MECDA Fall Festival of Music & Dance Nov. 1

Hello Dancers,

The MECDA chapter is now taking reservations for performance spots on the festival stage. We will have ongoing entertainment from 10:30am to 5:00pm - that's a lot of dancing - come be part of it!

Soloists 5 minutes
Duet/Trio 10 minutes
Troupes 4+ 15 minutes

There will also be 7 drop-in workshops presented by instructors from throughout the state. Please check here for more info:
www.levantalsonora.com

We also need people to volunteer to help with admissions, stage managing and workshop helpers - this can be just a 1 or 2 hour stint during your day and will be greatly appreciated. It takes a LOT more than the 4 members of the MECDA chapter board to run an event like this!

To reserve a spot and/or volunteer please email president@levantalsonora.com.

Thanks,

Mahin

The time is fast approaching for Pharos LIVE! (JUST ONE WEEK AWAY!). We are stoking the embers to “light it up” as we speak, cuz this show is going to be the HOTTEST thing to hit our AZ Dance and Drum community since Jose burned his jalapeno and called it chipotle.

So follow the light on Saturday, June 14th to The Sets (93 E. Southern) in Tempe, AZ to see 7 (yes seven) LIVE music groups performing for some of the best and hottest belly dancers, African dancers, interpretive and fusion dancers in AZ and beyond!

We have (Dancers):

Amanda Rose (Belly Dancer of the Universe 2008)
Deja Dance Collective
Arizona Drum and Dance
Satori Sunrise
Of the Earth
Carrie Konyha
Lara
Mahin
Hands of Kali
Bastet
Traveler
Cosmos
Of the Earth
Soleil Noir
The White Claws
Arizona Drum and Dance

...and head-lining the show, all the way from Brooklyn, New York, RAQUY AND THE CAVEMEN!!!! (and they said it couldn’t be done... Well, we did it!).

Remember, show starts at 7:30pm (doors open 1 hour in advance). Tickets are sold up to the show time. Also remember that each ticket includes two FREE drinks ($10 savings right there). There will be a hooka bar on the patio and The Sets does serve food! There are also vendors promoting and selling there wares in our “market place”.

Don’t miss the Hands of Kali’s audience tarot reading...

Pharos LIVE: Bringing musicians and dancers together for a show by the community and for the community, bringing some of the best out of state talent to your doorstep, and portraying an ungodly amount of talent and instigating a helluva lot of fun for all.

Let Pharos draw you in. Follow the light... We hope to see you there.

Thank you for your support :)

Spammers!

OK, I don't think it is wrong for various people in our community to post ads promoting themselves or their events to and for our community.

However, and I don't know about you, but every time I log into tribe, my homepage is inundated with ads for buying or renting houses from some jack-fuck "troll" who goes by the name of "forrentorsale". We aren't talking a single post, but a MASS bombardment of info that has no bearing on our drum and dance community. In a personal sense, perhaps some of you are interested, and that's fine. However, there is a right way and a wrong way to do things.

Having zero friends, belonging to zero tribes, and having no pic or background info... you are a spammer! Promoting is fine (punches Sasha in the stomach). Asshole blatant spamming is not!

So I e-mailed this fucknut and this is what I said:

"Tribe.net is a place for people to meet and socialize and promote for the benefit of the relevant community. It is not a place for advertisers and blatant spammers like yourself to list properties for sale or rent. If I see one more goddamn fucking bullshit advo from you on my homepage, I'm going to alert the Tribe management team and request your account be revoked (and I'm sure they will agree).

Try Craig's list if you must "spam". Leave the talk boards alone. We are not interested in irrelevant ads.

Fuck you most sincerely and hatefully,

May you die a horrid death! How you like the housing market now you sick fuck twisted chicken shit BITCH! Ya know what is criminally wrong with the housing market? Mortgage companies, mortgage brokers, and banks. You've been FUCKING people with bullshit fees for 30 years. You going out of business is merely God's wrath you inhumane vampiric money sucking fucking whores!

ASSHOLE!!!!"

So that is what I sent. I await your applause as I bow...

