about Tribal LA videos!!!

Hey everyone!
OK this is just a quick note to say that if you danced at Tribal LA and did not order your video, you still can. I ordered mine Sunday and Lisa was really clear about how to order online and when to expect the video. The kicker is, the video arrived TWO DAYS after the event!!! I walked around the house in a fog of amazement- it really annoyed my roommates that i kept saying "I can't believe it 's here already!!!"
The quality was great, and the price- which may have turned some of you off of buying it- was totally worth it! It is only $30, part of which undoubtedly went to the quick shipping fees. It is highly unusual for me to be on here promoting a videographer, but I was really impressed, and wanted y'all to know that you won't get ripped off with an overpriced, poor quality, interminably delayed video that you can hardly bear to watch! ok- just my two cents! to get your video, go to: lisahoglan.com, just click "buy video" and enter your details(stage name, real name, phone number, date and time of performance) in the "special instructions" box. That's it!

Soo.... youtube is making me mad.

I am having some issues over here.

So! I finally got imovie onto my mac. yay! and then i plugged in my video cam... more yay! it was super easy to download the videos!

so then i try and download onto youtube... no go. it seriously loads until I shoot myself. I can leave it for a day and it's not budging.

Is there a trick? does it need to be resized? am i fated to never post fabulous videos?????

It's time for a new semester of dance at the Y!!! ( and no, don't bring a hard hat. )

My bellydance class starts up on Sept. 17th, and I hope to see you there!

The class costs $50 for eight weeks, on Wednesdays from 7:15 pm- 8:15 pm.

We will emphasise basic bellydance movements, with emphasis on conditioning and technique. We will also examine the stylistic differences between historic and current dance styles in the Middle Eastern Dance and Bellydance Fusion communities. Depending on the overall class skill level, we may use some props.

Wonder why we've been so quiet lately?

Anyone who knows us can tell you we aren't the quiet type - so what's going on??

Changes are in the air for Ban-dal. Our fearless leader, Abby, is moving to Arizona at the beginning of August. What this means for Ban-dal?? We'll still be performing-- you can't get rid of us that easily! However, after this summer you may be seeing a little less of us....
for now.

We'll keep y'all posted on details. In the meantime, check us out at the Tribal Rendezvous Pre-Party on the 25th. It's our last Southern California show before Abby moves!

3/4 Shimmy

Hey gals,
So I just read an interesting tribe thread on 3/4 shimmies- a girl was asking the proper way to do it because teachers teach it differently--- up,down,up and down,up,down.

General conscensous (i cant spell that. thats the 3rd try) is that the up,down, up / step is the easiest way to do it.

But, also it's best to learn both. I think let's keep the down,up,down for combos and the up,down,up for layering.

Class updates

This has been a difficult and grueling decision for me, but I have decided that come April 1st, I will no longer be an instructor at Reflections in Anaheim. I LOVE teaching, and after a few months of regrouping, I will hopefully find another venue in southern Orange County.

My priorities are changing and I am finding a struggle between what I *want* to do, and what I actually *can* do.

It's time for some financial stability and some energy being focused on my fabulous gals and Ban-dal.

anyone who can't do classes, and want to dance-- please contact me! We'll have dance days.

**FYI, there was no conflict with this studio-- they were wonderful and still are,and I will continue to support them. Thanks!!

Our goals for 2008 are Swords, Improv, and Zils (affectionately referred to as Sizzle). Last weekend, we performed at Festival of the Rose and did an improv with zils. Our improv felt good and the zils weren't bad, either. Yay for progress!

Hope everyone is having a wonderful year so far! Abby just found out that she will be taking over for the wonderful Sooz at Reflections Dance and Fitness in Anaheim!

She is very excited to start teaching at a new studio, and hope some of you can join her!
Classes start on Thursday nights OFFICIALLY on March 6th
7:30-8:30p: Beginning Tribal Fusion Belly Dance -- learn the basic fundamentals of American Tribal Style Belly Dance. This class will focus on drills, conditioning, and fun! No experience neccesary!
8:30-9:30p: Intermediate Combinations for Tribal Fusion Bellydance -- know the basics, but don't know what to do with them? This class takes the basic moves in tribal belly dance in integrates them with fast-paced rocking combinations for improv. or choreography!

I did it! I finally went out into the solo world!

I don't know why I was so freaked out about this. I have danced alone before... I just got so used to having you gals with me that I was suddenly very self-conscious and uncomfortable with dancing alone.

The restaurant/lounge/club in LA was a really awesome place. The crowd was fun. It was super hectic, and I literally had a moment's notice before I was thrown up there.... and despite the fact that I DID forget some of the choreography (no one noticed), and made parts of it up on the fly, according to my video-camera it looked pretty rockin.

