hello all! i´m currently travelling about central america and will be spending a while in guatemala. does anyone know of any capoeira players in coban, antigua, xela, lago atitlan areas? alternately, know of any other fun groups that meet and play/practice in those areas? i´m on the move, but am happy to stay put for a week at a time and would love to get to know some people as i travel.

thanks!

    Hello Becky,
I saw an article in the news paper, there is a group in Guatemala city that practices capoeira, they get together almost every Sunday in the central park in guate city. This is the link to the article if you want to see it, it’s in Spanish.

They included their phone numbers in the article. I’m not sure if they speak english, but I think at least one or two of them do; some of them lived in the states I think. Here are the phone numbers in case you decide to call: (502) 5646-2581 ask for Chicote; (502) 5522-5601 ask for Niño and (502) 5292-6222 ask for Acarajé.

And some years ago I heard about a place in Xela, I can’t remember the name, but I remember it was located in the old warehouse of Rosmo: 21 avenida de la zona 3.
    Hope that helps.
Have fun and a wonderful time here in Guate.