During the Pharos LIVE show on June 14th, we have been given permission to announce our own drink specials. So what do you peeps like to drink? Submit your favs and it might be a drink special (for cheap). It's Pharos. Let's party!

Disclaimer: Pharos does not encourage or sanction, in any way, shape, or form, the notion of drinking and driving. That being said, we fully encourage getting drunk off your ass while somebody else drives. Drinking and driving do not mix. Drinking and a whole lot of other things do mix. Please be responsible...

RANT!!!

I would so love to post a Miles Copeland rant right now...

I know some of you will be like "yeah, do it do it do it... do it NOW!", but I prolly shouldn't. There would be way too much foul and offensive language, smart-ass remarks, stating of the truth in humorously offensive ways, shit talking, condemnations, filth flarn filth, and dirty dag-nastiness; all of which would barely scratch the surface of how I really feel.

But, I just don't think this site could handle it (much less the local community). Maybe if you all prod me enough I'll unleash my inner Drumopelli. But you have to get the concept of "knight in shining armor" out of yer head. This rant would be more like "Biblical Retribution"... it wouldn't be pretty. It'll be funny as hell, but it won't be nice or professional or anything like that. It will be like a slow and painful execution. It will be like drowning a rat for the sheer joy of drowning a rat.

Sasha and Colleen are probably like "do it do it do it" and will egg me on. My one sober brain cell says I shouldn't. For now, I will listen to it.

... but I can be persuaded.

I blogged about it.

I am officially on the injured list for the time being. I am going to have to have surgery on my right foot. Not a happy camper, but I know my foot will feel a whole lot better once it's all said and done. No date set yet for the procedure. I just visited my podiatrist (who is board certified in foot and ankle surgery). The guy knows what he's talking about and took his time explaining everything to me. So I won't be dancing for a while until this is all done and HEALED!!!

Anyway, I'm going to be getting creative with gym workouts in the meantime. Lots of bench work, free weights, weight machines, or anything that doesn't require walking or putting weight on the balls of my feet (stationary bike with the resistance CRANKED WAY UUUUPPPPPP and NO STANDING THIS TIME!!! Feel the quads burrrrrnnnnnn....aaaahhhhh). At least I'll have some serious muscle mass to look forward to this summer! (Silver lining anyone??) So if anyone says to me "DROP AND GIVE ME 20" I'll be able to do it!!! W00t!

Would PHX Want Me Back?

Hey, my last couple workshop weekends were very lightly attended, so i don't have any plans to work in PHX the rest of 2008.

If I came out for maybe one day or something, would anybody come?

I always love visiting and workin with y'all. And I LOVE going to Efes to listen to Gabby & the band!

What's the word? Should I visit in 2009?
What month would be best?

Need your help with an upcoming gig!

Howdy, everybody!

Here's the scoop: On Sunday, April 27 I will be one of eight acts playing app. 1/2-hour sets at THE SETS, a bar with a big performance area on the corner of Southern and Mill. Some of you are probably already familiar with it.

Tickets are $8 in advance or $10 at the door. Which is where you come in.

If you think you'd like to come see me play here, have a beer, watch some of the other acts, etc., I REALLY NEED you to buy advance tickets from me sometime between now and the show.

The way this particular gig works, we all get paid, but how MUCH we get paid depends on how many butts we get through the door from pre-sold tickets.

Those who sell the most tickets get their pick first of when they want to go on (i.e., what slot they want). Personally, I don't want to be last, but I don't want to be first, either. The first act goes on at 6:30, while everybody's still filing in and trying to figure out who they're gonna barf on if they drink too much.

However, I also realize that this is a SUNDAY, and most of you have to work in the morning (as do I) and you probably don't want to stay TOO late.

So here's my proposal: Help me sell tickets to this event by buying one or two yourself from me between now and the day of the show. I'm shooting for 30 people, but the more the merrier. IN RETURN, if I'm not stuck being the opening act anyway, I will shoot for a slot between 7 and 8:30 p.m. That way, if you want to stick around for the acts after me, you can, or you can head on home after that.

I have no idea what the other bands on the docket sound like, except for two of them that happened to have myspace sites. Neither one is awful. I do, however, think that I might be the OLDEST act there, but since I'm funny that doesn't really matter.

