Learn Egyptian and American approaches to Oriental Dance. Learn where specific steps come from and what they are used for. The class will include discussion on how to engage and entertain your audience, how to enhance the grace and fluidity of your movement and how to be culturally appropriate.

3-5 Baladi Taxim w. Lucy
Baladi taqsim is the heart and soul of Egyptian dance. Lucy, one of Washington, DC's top Egyptian-style performers, will teach the art of improvising to this slow, soulful, sensual style! Learn how to quickly identify the progression of the baladi taqsim, the rhythms used, and how to interpret the music and rhythm with your body. This workshop will focus on improvisation, musical and emotional interpretation.
