New recordings, more summer gigs, a new Web site... so stay tuned!

In the meantime, come out to play in Saturday June 6th:

After many years of cutting himself and ruining his clothing with glue, Wizzbang is having an Artday Birth Opening! He'll be displaying his collage portraits at Daredevils & Queens in Santa Rosa, along with some oil paintings and a retrospective of work he has yet to complete.

The opening is June 6th @ 7 pm - champagne first to make the art better, followed by the obligatory milling, lurking, backstabbing and other gaggle-about art opening exercises. His birthday is actually June 1st but let's not tell anyone, alright?

And then, once we're all nice and lubricated, it will be time to stagger one block over to the Toad in the Hole for some live seal-on-seal action! Wizzbang will be stripping off the callous artist expression of disdain in exchange for a bass player's sneer to perform with Baby Seal Club! The low flash point Kerosene Kondors will be opening things up with a bang. If we're lucky, there may even be some drunken Borat look-alikes leftover from a prior event.

Hope you'll join us - if you can't, that's alright, we'll just hate you forever.

CALLING ALL INDEPENDENT MUSIC COMRADES!

The *dead*line for internet music broadcasters is upon us. July 15th is the date that all internet radio broadcasters are obliged to pay royalties that far exceed their annual budgets. Many outlets are going to shut down with their owners steeped in debt (the payments are retroactive to June 2006).

THIS IS SURELY THE END OF INTERESTING AND INDEPENDENT MUSIC AS WE HAVE COME TO LOVE FROM THE NET

To rub salt in the wound of a true money-grab by music execs, their lobbyists, and lawmakers alike, the new anti-music and anti-music-lover laws contain hidden demands that includes forfeiting the right to lobby Congress for support of the Internet Radio Equality Act.

As Celia Hirschman, champion of good music for all at KCRW, says, "Every American has the right to petition Congress." See the PDF press release that outlines some of the many egregious penalties the new laws entail:

CALL YOUR SENATORS

The time is now to call your senators and make your voice heard. It's simple: visit this page, enter your zip code, call the number(s) and leave a message using the included talking points:

http://www.capwiz.com/saveinternetradio/alert_9738601.html

GOODBYE SWEET TUNES, HELLO COMMERCIAL DRECK

Or would you rather listen as only the biggest national commercial programmers like Clear Channel can afford to stream the dullest pop hits? Just listen to broadcast radio on the air now to hear what we have to look forward to on the net.

Seriously, the new laws even force unsigned independent musicians to sign up to receive royalties, meaning that broadcasters must pay high rates for even music that artists intended to be freely available.

C'MON...

Let's keep the good music alive on the web. Call your senators today!

We played a headlining slot after two other fine bands. The Flynn Creek Circus, paired down to Blaze and Davey Jones on single trapeze, Tony as the MC and a couple dancers (I was unable to see from our stage) awed the crowd with fetching circus shenanigans and daredevil feats of strength and tandem skillz high above our heads.

BSC and FCC complimented each other by taking turns: We played a few, they performed, we played a few more, they changed into new colorful trapeze costumes and performed more, and so on.

Word in the crowd was we sounded great, with a healthy dance beat to lay down the hip shakin' law!

The rest of the evening was a hazy blur of clouds of what Mendocino is best know for and universal drunkenness abounding in every side yard and orchard, beside antique barns, along cow pasture fences, and inside the old farm house. Free drinks were available to performers and there was no lack of good keg beer for this stand-up drummer (thanks to the party chaps with compliments about my Cocktail kit)!

Extra special thanks to my mates for the ever-lastin' fun times! Otter-ettes, though we missed you, you were off the hook as we did not get around to the Otter Dance... Next time!