You can buy tickets directly from me or you can even use PayPal, to the address ttuerff@aol.com. Include your address and I'll mail the tickets to you.

I'm doing this a month in advance, because I figure some of you haven't made plans yet, and the sooner you all know about it, the more people I might actually get to show up!

Thanks! Contact me if you have any questions! Pass this info on to anybody who might be interested!

By the way, currently I have two other gigs in April: 4/5 at Fiddler's Dream (8 p.m. with two other acts opening; $3) and 4/7 at the Peoria Library Auditorium (7:00 p.m. with two other acts; free!).

Let me know if you can make it to the SETS!
In case you missed my blog, I have a new crack addiction....

It's drums. Not ME, not African, not Latin....

Rock. Yes, Rock... like in Rock n Roll.

I had a lesson today with Steve Goldstein, drummer with The Violet Wing. He was super patient with me, was very encouraging, and made it such a wonderful experience for me. It's now officially become my new crack addiction, right up there with bellydancing. Who knew??

Warning: I will likely have a set of sticks with me nearly everywhere I go.... and I plan to use them!

Thanks Steve!!!

Yes, that's right.... the one and only Jim Boz is coming back this weekend for workshops! Certification too, if you're so interested in it. Check out Naj's gobellydance.com site for registration information and class schedules. The classes are limited to only 15 students (YAY) so that we can all get individual attention. There is even a workshop for male dancers so tell everyone you know!

I hope to see you all there!

Shows will take place at a venue in the Tempe area and will have an oldey timey, circus side-show, exotic feel. Bellydancers of all disciplines are welcome from:

Traditional : Egyptian, Turkish, Orientale, Persian, etc...
Tribal: ATS, World Tribal, Fusion, Modern Fusion, and Goth Fusion
World dance: West African, Eastern Euro folk, Flamenco, Zambra, Folklorico
Circus/show dance: Little Egypt, Mata Hari, Aerialists, themed...

Enter another place and time where world fusion bellydance company, NATIUM World Dance, known for blending various world dance flavors with bellydance, hosts Bohemian Nights, A bellydance cirque. This showcase of talent takes place in 2008 at _________, in Tempe Arizona.
As audiences wander in they are greeted with sights, sounds and scents evocative of exotic destinations, worlds away, and of times forgotten. From the rich looking textiles and decorations from other countries, to the sounds of worlds coming together under one roof, audiences will feel as though traveling to mysterious, foreign lands. Wander through the mini bazaar to barter, haggle and bid on unique objects d'arte from artisans and vagabonds.

Each Bohemian Nights showcase kicks off with a free mini bellydance lesson to familiarize the audience with this art form and to incite excitement for the dance jam later. Then, Bohemian Nights becomes a two hour-long showcase of dancers, ranging from student performers showing off what they've learned in classes, to semi-professionals desirous of more exposure, to special professional dancer guest stars who will light up the night. Some performers will dance with props such as swords, Chinese fans, fire, veils, skirts and more. After each event, the dance floor opens up for all dancers, whether in the show or in the audience, to get up and take part in an open-floor bellydance soiree, into the night. Performers from the show come out to dance and migle with the audience and to do a meet and greet. The showcase becomes a party for all to participate.

These events are for 21 and over crowds only, as the venue serves liquor. Come hungry too as the menu has tasty treats from appetizers to delicious grilled burgers.

A portion of ticket sales will be donated to a charity or used to benefit a local business selected by NATIUM World Dance, with a different charity or business selected for each show. Raffle tickets sold will also benefit these select organizations, with all proceeds donated to that charity or business. Gratuities and tips are always appreciated, a portion of which may also be donated to the charity or business selected as well.

Run away with the belly-cirque!

Professional Costumes for Sale, Pretty!!!

