We live in a Naiborhood, I seen these little contraption in a Science Magazene in the back pages. In case of a earth Quake in would come in handy for water. And would be fresh free water for the Garden. But there could be contamatation seepage. There's no Chemcal plants around only other peoples yards.

Re: Can I put a Well In my backyard In Calif. and the cost ?
Thu, May 8, 2008 - 11:11 AMYou would probably need a permit, you have to be licensed to drill wells. Then it has to be tested by the state.

Thu, May 8, 2008 - 2:12 PMDepends on where you are. I can have one but I live in unincorporated county. They are really expensive to drill and you do have to have a permit and testing done. -

Re: Can I put a Well In my backyard In Calif. and the cost ?
Thu, May 8, 2008 - 5:26 PMMy late father in law had a well in his backyard for irrigation. He had put in in the late 70's. It required a city permit. He didn't need the water tested unless he wanted to drink it. He got it tested anyway and found that it was heavy in minerals. It wouldn't have passed a test for potable water was fine for gardening. The drilling an installation cost him about 1,300 plus change. Remember though that was back in 77. I'm sure the cost has gone up. -

Re: Can I put a Well In my backyard In Calif. and the cost ?
Thu, May 8, 2008 - 8:12 PMThe cost can vary also as to how deep they have to go....
I think ......you should figure around $ 5,000.....15,000....there are a few variables even if you are able to....I don't think many cities let you drill wells anymore inside the city limits.... -

Re: Can I put a Well In my backyard In Calif. and the cost ?
Fri, May 9, 2008 - 6:56 AMMy well is down 310', it costs $3.00 a foot to drill. Here in MO you have to case the first 80' with schedule 80 well casing at $6.00 a foot. I chose to go with a PV direct well pump(solar powered) and that was another $2000. -

Re: Can I put a Well In my backyard In Calif. and the cost ?
Fri, May 9, 2008 - 8:58 AMI was quoted 5 per foot for a hole in granite in 2003 at a property I was looking at buying. Neighbors were all 700ft++ depths. We bought elsewhere... I could put one in at our house now, but it probably would not pass testing as potable.