NATIUM World Dance & Kahlea will be hosting 2008's Bohemian Nights, a bellydance collection. The showcase will be a monthly or every other monthly showcase of all types of bellydance. Alterna-cirque bellies WELCOME!

Shows will take place at a venue in the Tempe area and will have an oldey timey, circus side-show, exotic feel. Bellydancers of all disciplines are welcome from:

Traditional : Egyptian, Turkish, Orientale, Persian, etc...
Tribal: ATS, World Tribal, Fusion, Modern Fusion, and Goth Fusion
World dance: West African, Eastern Euro folk, Flamenco, Zambra, Folklorico
Circus/show dance: Little Egypt, Mata Hari, Aerialists, themed...

Enter another place and time where world fusion bellydance company, NATIUM World Dance, known for blending various world dance flavors with bellydance, hosts Bohemian Nights, A bellydance cirque. This showcase of talent takes place in 2008 at _________, in Tempe Arizona.
As audiences wander in they are greeted with sights, sounds and scents evocative of exotic destinations, worlds away, and of times forgotten. From the rich looking textiles and decorations from other countries, to the sounds of worlds coming together under one roof, audiences will feel as though traveling to mysterious, foreign lands. Wander through the mini bazaar to barter, haggle and bid on unique objects d'arte from artisans and vagabonds.

Each Bohemian Nights showcase kicks off with a free mini bellydance lesson to familiarize the audience with this art form and to incite excitement for the dance jam later. Then, Bohemian Nights becomes a two hour-long showcase of dancers, ranging from student performers showing off what they've learned in classes, to semi-professionals desirous of more exposure, to special professional dancer guest stars who will light up the night. Some performers will dance with props such as swords, Chinese fans, fire, veils, skirts and more. After each event, the dance floor opens up for all dancers, whether in the show or in the audience, to get up and take part in an open-floor bellydance soiree, into the night. Performers from the show come out to dance and migle with the audience and to do a meet and greet. The showcase becomes a party for all to participate.

These events are for 21 and over crowds only, as the venue serves liquor. Come hungry too as the menu has tasty treats from appetizers to delicious grilled burgers.

A portion of ticket sales will be donated to a charity or used to benefit a local business selected by NATIUM World Dance, with a different charity or business selected for each show. Raffle tickets sold will also benefit these select organizations, with all proceeds donated to that charity or business. Gratuities and tips are always appreciated, a portion of which may also be donated to the charity or business selected as well.

So, I have been messing around with You Tube and found that you can create video files for private groups. Sooo very Neat! I have just created one for our troupe.

Who here hasn't been to a practice, then gone home and completely forgot what you just learned. Now we can video tape our new moves and choreography and post them and practice at home.

Ban-dal is excited to welcome a new member to our crazy little family! Sarah has officially joined the troupe and we had our first practice Wednesday night. Sarah is an experienced bellydancer so it won't take her long to catch on to our wild ways. I'll let her tell you the number of times she heard this during practice: "Here is the move. But we NEVER do it this slow."

So be on the lookout for a new face - and be nice to her! :)

I know first hand what it's like to have a passion for something, and no one to dance with! Orange County's tribal community is finally growing- but it isn't there yet! Are you an experienced ATS dancer? Did you just get your first DVD? Do you have the ideas and know-how but no one to dance with??

Tribal Fusion Instruction update!

Hi all!

Just an update on instruction in Orange County!

Tribal-Fusion at Hidden Talents in Huntington Beach, now REstarting October 9th on TUESDAY nights, from 6-7pm (moved from Wednesdays).

In addition, the Saturday morning classes through Tustin Parks and Rec will stay the same, starting October 13th from 8-9am for 6 weeks!

Tribal Cafe Video

Here's the scoop on the video:

It looks awesome! They did a great job on it, and it got here quickly, and she gave me a follow up email to make sure I knew it had been sent out! (Imagine that!) Very happy with it.

The actual performance: I think it looks pretty good. There is a definate improvement from last year's performance, and even from the last time we were videoed. (sp?)

I'll bring it Saturday to Crown, BUT we are going to have a major nitpick day with it to nitpick everything that needs a fixin'. :)

Soooo, here's what you all (okay, maybe not "all" but *some* of you, or at least a *few* of you) have been waiting for!!!

Hiplash finally has a video on YouTube!! Yay!!!! I am so excited! The video is of our performance at the monthly showcase, TaXim in Eagle Rock, CA. It was so much fun, and I think we had a pretty good show. Solace played live music, which was amazing as usual. We even had an encore presentation after the crowd shouted for us to come back out! (well, they were shouting... hmm, maybe they were saying something else?) ;)

Just got the confirmation in the mail for Tribal Cafe this year-

We are performing at 8:25 on Saturday night, same night as FCBD. Performances are from 5pm-10pm, which puts us directly in the center!