Blue and White
Mermaid skirt with fantastic flare, the hip can expand rather large and can also be made smaller by tightening the elastic. I'm around a 36 inch waist right now but I've wore it when i was around a 34 and I'm sure it can go smaller and larger. The bra can fit a C or a D with no padding, I haven't added any in, but with padding, small C or even B would work. Ribcage could go up to a 37 at max and much smaller if needed. The length of the skirt is at like a 37, I've made it smaller but It could me lengthened a little bit or made short while keeping the beading at the bottom. Comes with single armband and headband. Costume is really pretty, I've gotten many compliments but just can't seem to make it work for myself. I have no hips so this just hasn't seemed to work for me. Needs a good home. Definitely Professional quality costume. Asking $450

Pink Ring
This is an A-line skirt, but has a slit on the left leg up to mid thigh. Bra is going to fit a C or D and with Padding small C or B. I haven't added any padding into the bra. The nice thing is that the straps can either be made into a halter or a criss cross in the front of the neck because of the length of them. The hip size can go down to a 32 or up to a 37. The elastic can be loosened or tightened. The length of a skirt is 36 1/2. Rib Cage can go up to +39 and as small as needed. Comes with two arms bands and a headband. Also a really pretty costume, sad to see it go, even my boyfriend likes this one but i need to make room for new ones. :o) asking $425

All prices are without shipping included. Personal Message me if your interested, if I don't receive offers I'll take best offers

You can find pictures of them at this website http://gallery.mac.com/idancewithmybelly#100001

on a GROOVY note?

In case you haven't heard, The Violet Wing will be performing again this January 12th at Mesa Women's Center. If you've been out to prior shows, you know it's a blast and this one will only be better than the last. If you haven't been to one, it's more fun than we should all be allowed by law!

I have the honor of being den mother to some super-hot Go Go girls so there will be plenty of eye-candy around (other than you, Dave). Some you've seen dancing here before, some you haven't. Check out The Violet Wing tribe for the lineup. As much as I love belly dancing, it's just soooooooo much fun to dance in a totally different way to music I grew up listening to. And costumes that.... well.... I can REALLY use a little imagination! Oh, and there will be a costume change for us girls!

So, I hope you all dig out your paisley prints, mini-skirts, boots, tie-dyes, peace signs and headbands and come on out! Hope to see you all there!!

Hey guys, i love pixies pictures and if you don't know about her you should. she has a tribe here called pixie vision productions and her website is www.pixievisionproductions.com

anyways, she said that should would make her way to phoenix for a weekend or so if we could get enough people. She said that once she has 10 people signed up she books a flight, so give a post up here if your interested.

i don't think anyone wouldn't want some pictures by her.

Also, though she does do belly dance a lot, her experience goes far, so very far beyond it so don't think you have to be a dancer to get her to shoot you

message me if your interested :o)

~~And now, for a public service announcement~~

I would like to inform you that someone we all know and love has had her e-mail account hijacked by some of those unscrupulous individuals in Nigeria. So, if you receive any e-mails from you-know-who asking for money to help get her out of Nigeria, please do not. I'd hate to see any of you kind-hearted folks get swindled trying to help someone claiming to be stuck in Africa.

In the meantime, you may want to tighten up your passwords to your own e-mail accounts. Make them hard to guess.... not a word that appears in the dictionary.

~~End of announcement~~

...and his ensemble.

Thanks for making Efes one my absolute all-time favorite places to dance!! Gaby is... well... what can I say that hasn't already been said hundreds of times? He's a master. And his ensemble is fab as well. Period.

OH.. and FYI....

KUDOS out to Efes.... for being voted "Best Place for Dinner and Dancing" in Phoenix by the Phoenix New Times! There's a cute little blurb about it in the "Best of..." pages in The New Times. Check out phoenixnewtimes.com and click on "Best of 2007" for more info. My only disappointment is that the musicians weren't mentioned. I dunno why... they are a huge part of the Efes experience.

A BIG LOUD ZAGAREET out to EFES and GABY and CREW!!!

******From The Phoenix New Times:

BEST DINNER AND DANCING (2007)
Efes Turkish Cuisine
Efes Turkish Cuisine [Map]
1701 E. Guadalupe Rd.
Tempe, AZ 85283

http://www.efesturkishcuisine.com

Our idea of a good night on the town does involve dinner and dancing, but we'd rather do the eating and leave the grooving to someone else. That's why we love to grab a table at Efes Turkish Cuisine on a Saturday night and enjoy the music while several of the best belly dancers in town shake it all. The menu's as authentic as the dancing, and as long as you keep stuffing your mouth, the dancers won't try to lure you onto the floor.

