I am currently using a sling hangs pretty low. My LO loves to fall asleep in it, but I am worried about taking her out in it since it's fairly easy to accidentally bu mp her head when say, I'm in a store or something. I heard the baby bjorns are bad? Is there anything for a 3-month + old that is great? Thanks!

Re: Ok, what's the best carrier for a 3-month old?
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 5:24 PMi think you'd be okay with a beco or an ergo, if your 3 month old is able to mostly hold her head up. the fabric w/ the hood and a momma hand can do the rest in supporting her completely.
if we had had it, i would have put our girl in our ergo at 3 months ... she was very strong and able to hold up her head.

Re: Ok, what's the best carrier for a 3-month old?
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 5:36 PMa mei tai would be a good choice as well. the reason baby bjorn gets criticism (for anyone woh doesn't know) is that it allows the baby's legs to dangle straight down, putting all of baby's weight on the crotch & tailbone. this can cause problems & pain.
the best position for a developing baby's hips is to be open wide, knees slightly higher than hips. this distributes baby's weight across bottom & thighs & promotes healthy hip placement by positioning the hip joints into the sockets in the correct manner. this is best achieved by using a mei tai, onbu, ergo, beco or similar carriers in which the baby's legs can be wrapped "around" the wearers body, with full contact between the child's tummy & the wearer's body.

Re: Ok, what's the best carrier for a 3-month old?
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 6:16 PMIf your baby prefers the positioning of a pouch sling, why not a ring sling that you can use in the same position but adjust so it's higher up on your body? -

Re: Ok, what's the best carrier for a 3-month old?
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 9:26 PMI'm all about my Moby Wrap. It is so versitile. Though we have several carriers, I really like the Mei Tai that we got from I-dra (ix-chel), I am borrowing and ergo and I love it. I also have a ring sling that is great for a quick ride on the hip as well as in the laying down position.

Tue, March 4, 2008 - 4:38 AMi would also say that your sling should come down just a smidge past your belly button ... maybe you could try www.hotslings.com in a basic cotton stretch to get you through until your girl is seven or eight months old?
i carried abigail in our hotsling until she was eight months old : her back to my chest, tilted slightly toward my left arm with her legs crossed yogi style ... she loved it and so did i! -

Re: Ok, what's the best carrier for a 3-month old?
Tue, March 4, 2008 - 11:38 AMI have this sling, but I don't know how to use it. Actually, I feel it's better to wait with this sling? I was so afraid of my LO falling out of it. I am looking for something that would be convenience, yet provide my LO with contentment while she rides with me!

I have seen those baby bjorns at my neighborhood Target and was wondering if they are any good? -

Re: Ok, what's the best carrier for a 3-month old?
Tue, March 4, 2008 - 12:14 PMI love the ring slings like that. It is just a lot of fabric to deal with when you have a little tiny one. The great thing about thoe is that you can tighten the so falling out isn't really a concern. If you are worried about putting it on right maybe you can find someone locally who has some experience and can run through it with you. Or talk to I-dra(ix-chel) She is the baby wearing queen imo!

Re: Ok, what's the best carrier for a 3-month old?
Tue, March 4, 2008 - 12:17 PMsee my previous reply to read why i am against the bjorn.
use the instructions found on the rockin baby sling site (under "how to") & practice in a mirror, with a stuffed animal first. then practice with your baby over the bed or some other soft surface. when you feel like she is secure, take a stroll around the house. practice taking her out & putting her back in. only when you feel like you've really got it down, should you take it outside. practice, practice! slings can be alot of fun! -

Re: Ok, what's the best carrier for a 3-month old?
Tue, March 4, 2008 - 1:03 PMi use my moby-d wrap every day. i love it.
i have used it since our little one (also three months old now) was about a week old. it is so secure soothing to have her whole body right on mine (but it does get a little warm in there...)
and my partner and i use a fabulous ring sling that we love because it is so easy to use (although i have never had a problem with the quick wrapping of the moby)...
so those are what we use around here although a peanut shell pouch sling is arriving anyday now to add to our mix. our girl is able to hold her head up already though so a side/hip sling works for us over here.

Re: Ok, what's the best carrier for a 3-month old?
Thu, March 6, 2008 - 10:59 AMI'm really of getting a moby warp. It seems my LO is getting too big for one? I wish I would have gotten a moby wrap when she was just a newborn. Perhaps the moby wrap is for smaller babies? -

Re: Ok, what's the best carrier for a 3-month old?
Fri, March 7, 2008 - 7:50 PMI use my Moby wrap daily with Fred, and he is now almost 4 months old. I use it with him facing in and facing out. He loves it and it provides a great deal of support. I also use an Over The SHoulder Baby HOlder around the house. It's great for quick ins and outs, and he likes sleeping in it around the house. Sometimes I'll get him good and out in the sling and then I'm able to put him down in the crib for the rest of the nap. Good luck, Ann.
