        • This is my encouragement for attendees to join the contest :)
It is a great contest, y'all! I had so much fun! As a matter of fact, this was one of my favorites, if not THE favorite that I have ever done, and I've competed all over the country in about 15 different competitions! It's great! I like it so much because it was stress-free! I didn't have to worry about choreography or even the music. We didn't know what was going to play when we got up there (sounds scary, but not really - more like freeing) and we didn't know what our bodies were going to do. So it was "in the moment". The art of improvisation is slowly becoming a dying art in belly dance - this contest is all about improvisation - the way belly dance is supposed to be performed in its truest essence! Bahaia is doing a great thing holding a contest like this. You should do a great thing for yourself and push yourself "into the moment" and free yourself by competing! I always view contests as competitions with myself mainly (like "Can I achieve this or that!?) (and a little with my competitors - in a totally nice and open way!) It was so fun AND friendly! Come on and give a try!
          • I entered the professional category last year in the contest and all though I did not place I felt so accomplished for even taking part in it. I will be competing again this year. It was a greta learning expereince for me.
All though the contestants do not get written comments from the judges, they do get score sheets and I thought that those were just as beneficial. I was also able to visit with other contestants, the judges and audience members later to ask where I could improve.
I really appreciated the opportunity to perform and compete!
            Join us!

  • I loved this seminar. Souhail's attention to detail may seem persnickety to some, but I loved it. He taught me the correct way of doing some things, corrected some bad habits, gave new (to me) ways to play a few rhythms, and showed me what a good dancer dances like to music. I got a healthy slice of humble pie from him, too.

Thanks for bringing Souhail and Sadie to Texas, Bahaia.