It's State Fair time!

I had a great time with Saliha of Ali Baba as we performed at the AZ State Fair tonight. It's one of those fun events that I look forward to all year long, when I get to hang with people I don't get to see or hang with very often.

Mara with her troup Au Noujoum performed. Can Mara possibly BE any cuter? Azita was there with 2 of her students. Azita did one of her famous Turkish drops that made the crowd go nuts! Then just Saliha and me. We all had a great time.

I wish there were more events like this. Looks like the Devonshire Ren Faire (the "little" ren faire in downtown Phoenix) is no more. There wasn't one last year and none is scheduled for this year. I can only hope.

Well, I'm tired and I have to work tomorrow. If anyone is interested, I'll be at Efes and Oasis 2.

G'night.

Boom Boom Belly-Fest is just 5 days away. Come see The White Claws in a rare performance playing for two fabulous dance troupes: Satori Sunrise and The Desert Flowers. Show starts at 7pm on Saturday, October 6th at the Mystic Jewell Studio. Beyond us, there is a huge line-up of local and national troupes performing (can you say Zafira, Unmata, and Ethnophonica?). Just $15 at the door and it will sell out very very quickly.

Boom Boom Belly-Fest... it's a monumental thing... like inventing the wheel... or ice cream... or even television. It's going to RAK!!!!

... and if that wasn't enough for ya, there is the Midnight Caravan show and Dance Extravaganza starting later on that night. Perhaps you can go see both... and you know you want to. So do it!

This Saturday is belly dance BIG in Arizona, from cabaret to tribal to fusion to drums and more drums and musicians and more musicians and workshops galore. It's gonna be sick! California, Nevada, and Texas have already filed complaints saying that Arizona has gone over the legal belly dance and drum limit. Utah filed a claim too, but like who cares about Utah anyway? Hey, we're "Zonies"... we didn't build this state with "limits" in mind. This is the Wild Wild West... we make our own damn rules!!!!

Can I get an Amen!!!

Hello Ladies,
I'm working on a research project for one of my classes. I need 3 minutes worth of video of improvisational dancing, it can be something that you've already posted on youtube or somewhere similar. No need for costumes or stage - it's movement factors I'm looking for - but I can't tell you what till after the results are counted!! ;-)

I need 15 more subjects to complete my project - data needs to be collected by Oct. 5th. If you've already contacted me from the first listing - thank you!

I will definitely be sharing the results with all participants and anyone else that's interested -)

I'm still waiting for some word about the account, so I can actually afford to do this. No word, no account, so if nothing has been done by the 15th by the previous editor, I'm un-volunteering myself.
If I had the money, I would just take it over, but I don't and frankly, don't want to find myself in th emiddle of a financial war zone.
Sorry about this, folks.. I had high hopes, and t's hard to see this crumble.
But a person can only do so much.

MECDA Picnic in Nov?? Who's in?

Hey everybody... our MECDA chapter is planning a celebration of our first year. Here's what we have in mind.....
An all day picnic at Papago Park at the ramada near the lake tentatively set for the first Sunday in Nov., including all day performances - as many as we can get - on the ampitheater stage. It's a beautiful setting and we'd like it to be a very relaxed community gathering.

The stage is about 20 x 20 but in a hexagonal shape. I think it could accomodate groups of up to 5. We'd like to the lineup to reflect the diversity of styles we have in the community and therefore want to include as many of our AZ dancers as possible.

The preliminary plans have been checked out. What we need is to know that the community is willing to come out and dance and participate. There will be no admission, but donations to defray the cost of the event will be accepted. Before we put down the money on the event and invest our time in more planning, we'd like to know that people are interested in coming out and supporting it.

In addition to dancers, we'll need some volunteers both in preparation and on the day of the event. The park has power for a sound system, but we a system to plug into it for amplified performance music. It would have been nice to include live music but the park rules don't allow live amplified music :-( - damn! I'm not sure if that excludes acoutstic instruments.

So what do you think?

