known a few, so I will keep him and his family in my thoughts and prayers.
        • Hi Everybody,
Thank you for your kind words and great ideas!
Here in Holland families’ usually have a good healthcare-insurance.
They rely more on thinks like cancer-research company's. 'Make a wish’ foundation is also some thing
that would be great for them.
For now i'm donating money i make from bellydance gigs and try to support them personally.
And maybe i can do a a special-event for them in the future.

As for Sanjoni (that's his name) , he is undergoing treatments and doing quite well under the circumstances.
  • Hallo Swan (and Aveyanda) please, keep us updated about those childeren?
    • The little girl I mentioned, Skye is not doing so well. The Chemo treatments made her Nauseous. She doesn't want to eat and has lost too much weight. However, it is good that the doctors started her chemotherapy. I'm hoping that she will recover and will have a full and long life filled with happiness and love.

Kee, thanks for asking about her. Her illness just breaks my heart. Thus far, we've had a spaghetti dinner and are now selling candles to raise money for her family. Her parents do not have health insurance and this is quite a burden.

      With Love,

      Swan
  • Oh that is just awful. :( I hope the treatment goes well.
    • Sanjoni just got his official diagnosis. He needs a Bone marrow transplant before he gets any chemo or other treatments.
He has a 85 % to find a good donor. The little boy has Colombian/Dutch blood so they are looking for donors internationally.
      Here is a link for anyone who would like to become a donor;
      www.bonemarrow.org/index.cfm
He is doing well under the circumstances, he sure loves getting gifts ; )
I hope little Skye is doing well....
      • More power to the little ones!
        • My prayers, thoughts and angels are with Sanjoni and Skye and their families. I pray for their recovery and hope that their current journey with ill health will not be too much for their little bodies to handle, but rather will make them stronger and give them hope to fight it. Love, light & faery wishes, VMx
          • Hello Swan, Can you tell us how the little girl is doing right now?

Our little Aveyanda-fan will start his chemotherapy any day now.
His bone marrow transplant is planned for the end of this month.
Sanjoni’s mom is expecting a little baby in May and he has a two year old brother.

To help them in this time of need, Aveyanda quit her job and has become a freelance-nanny
for this family. And i’m so proud of her! She is showing us what is really important in life.

As for bellydancing; she will only be doing shows with Jeff Martin this year and
maybe some more but only Sanjoni is doing better.

Let’s all keep these kids in our prayers
            xoxo Kee
            • Kee,

I'm happy to report that Skye continued her chemo treatments and has since then went into remission! She visits her doctor regularly and we are hoping for the best.

              With Hope,

              Swan
              • Prayer is a magically healing practice. With all those that continue to give prayer for the little ones that have so much time left to live many many thanks.
It is most likely prayer and Gods will that brought Skye's good fortune... I as I am sure many others will continue to keep Skye and Sanjoni in my prayers as well as all the other young hearts with nasty diseases.
Take care... and Aveyanda... you are a fantastic young lady.

                Lisa
  • Healing vibes coming to both Sanjoni and Skye. It's so heartbreaking to hear of children having to suffer with these horrible illnesses :(

    • Unsu...

Oh Aveyanda, what a humbling experience. I'm awestruck. You are an amazing human being. I am praying to the God/dess for all involved. How may I help? Please get me information I can print in the next issue of Jarreda. I know it wilI be a very rewarding way to involve the dance community. I want to bring happiness to the little ones and raise funds for the hospitalizations. I have, myself, had similar situations with my daughter and wouldn't wish it upon anyone. So very heartwrenching...

  • prayers and hugs for the little guy and his family
    • Sanjoni had his bonemarrow-transplantation a month ago and we're still not sure how things are going.
If testresults come out ok this week ,he might be going home but that doesn't mean anything yet. All things can happen after a transplantion.
It makes my job easier if he comes home, it was great to sleep in his isolationroom and keep him company but a 7 year old-child shouldn't be 'locked'up away from his brothers and friends. Not be able to play outside and not play soccer and stuff.
He's gotten bold and even boy don't like that. He doesn't like to be photographed without a cap or bandana.
He saw his 3 week old- baby brother for the first time yesterday, that was such an emotional moment!
