Artsy Gulfport continues their whimsical salute to the Gecko with the Sixth Annual Gecko Fest. This family festival and walking parade celebrates the End of Summer and Labor Day weekend with color, whimsy, extraordinary entertainment and a street dance on Saturday, September 2, 2006. Gecko Fest is easily described as a whimsical combination of a family-oriented Mardi Gras, Renaissance Faire, and British Loony Party gone Gecko in Gulfport, Florida.

Wear Gecko hats, fish hats, colorful hats and costumes to celebrate the many colors of Geckos! Bring drums, rattles, noise makers, kazoos, musical instruments, balloons, decorated umbrellas - just use your imagination. Join in or be a spectator - this parade is full of colorful surprises and characters!

Selected as "Best Bet," "Hot Ticket," "Hot Road Trip," AOLs top ten for Labor Day Weekend, and "Planet Pick," this locally cultivated festival is filled with whimsy and charm as is this quaint waterfront community.

Basic directions

Take I-275 South or U.S. 19 towards St. Petersburg to 22nd Avenue South, go right (or west) to Beach Blvd., turn left and go south on Beach Blvd. towards the waterfront area.

Another option would be to travel south on 58th Street until you reach 28th Avenue South and go left to Beach Blvd., then turn right - or, take 58th Street South to Shore Blvd. South and turn left and go to Beach Blvd. (which is past the beach parking lot on the waterside and before the pier).

  • Wear FESTIVE stuff!!

If we can get PaLaNah to come as a mermaid.... (she already has the tail) that would rock - lol

MJ is correct. It will be a long hot day. I am thinking somewhere between pirate and tribal fusion maybe.