OK, so I was flipping through TV channels today and I just happened to have landed on an episode of the old Star Trek series.. ya know... the REAL ones with Captain Kirk? Anyway, the opening scen? A belly dancer!! LOL!!! I do believe they were on another planet, but the dancer was pretty good! She was wearing this cutesy costume made out of what appears to be pinkish "grass" as in a man-made grass skirt. I liked it! I believe it was the episode in which Scotty is being accused of Jack-the-Ripper type murders.

Might anyone have a link to this performance to post? I think it's worth watching.

Make a Coin Costume WORKSHOP with AZITA!!

I don't have all the juicy details in front of me, but the ever-so-lovely Azita is putting on a 3-Mondays-in-a-row workshop on making your own coin costume!

Her workshop starts this coming Monday, 8/13 and continues on Monday, 8/20 and ends on Monday 8/27 (it's 3 nights to complete the workshop and finish the costume).

You need to bring a bra, some "cover" fabric, and any trims you'd like to use. She will be supplying the belt base plus all the coinage.

Please check out her website www.azitaimports.com for more details. She has a flyer there that explains it all. I think it's a GREAT DEAL as you'll not only come away with a new costume to add to your wardrobe but also the smarts to do another one on your own.

I'll be there. Hope to see you there as well!

Hey, the Sat night post show party looks like it's going to be at Efes instead of Sultan's Grill. I heard the Grill changed hands...? Can y'all fill me in on that...when I get there?

SO - FYI

And we're trying to get them to stay open late.

And...*hands on hips*...my workshops are NOT sold out?!?
Does PHX not love me no more?!? <sulk> <sob>
(Kidding)

I'm looking forward to heading out there. Getting out there tonite (wed). I'm scheduled to be in teevee Thurs, but you never know. Might be something pre-empting the big belly dancer, eh?

Thank you to everyone who came out to support Open Dance Night this past Thursday. We had a great time as usual :-)

Especially big thank you's to our featured dancers: Levana, T.C., Azula, Rukshana, Chyna Daisy (in her stage debut!), Epona, Zina and Zoraya. And of course huge kudos to White Claws with Fatimah and Jsa'ne who gave a fabulous LIVE performance of the piece from their video - and much more!

Next Open Dance dates: Sept. 6th and Oct. 11 - keep and eye on Tribe for more details.
I am already making the list for Sept 6th's performers- contact me if you'd like a spot.

Thanks again,

Thanks Mahin for putting on such a great event yesterday (the 26th). It was hella good to hang with you and watch all the fabulous dancers strut their stuff. All of them, each and every one of them, were awesome to behold. Please pass our kudos along :)

Good hooka (I got hooka de-virginized by Fatimah and Jsa'ne), good atmosphere, wonderful people, and bad air conditioning :P. Next time we'll do two sets :P

Some people left early and missed us (fools). They owe us 20 laps. Once the word gets out, they will kick themselves in the buttocks three times... sideways, but the crowd was still awesome. Thank you and Fatimah and Jsa'ne and Katara for dancin' the open spots with us. You guys Rak (God that phrase is so over-used). Fuckit! You guys "Snarf" (a new term... start using it).

You guys liked the video we just did? We basically just performed it live (dancers and drummers). Ha! Fatimah and Jsa'ne performed like goddess'... or like a stiff cup of coffee, with cream and plenty of sugar, on a cold November morning over looking the forests around Seattle, or like the feeling you get you you run butt-ass naked through the forest with a bunch of midgets pouring cool cool water all over your behind... take your pick. If none of the above made you snicker... well, you just ain't WC material. If it did, you're sick and twisted. Welcome aboard!

So that's what Tribal 5 is supposed to look like! Fatimah killed on Scorpio Blue. Not like the drunk guy who runs over the homeless person... not like the serial killer portrayed in the media... It was more than that! What she did with Scorpio Blue can only be called HALOCAUST!!! He dies, she dies, everybody dies! Then she dug up the bodies, defiled them (we won't get into the details), and poured salt upon their graves to insure that nothing would ever grow there again... ever. Fatimah gets 300 evil points. After a few more gigs, she'll only be behind me by 1, 237. But hey, she's cathing up.

