What is a Verm ?

If you're going to do vermiculture in composting bins, then you can use the redworms that garden centers charge way too much for (check your nearest bait shop for better pricing on them), but I've heard it's not good to introduce redworms directly into the soil in areas where they aren't native because they can crowd out native species with their vigorous ways.

I have had a worm bin at my condo since we moved in. It's an old 100-gallon fish tank that I seeded with a layer of organic compost at the bottom and about 50 redworms that friend gave me. Now I have hundreds of worms and they eat all of our compostable kitchen waste making nice, rich compost for the deck garden.

You probably already have worms in your soil. Just put down a thin layer of manure or coffee grounds and wet. Lay some cardboard down and wait for a few days. Make sure it stays moist below. The worms will hang around and procreate there. It is much easier, cheaper, and better for the land to just create a suitable habitat to increase what is already there instead of importing.
