Back Pain

OK, any of you mamas get back pain from wearing your babes all the time? I want to wear my baby as much as possible now. Hell, it's the only way he'll get a good nap in! BUT...my back is killing me! He's getting heavier now and I'm having a hard time with it. I use different carriers each day so not to work out too many of the same muscles, but my shoulders, neck and back are hurting already. Is this just because I'm too old and my body can't handle it? I didn't have this problem with my first baby. I also haven't gotten my ass out to yoga class since the birth and my baby is now 10 weeks old. Maybe that's the problem...

are you wearing him mostly on the front or on the back? a front carry is great for the wee ones, but KILLS once they hit 15lbs. let me know & maybe i can help work out a few solutions for you. i would really recommend some sort of back/arm/core workouts. even a few doorjam push-ups per day would benefit you greatly.

Yes, I carry him in the front, as he is only 10 weeks and still not holding his head up steadily. He's probably close to 15 lbs. now so that is probably why I'm having more pain. Any suggestions would be great!

start carrying on your back. his neck will get stronger with practice (see african babies). follow the instructions i gave lola in her thread about wearing a mei tai while pregnant. if you need further instructions, i'm here for you.

Yeah I would try the ergo with the legs scrunched in the bottom trick (instead of putting legs out the sides keep them curled next to your body works for newborns only!). Or wrap baby in an infant insert or baby blanket and try the ergo infant hold. Another suggestion assuming your using a moby like wrap would be to make sure the fabric on top of each shoulder is spread out to distribute the weight. I remember the fabric getting scrunched up there and that pressure on a smaller part of my shoulder/neck was painful. I'm sorry if this is unclear. I'm sure if you google the moby wrap directions or the ergo babywearing instructions you can come across more detailed descriptions of what I'm trying to convey.