But then Katara jumped in and just shredded... shredded I tell you, like a cat on Viagra, a cheap bottle of wine, and a cat that hasn't "played" with anything (for her own amusement) in ages. Oh, but then came Mahin... she went Macru/Djole crazy and tore up the floor (they're replacing it tomorrow at great expense).

This was so cool. It was the WC's first live appearance in over 8 months (studio studio studio). Next time, the "claws" will cut deeper, perhaps even fatally. We're gonna bring more drum groups to perform with us/you/them/whatever. It will be sick.

Thanks to everyone that showed up to watch and support us. To those that didn't... well, the Drumopelli is still devising your wretched punishment. It will involve chocolate, dancing, and spanking (like that is any kind of punishment to most of you... Tom... Colleen).

Way fun. Thanks!

Ps.
So TC... what exactly were you planning on doing to me?

I would like to stay at someone's house for a couple of nights in late July

Hello, All: I realized that I will need a place to stay after the Moria workshop, which will be the evening of July 22.... and also after the Kami workshop which will be the evening of Sunday, the 29th. On both mornings I will leave and come back up north early. I can afford to stay at a motel for one night, any more than that, and I will be broke. I mean, wha'ts the point of sponsoring a workshop if it all goes to pay for a motel? anyway, if anyone is brave enough to let me crash on their couch or somehting, let me know. please.
and thank you.

We'll get on the same wavelength with a few textures, organize them into expressions, then start getting into feel, and passion, and pull, and drama and all the deliciousness that makes this dance more yummy than just going thru the motions. We will stick to Egyptian style for this one, but will happily nod to variations for Tribal, AmCab, Lebanese, Greek, etc.
to Advanced students and professionals. We will cover a few combinations in a few styles, drilling the different levels of focus of the combination beyond
the mere step. The steps will be mind bending enough...trust me.
20 person limit – $40 July 5 or before/$45 after

How do you put it together so they remember more than your shoes, your costume, your hair or your smile! We will cover phrasing, energy transfer, stage dynamics, texture sequencing/morphing, entrances and a grab bag o'tidbits that will help evolve your dance into a performance

Sunday 6:00-8:30pm – Funky Fusion! (All Levels Welcome)
20 person limit $40 July 5 or before, $45 after
Hip Hop, Jazz, wild staging and more! Do you ride the fence between Middle Eastern Dance, American interpretive, ATS and funky funky Tribal/Fusion?
You'll get a serious kick out of this one. Oh heck, don't even want to do that stuff? I'll let you in on a little secret: technique is technique - it's the
expression that changes the label. heh heh heh SO - we will re-cover some of the techniques from our drills applicable to a few funky combos, and then
expand on their expression. Take the same techniques and apply them to Egyptian (oh wait, you probably did back in January!), then we'll show them in
context of a Tribal/Fusion combination. But the mind bend doesn't stop there - the same combinations make *excellent* accents & embellishments for phrases and exciting combos for Drum solos! (Ooooh, and we'll do them all! Muah hahahahahha)

A Desert Knights CD...

Guys,

I ordered a Desert Knights CD (thanks Sherry for the link and info!).

Like with any internet vendor, I received an "order status" e-mail. Well, sort of. The following text appeard after the usual information:

My name and address
Item I purchased
Price
Shipping
Total Price

So after all of this usual boring stuff, the following text appeared. I'm pasting an actual copy here... I've not edited a thing. This must be a fun company to work for!!!

***********************************************************************

Your CD has been gently taken from our CD Baby shelves with
sterilized contamination-free gloves and placed onto a satin pillow.

A team of 50 employees inspected your CD and polished it to make sure
it was in the best possible condition before mailing.

Our packing specialist from Japan lit a candle and a hush fell over
the crowd as he put your CD into the finest gold-lined box that money
can buy.

We all had a wonderful celebration afterwards and the whole party
marched down the street to the post office where the entire town of
Portland waved "Bon Voyage!" to your package, on its way to you, in
our private CD Baby jet on this day, Thursday, May 31st.

I hope you had a wonderful time shopping at CD Baby. We sure did.
Your picture is on our wall as "Customer of the Year." We're all
exhausted but can't wait for you to come back to CDBABY.COM!!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Sigh...

And of course, I’m always up for a drink.
