Actually, I've never been to a BDSS show, and have only seen a few clips from someone's DVD. I've heard such varying reviews about them. It seems like the people who have no experience or opinions about dancing are more likely to say it's a pretty spectacular show, and the ones who don't like it tend to be offended for ethical reasons (i.e. not traditional, exploitation, appealing to the masses, or dumbing down for the masses). Then there are the experienced dancers who enjoy the show for its elements of the dance mixed with other mediums.

Kind of reminds me of a big Hollywood blockbuster movie that's based on a book. The folks who haven't read the book might find the movie really enjoyable while the ones who have read the book might be completely disgusted. Then there are the ones who have read the book and admit that the movie isn't the same, but still enjoy the movie for capturing some of the essence of the book.

Just some thoughts from a non-BDSS-watcing non-dancer. =)

THANK YOU! Couldn't have said it better. Aside from all the reasons you stated, the utter lack of diversity in the show I find a cheapo attempt to appeal to a mass US market. I have zero against any of the dancers. I take issue with the "creator" of the show. Just my humble little opinion.
