Re: best baby carrier
Wed, September 19, 2007 - 9:18 AMmost babywearing enthusiasts will tell you that you should not face your baby out. the world is big & overwhelming to a little one & it can be stressful for them not to be able to turn away from it or to watch your facial cues in social situations. it sounds to me like a mei tai would fit your bill. depending on baby's age, you can safely & comfortably wear him or her on your back, front & hip! how old is your kiddo? -

Re: best baby carrier
Wed, September 19, 2007 - 1:18 PMshe is almost 5 months old and is 17 lbs. Is it to late to get one. I think that they are very convienent. I also Have 6 year old. Maybe your right abou theFacing outward. Never thought about that. I hear the becco goes up to 55 lbs. What about that one? I love the way the ellroo it too. the Ergo is neat with the pockets. The only thing is price. They all are kind of pricey. -

Re: best baby carrier
Wed, September 19, 2007 - 5:05 PMthe ergo is pricey but totally worth it. i have put WELL more than $100 worth of use into it, and still do -- my daughter is 15 months and 22lbs and we still use it all the time. i also see loads of people around with kids way bigger than she is that use it as well.
don't let the price scare you off. even at your daughters age and size, it will still be very comfy for both of you!!

Re: best baby carrier
Thu, September 20, 2007 - 10:57 AMi don't have any experience with the becco although i think jessica l has one and i know she loves it!
i don't have a mei tai deluxe either but i DID just receive my mei tai made by i-dra which i bought because i am pregnant and was looking for a less structured carrier to wear through pregnancy (as well as to support a truly awesome WAHM!) and i LOVE it, as does my daughter. she cried when i took her out of it! -

Re: best baby carrier
Thu, September 20, 2007 - 2:20 PMI wish i'd gotten an I-dra mei tai earlier. I got the Beco when Sequoia was a year old. It would've been useful from day one, i just couldn't convince hubby that i needed another after already owning a sling and a wrap, but by that age he was in a total "pick me up, put me down" phase, and spending several minutes to wrap him then let him down, then re-wrap and tie him got to be a pain. The mei tai and beco/ergo types are essentiall the same carrier, except a mei tai has long straps you can wrap and adjust, while the others have clips. During the up-down, up-down kiddie phase, i really appreciate the clip-on, clip off aspect.
As far as Ergo vs Beco, well, i think my Beco is prettier, and it's made in the US. Ergo is made in China but under ethical working conditions according to the manufacturer. My sis has an ergo and we've put them side-by-side, they're almost identical in dimension and strap placement. Ergo's have a larger pocket (beco pocket's kinda small), while Beco's hood is detatchable and ergo isn't

Re: best baby carrier
Thu, September 20, 2007 - 5:19 PMthe *only* reason i don't have a "mei tai-dra" is because i am terrible with wraps & ties. i can barely keep my jean jacket tied around my waist, i can't imagine my klutzy-self struggling to keep my 22 pound 1 year-old snug and safe.
they are beautiful, though ... and i hear she'll customize it just for you! -

Re: best baby carrier
Wed, September 19, 2007 - 11:04 PMWe really dig our Moby Wrap. I love the versatility of it. Anaya is okay on my hip or in front and if she is falling asleep will lay down in it in the sling position. She personally loves facing out and always has, she just sucks the world in though. She needs a lot of stimulation and hates to be constricted so she likes that I can allow her legs to be free facing out. -

Re: best baby carrier
Fri, September 21, 2007 - 9:15 PMI was recentley asking simular questions not evn two months ago.. My baby is the exact same age and weight as yours and I have a Mei Tai. I LOVE it. I have learned that there are so many different styles. Mine has wide shoulder straps which I really like because the weight is distributed all across my back instead of in just a couple spots. I ended up getting my mother in law to make me one with a free pattern we found on the internet, and it worked out perfect. The pattern fits his weight perfectly and I could even carry my 35lb stepdaugter on my back no problem.
