My biggest fan has gotten ill...

A little boy, that i have known ever since he was a little baby, has been diagnosed with leukemia.
His mom and dad were told on New Year’s Day. He’s going to be 7 years old in February and he already had his first chemo therapy a couple of days ago.

He was front-row when i performed at Oriental Magic last year. He loved every minute of it and he kept asking questions about all the jewelry i was wearing. He is so cute!

What a way to start 2008.
It’s just not fair...

Een evenement met grote bazaar, Hennapaint, lezingen, internationale optredens, demonstraties en gratis te volgen workshops, dat wordt gecombineerd met een speciale Oosterse Wervelingen, een wervelend oriëntaals dansfestijn met open podium

Dit evenement vindt plaats in alle zalen van Het Turfschip in Etten-Leur, van 10:00 's-ochtends tot 12:00 's-avonds. De toegangsprijs, inclusief workshops en dansavond, bedraagt € 15,- per persoon, € 5,00 voor kinderen jonger dan 12 jaar.

It was my first time I saw this lady live this weekend. But it was worth waiting for!!! What a dancer. So beautiful and talented, with such honest and heartfelt emotion in her dance. Just perfect! I liked it so much I instantly checked if I could invite her to the Dark & Tribalicious festival in Gothenburg this October. And she said she's coming. Now Sweden too will get to experience this! *YAY*

Looking for a new dynamic way to keep your audience on the edge of their seats? Bring your message to the masses with this creative take on storytelling. Join Raven of TABU as she demonstrates how you can use music, movement, and emotion to tell a story. Whether you are an Egyptian Cabaret dancer, a Tribal Fusion dancer, or somewhere in between this workshop can help you explore your creative side and intrigue your audience. A short conversation about story construction, character creation, props, costumes, music, and understanding your audience will begin our journey. We will incorporate our stories into combinations and a short choreography.

This is a 2 1/2 hour workshop. It will start at 10:00am. on Saturday April 18th and will end at 12:30pm.

Zaterdag 13 juni om 14.00 middagvoorstelling en om 19.00 avondvoorstelling van Orient Express in Hengelo,NL

Een reis door de oriëntaalse danswereld van vroeger tot nu.

Deze voorstelling laat, de verschillende culturen in oriëntaalse landen en de uitingen daarvan in dans, zien. De toeschouwers worden meegenomen op een reis door de wereld van oriëntaalse dans van vroeger tot nu. De reis gaat van Afrikaanse landen, zoals Egypte tot Aziatische landen zoals Turkije, Iran (vroeger Perzië) en India. De dansen verschillen van de oude klassieke tempeldansen van India en andere Godsdienstige uitingen en de zigeunerdansen van rondtrekkende volkeren tot het moderne ATS en tribalfusion van nu. Door middel van achtergrondprojectie en vertolkingen worden de toeschouwers rondgeleid in de, voor de meesten, onbekende wereld van oriëntaalse dansen van vroeger tot nu. Orient Express wordt gedanst door bekende en minder bekende dansers. Een aantal bekende namen die op het toneel zullen verschijnen zijn: Perzische danseres Helia, oriëntaalse danser Rachid Alexander, oriëntaalse danseres Sheila, oriëntaalse danser Cihangir, Tribalgroep Nea's Tribe, Aveyanda Skye (tribal fusion), Aniel (Indiase danser) en tribalgroep TribAlways. Voor, na en in de pauze van de voorstelling is er een grote bazaar waarop allerlei oosterse dingen te verkrijgen zijn.

Op zondag 14 juni zijn er een aantal spetterende workshops die je niet mag missen:
- om 10.00 ATS (tribal) met Gabriele van Nea's Tribe
- om 11.00 Kale (traditionele Turkse dans) met Cihangir
- om 15.00 orientaalse dans (show moves en floorwork) met Rachid Alexander
- om 15.00 Bandari en klassiek Perzische dans met Helia

Tabla Drums?

I am interested in learning and acquiring a Tabla Drum set. I saw some on Craig’s list… but I am not sure how much I should pay… epically for one that needs repair and tuning. What kind of drums typically accompany modern belly dancers anyway? Should I really acquire the traditional tabla?

Anyone have advice?
Anyone selling a Tabla set?

Startschot Wereld Buikdansdag 2009

In de marge van Oriental Magic werd het startschot gegeven voor de Wereldbuikdansdag 2009 Campagne.

Aangezien de samenwerking met Stella/Sitara oa inhoudt dat het evenement beurtelings in België en Nederland wordt gehouden, zal de editie van 2009 doorgaan in Etten-Leur.
Logistieke problemen lieten ons niet toe om één en ander op de tweede zaterdag te plannen en we zagen ons genoodzaakt om het één week te vervroegen.

2 mei 2009, Het Turfschip, Etten-Leur, Nederland.
Als 'goed doel' kozen we voor de Pink Ribbon actie en we willen op die manier onze bijdrage leveren aan de strijd tegen (borst)kanker.

