storch wrap?

after hearing both puella and lara mention it, i decided to look into them and they look really nice! my question is, how hard was it for you to learn to do the different wraps? i don't have a whole lot of patience for that sort of thing but i am hoping that my impending mei tai will give some practice with it and i am thinking of getting a storch as well since i could wear my toddler in it while preggo and then wear the new baby in it when s/he arrives.

so for those of you that have them, do you love it? is there a big learning curve for all the different carries? do you think they are worth the big price tag ($100 for a wrap)?

there are also less expensive alternatives
i had an ellaroo when eamon was a newborn, and i only wish i had ordered a med. instead of sm., i didn't take into account the postpartum tummy

i've been using it again for simpler carries, when i just need to toss him on to throw the laundry in the dryer (our building's laundry room is too gross to put him down)

I made one out of a queen sized bed sheet, but would definately reccomend buying one. Months later I tried on a friends maya wrap and it was much more comfortable. Those ones are only about $30

I started with a bed sheet and have used both an ellaroo and a moby, and I SO recomend a storch. The fabric was SPECIFICALLY designed for babywearing- a nice double weave with enough stretch to be able to work with (as opposed to bed sheet or twill) but still be sturdy and not need tons of adjusting (like a stretch/jersey wrap) I was shocked at how thin the ellaroo wrap was when I finally got it and it didn't give as much support. It is the sling I use most from infant to toddler, tho I use my mei tai a lot right now with little girl being almost 2, and it's just so cute...

I would suggest picking one way to wrap it and getting comfortable with that, rather than trying a million different ways to wrap all at once. It looks intimidating, but I didn't think it took that long to figure out. 'Course it helps to have someone who knows what they're doing close by if possible.

So, depending on age & size of baby, I'd start with either the basic front cumberbund carry, or the back carry where you put baby in the sling on your back, bring it around front and tie over your bust, pass over shoulders, across baby, under baby's legs & tie around your waist. I liked the rucksack carry better for on the back, but a 'bum pop' is more likely and not something you want to deal with when first figuring the wrap out.

    Hope this helps!
