Basil Canteen tonight!!!!! must RSVP

We will have our regular, bi-oriented dinner at Basil Canteen before this week's Primal party. We will meet this Saturday, September 20th at 7pm. All orientations and flavors are welcome.

Please RSVP to this to Jon at jonspinnerAThotmailDOTcom. RSVPing will be important for this one as this will be the first time we've tried this location. The Basil Canteen is owned by the same people who run Thai Basil, but is supposed to be a less expensive, more casual, dining experience.

We'll be meeting there at 7pm for dinner and head over to The Citadel sometime between 8pm and 9pm, a walk of about four blocks.

Basil Canteen
1489 Folsom St (@11th St.)
San Francisco

Jon will get there a little early and will be easily recognizable with his green hair. He is very approachable and loves talking to new people. A good time is guaranteed for all.

Sunday June 29th: March in Pride with the Bay Area Bisexual Network

Sunday June 29th
San Francisco
Exact time and place TBA,
probably 11am near Beale and Folsom

The Bay Area Bisexual Network wants you! To join us in the Pride Parade! The BABN Pride Parade contingent welomes all bisexuals, pansexuals, folks who don't like to label their sexuality, and similar types, along with their partners, lovers, and friends.

If you have never marched in Pride before, it is an eye-opening experience. You'll see a lot of people you know down the route, and there's nothing quite like being totally visible. It's really heady and exciting.

In addition, we are looking for bi-cyclists to bring bikes to the parade, circle out in front of the contingent during the parade, and be fabulous on wheels. Or alternatively, for people to wear rollerblades or similar and zip around out front. Please let me know if you are interested in doing this, and I can help arrange bike transport and other details. If biking and blading are not your thing, come and march or ride the pickup truck - most people in the contingent will be marching.

We will have bi-themed music, flags, a really big banner, and a whole lot of cool people. Every year I meet awesome new folks the day of the parade. Afterwards, a crowd heads over to the Pride celebration area, with all the music stages and speakers.

It's hard to say exactly when we will march, since Pride hasn't told us yet, but we will spend the pre-march time decorating the truck and bikes, socializing, passing out stickers, and so on.

If you wish to ride on the truck (where we will have a couple seats set up), let me know in advance.

A warning to folks who wish to march on foot: the last couple years the Pride organization has asked us to walk at a fast pace down Market Street, which has made it difficult for folks who can't break into a near-jog when the Pride folks are hurrying us along. Being hurried this way sucks, but there doesn't seem to be much we can do about it. If walking fast is going to be difficult for you, I recommend biking, blading, skating, or riding in the truck.

To get to the lineup area, take BART or Muni to the Embarcadero St station, and head away from Market on Beale.

We will NOT be doing a polyamory contingent this year, due to lack of organizer time and a lack of energy around the poly contingent in recent years. If you are interested in helping make this happen in future years, contact me and we'll start planning for next year.

There are numerous other bi-themed events going on the Wednesday-Sunday of Pride. We will likely have a presence at the Trans and Dyke Marches. Email me if you want details.

If you have any questions, feel free to email me at pepomint@gmail.com or call me at 415 305 8766.

if you want to ride your bike in the SF Pride parade with us, let pepper know really soon. he's looking for at least 7 people to make it worth the time.

we'll be marching in Pride as always. one member has been sprucing up his truck and ordered banners for us.

so we should be very snazzy this year.

i think pepper will also have "bi" stickers as well.

the poly contingent is marching with us too!
Chasing Amy Bisexual Float in Pride

if you are interested in helping the Chasing Amy group get their float into the parade (it's one of only 2 registrants in the parade which id as BI if i've heard correctly), head on over to Chasing Amy's site.

they could use the assist.

Amy has been a longtime organizer and funder of women's issues, trans issues, sex worker issues, etc.

plus she's one heck of a cool person.

and the CASC events always get a huge turnout of bi women so it's great that they'll hopefully be present.

wish we could ride with both her float and the BABN truck/float this year, but they don't let you get on or off the moving vehicles due to the death of a parade participant years ago. (that's why they train the wheel monitors and give a stiff fine if you get on or off during the parade.)

but it's great that we have 2 groups representing the B in the queer alphabet soup!

i recently attended the queer sangha which meets at the east bay meditation center on broadway in oaksterdam. they are really cool! they have tons of people of color and are so very inclusive of all the letters in the queer alphabet soup, that they call themselves the queer alphabet sangha. cool, no?

if you know of other spiritual groups that are LBTGIQQ...inclusive, give us a shout out!

i've also been visiting the Unitarian churches/societies/fellowships in the area. they are extremely inclusive and have created a "welcoming church" sort of badge thing at the national level of their denomination. in order to earn the moniker "a welcoming church" organizations have to go through a lengthy diversity training/certification education on LBTGIQQ.. issues. good for 'em!

it was soooooooo cool to see so many universal themes represented on the screen!

ever so much better than ANYTHING coming out of hollywood!

did anybody else go or know someone who did?

it was fantastic!

hooray for the funders too!

having been a fundraiser for many progressive events and seen many good organizations struggle for enough $$, it was so heartening to me to see that the HORIZONS foundation and the Astrea Foundation and even some govt arts orgs funded this event!

you can catch 4 of the films featured at the festival on their website! (i'll go find the link and post it.)

i had a chance to meet and talk with the organizers and filmmakers and it was so fucking awesome!!!

i love this city!

what are you planning for pride week?

last year i was an SF Pride week virgin. it was a blast!!!!

(i'd been to nashville's and houston's pride parades but this was something altogether different and fabulous!!!!!!!!! this is the grandmother of all pride weeks as far as i'm concerned!!!)

april and jon are always great at organizing a contingent at the trans and/or dyke marches. so i'm going to both of those.

i wanna go see our movie "bi the way" starring our own dear lani k, who unfortch got her footage mostly on the cutting room floor, which is showing at the red vic in the haight on friday night (and it ends in time to run over to the mission/castro area for the trans march!)

last year, citadel had an awesome afterparty on sunday night.

and the babn and poly folks who marched together at the parade on sunday also ate lunch together somewhere close to the parade route end. i imagine we'll do the same thing this year.

let me know where you'll be and if you want company.

and remember, there's lots more at babn.org if you sign up for the chat list info.

June 14 BABN dinner - pre PRIMAL party - Civic Center Area

pepper, jon and i have been asked to organize a pre-primal dinner.

pepper is sending out emails to everyone and posting it but can't attend due to a previously planned event.

i don't know which restaurant yet, (ananda fuara has an event that night which MAY preclude us from meeting there.)

so stay tuned for the LOCATION.

i'm sure it will be close to Citadel since we all walk over afterward.

and citadel is close to Civic Center BART.

i'll post here as soon as i have more info.

my neighbor Joani Blank, founder of Good Vibes, just came over and told me that the Unitarian church has a Bisexual minister who has designed a bisexual curriculum. Joani just attended a workshop she did at a regional meeting of Unitarians.

Yay! i think that's fucking awesome!

i'm not even sure what a bi curriculum is but i'm gonna research it and get back with you!