Hey everyone,

Maybe many of you already know this, but I found out only yesterday, and was very saddened to do so. Some time earlier this year, Enni has passed away.
Aveyanda and I met her I believe in Brussels for the first time, at Carolena's and Megha's workshop. Enni was a very sweet and endearing girl, who, as I found out yesterday, was battling leukemia for at least four years. I didn't know her very well, but for as far as I could tell, she was as powerful in fighting her disease as she was in dancing. I hope her soul has found light.

"Love you Veil" met Artemisia ( België).

Heb je nog nooit met een sluier gedanst? Probeerde je het al, maar ben je nog niet zeker of het je wel leuk vind? Of dans je integendeel al jaren en is de sluier ook jouw favoriete prop? Artemisia is in België en ver buiten de grenzen gekend voor haar magie met de zijden sluier. In deze workshop deelt ze haar aanpak, visie en... natuurlijk ook haar "trukkendoos". No secrets! Deze workshops is zowel geschikt voor de absolute beginner als voor de gevorderde danseres op zoek naar iets nieuw.
Breng liefst je eigen sluier mee (als je die hebt is een rechthoekige in zijde ideaal), voor beginners zijn er ook uitleenexemplaren voorzien.

Shimmy for a cure!

This tribe is created as an information/communication hub for the planning of the charity bellydance event in Erie PA "Shimmy for a Cure" scheduled for May 31, 2008 at the Erie Playhouse in downtown Erie. This event will benefit the John Kanzius Cancer Research Foundation. Mr. Kanzius, originally from Erie, is currently researching a promising therapy cure utilizing radiowaves to destroy cancer cells. The goal of this event is to promote awareness of this research, showcase the art of bellydance and finally, to provide a monetary contribution via the proceeds from this event! Details will be posted here as they come about.

Carolena and Megha will be teaching for 3 days, more than 13 hrs during Gathering of The Tribes event in August, 2-4.

The goal of the event is to get tribal dancers from all over the Europe together, share their love for this danceform and create new contacts. Why not just to group together, combine the yearly vacation with a great possibility to dance with Megha and Carolena in "exotic" country like Finland?

The price of the WS is 200 euro - that makes about 15 euro/hour. Or the whole package including training and accommodation for 4 nights in the beautiful environment close to lake, including breakfasts, transportation to the place where the classes are held - and back, only 470 euro. Being comparing the prices I can say it's far more cheaper than any event around this topic in Europe this year. Workshop prices are normally around 20 euro/ hour and accommodation with workshops for the 4 nights can be 769 euro this very day. Don't forget the the bonus each can reach - additional free workshop for the group of 11. Use it to reduce the price from each or to get your own for free.

Good news is that this leaves a lot of space for travelling expenses - and if you can use Ryanair you can even get your flight with the pocket money. Check their site if they have an airport close to you: www.ryanair.com

Ask also group prices from your flight company - they might give some discount as well.

Er is nog ruimte voor één workshop en natuurlijk kan men zich ook nog opgeven om deel te nemen aan de shows. Er wordt geen onderscheid gemaakt tussen beroepsmatige en niet beroepsmatige danser(s)essen. Voor deelnemende dansers zal er in de pauze tussen beiden shows in een lichte maaltijd worden voorzien. Natuurlijk is ruime kleedruimte aanwezig. Deelnemende dansers betalen geen entré, verder worden er geen vergoedingen verstrekt.

Verkondig het nieuws aan 'alle mensen van goede wil' !!

Op zaterdag 10 mei is het WERELD BUIKDANSDAG. Voor meer historische achtergrond-info kan je op mijn tribe terecht.
Laat ons het er hier op houden dat op die dag de buikdanseressen zich voor een goed doel inzetten!!

Er is een evenement in opbouw op de grens tussen Nederland en België.

De opbrengst van Wereld Buikdansdag 2008 zal ten goede komen van NEMA. Dit is een vereniging voor mensen met NEuro Musculaire Aandoeningen.
Bovendien zullen de leden van NEMA gratis van dit spektakel mogen genieten.
Het evenement zal doorgaan in ‘De Kaasboerin’, Eerselseweg 99 te Mol. Deze locatie biedt plaats aan 350 toeschouwers. De nabijheid van de Nederlandse grens (op 200 meter) onderstreept het internationale karakter van het gebeuren.
Inderdaad, het feit dat er op Belgische bodem wordt gedanst, houdt geen enkele beperking in voor wat betreft de nationaliteit van de dansers. Alle beoefenaars van de Oriëntaalse danskunst op onze planeet zijn welkom om deel te nemen.
De deuren gaan open om 14h00.
In de namiddag zal er een soort ‘voorshow’ zijn om de dag op gang te trekken. Ondertussen kunnen Oriëntaalse souks of/en workshops
bezocht worden.
Nadien volgt dan een spetterende avondshow . Gezien het enigszins beperkt aantal zitplaatsen zal dezelfde avondshow tweemaal gepresenteerd worden.
Voor de kleinsten, die aan buikdans nog geen boodschap hebben, is er een grote, afgesloten speeltuin.
De toegangskaarten kosten 10 Euro in voorverkoop en 12 Euro ter plaatse.
Kinderen hebben gratis toegang.
