Bellydancers' Picnic and Dance in the Park
Sponsored by Inanna & Siham
This is not a hafla. This is a show for our friends and family on a small outdoor stage at the Festival Shelter in North Kansas City's Macken Park.
Admission is free, but we'll be passing the hat to help defray expenses. And the picnic will be potluck. No alcohol please. Come dance to your hearts' content.
Because Siham and I are fronting the expenses (and Siham's donating use of her sound system), we're offering sign-ups for dance slots first to our troupe members. Then we'll open up registration to everyone else in Kansas City on a first-come, first-served basis. Those who don't get a slot in this show will have first consideration for the next one.
Everybody dance now!

Re: Mark Your Calendars: Sunday June 29
Tue, April 1, 2008 - 10:46 AMExactly! We need more dance venues. We're hoping it will be successful, and I'd like to see opportunities like this maybe once a quarter. The problem is finding decent indoor venues for the cold months that don't cost a fortune. There is a Knights of Columbus Hall near me that we could rent for $300. If anyone knows of any other affordable venues, please let me know.
And we're looking forward to seeing everyone, too!

Tue, April 1, 2008 - 11:58 AMSounds fabulous! We'll be there -- and if you have a spot open, we'd love to dance too. If not, we'll cheer our hearts out for everyone else! (well, we'll do that either way, but you know what I mean...lol) -

Re: Mark Your Calendars: Sunday June 29
Tue, April 1, 2008 - 12:08 PMThis is brand new as of this morning, so & Company and Banat el Shamal troupe members still haven't had a chance to sign up yet. I'm starting my list now, so we'll put Pavlov's Hips down for first request when we know how many dance spots we have left. I'm thinking we should know more in a couple weeks. Will keep you posted. -

Re: Mark Your Calendars: Sunday June 29
Tue, April 22, 2008 - 1:31 PMI would love to have you and your gals ... but we're up to two hours plus of dancing with just the Ali family dancers. We're still waiting to hear on a couple groups, and if they're not interested or can't do it, we may have about four slots open. I'm hoping to know more by this weekend. -

Re: Mark Your Calendars: Sunday June 29
Tue, April 22, 2008 - 1:35 PMI still have Pavlov's Hips request for a dance slot in mind, as well.
Siham sure does have a lot of students and groups sprouting off her studio. I thought we'd have more dance slots open than we do.
Looks like it's a popular idea, though. I was thinking if it was successful we could make these quarterly events. And we could work on figuring out a way to cycle everyone through who wants a chance to dance. -

That would be great! And maybe we could eventually start to incorporate some PURE stuff into it too -- it'd be nice to have more cross-school performances. :) -

Re: Mark Your Calendars: Sunday June 29
Tue, April 29, 2008 - 11:06 AMIt's official. As of this morning, the program is totally full up (more than full) with Ali Family performers, and I never got a chance to open it up to other dancers. My apologies to anyone who might be disappointed. We definitely need more performing opportunities in this area. I'm working on it.
Maybe another informal show in September? And give others the opportunity to perform? Whadya think? -
