Ok, so far we have booked and confirmed the gorgeous Lynne Chapman doing a Flamenco Tribal Fusion Workshop, Fabulous Jenny Billings doing a Belly Dance workshop, I have hired 4 natives of andalusia - 2 flamenco guitarists, a singer and a dancer and a crew of supporters! I have a De Lish burlesque dancer, i have Kate from poi passion doing a fire fan dance with other spinners and fire throwers for the saturday night, A floating thai lantern display, poi dancing workshops, Goddess workshops, i have booked and confirmed tai chi and yoga teacher - we are also trying to run a creche for this slot!! The amazing Maria is back doing the samba thing, the beautiful capoeira crew, hula hula hhhoooolaaaa hooping, circus skill, out door souk, arts and crafts, fairy market, yummy yummy hot chai anddelicious food from around the world oh and so much more still coming - any ideas welcome!!! Tribal workshops in Yatton (SW of Bristol)

Important Information for Subscribers

It with is with deep regret that i inform you i will not be producing any further issues of Tribal Magazine. We have received a disapointing and discouraging subscription renewal, thus it is financially impossible for me to publish further magazines. This has been one of the hardest decisions i have had to make as i have enjoyed producing the magazine and have met some wonderful people. I would like to say thank you for all of those people who have supported this venture, especially those people who did renew their subscriptions and those who have submitted wonderful artcles, artwork and photographs - I urge you to find other platforms to publish your work so as your time and effort does not go to waste.
I will be sending letters out to all subscribers outlining the decision and also instructions on how to get your subscription fee refunded. Should you wish to contact me please do so in writing as i am not always able to get access to the internet. The address is in the front of the magazine.
I still have back issues available of issue 1,2 and 4 should anyone like to purchase them.

Tribal calendar now ready!

All calendars are sold in aid of the World Land Trust which is a charity that works to save tropical forests and wildlife. They play an active role in the bid to slow global warming which effects us all. And of course, Sir David Attenborough (one of my heros) is a patron.

The calendars are A4 and have a piece of tribal artwork for each month. (These could be framed at a later date).
The artwork has been printed from original oil, acrylic and pastel pieces. There are some previously unpublished work included.

The cost - £7.50 each (+p&p)

Tribal Practice Group Oadby, Leicestershire

Hi Guys!

I'm going to be holding a brand new dance practice class every Tuesday from 7.30pm to 9.30pm at the mirrored ActiveLife studio, Oadby Beauchamp School in Oadby.

We will be focusing on Tribal improvisation and fusion dancing in groups for longer periods of time to build confidence, drills, increasing stamina and muscle strength, formation changes, new combos and some Unmata inspired fusion! Great as a supplement to your usual ATS class. Come prepared to work hard, sweat, get some guided practice time and have some fun!

Classes start from the 30th October and it's £5 for the 2 hours. You will ideally need prior Tribal experience but please contact me if you are a beginner, for more details or for information on your nearest ATS beginners class.

Gathering of The Tribes 2008, Finland

Belly-licious event 22nd sept

Dear all, Becky from Bellywiggla's here, I am holding an event on 22nd Sept to raise money for abandoned and orphaned children in Egypt. Its going to be a great show with performances from Storm, Angela Wooi and lots of great dancers not to mention DJ Alikat to get us all shakin our stuff. Subscription Refund - please don't cancel your paypal subscription

Some people have receieved their magazine cancellation letter and have immediately cancelled their subscription through paypal. I understand individuals reason for doing this but it is causing alot of problems with the refunding process. Please please be assured that you will have the refund you are entitiled to. However, if you cancelled the subscription and you have receieved some magazines as part of the subscription, it means that you are not paying for the magazines you have received. I am already at a financial loss and would appreciate everyones patience and understanding at this difficult time. Dance retreats - holidays

I would like to know about dance retreats and holidays that are happening/being organised, do you know of any? (for tribal, oriental dance, flamenco, odissi, sapera, dunyavi, 5 Rhythms, yoga-trance, etc.).

It would be good to have all the info together so that we can see what's available when we go on holidays and we are looking to improve our dancing skills!

Just to let you know that although you cannot book throught the website at present (see previous post - due to paypal) You can still send cheques or purchase your tickets on the gate. Those who are unable to purchase tickets online but wish to attend the camp can have tickets at the lower ratre of £49 for the whole week end- which is a bargain. Please read next post for what's going of at the camp. If anyone can cut and paste this information and pass it on to other tribes or interested parties that would be very much appreciated.

I'd love to read an article on tribal bellydancing events around the world, when they are, with a description of what they're like and reader's stories on how they rated.... any chance...?

The general skills intensive is a 15 hour course, usually taken at the FCBD studio, with Carolena teaching. With only 20 people in Toronto, you will have Carolena and Megha teaching and coaching. You will receive instruction in anatomy as it applies to dance, music theory, instruction in all FCBD steps and concepts, drills, critique and question and answer time.

In order to attend this workshop, you MUST have prior ATS knowledge either via class, workshop or FCBD instructional dvds. This is a must - not an option. Usually a dvd or in-person assessment is required in order to qualify for registration, but this has been waived for this event. Do not disappoint Carolena or Megha - be well prepared with the material. All volumes of FCBD dvds can be purchased through Cleopatra's Bazaar or directly from FCBD.

Once completed, you will receive a General Skills for ATS certificate. It should be noted that completing this certification does not qualify one to be an authorized ATS teacher.

Also included in the registration are gourmet catered vegetarian lunches each day, water and juice for all participants.

Looking to travel around Europe with my friend at the end of August when she has holidays and then will be based in London (Spitalfields) for the first two weeks of September.

Well, it's march, its a beautiful spring day and i'm getting thoughts of the summer and this years Goddess Camp. GODDESS CAMP 2007

Yes, that's right! I'm taking bookings for the Goddess Camp!

This year it is going to be bigger and better than ever! We have some of the same workshops as last year (hey, if it aint broke don't fix it!!) including ATS, Egyptian Dance, African Dance, Capoeira, Yoga, Poi and Flamenco.
We are also adding some exciting new stuff - Burlesque workshops, Samba, Fire Dancing, Tribal Fusion, Tai Chi and sooooo much more planned!
There will be kiddies workshops including circus stuff and i am trying to sort out a crech facility for the wee ones!!
More and Bigger marquees, Tipis, Indian chai chapel, chill out space, Camp fire, drumming, samba band, evening entertainment and open cabaret show, on site massage!!

Same venue as last year in beautiful Leicetershire countryside.

Tickets are £49 advance and they do go up nearer the time. This price includes all camping and workshops with the possibility of extra workshops available at an additional fee.

...so share the music choices you feel are most "inappropriate" for belly dance/tribal belly dance - but that you'd love to do!

I have to confess to a weakness for "Live and Let Die" by Wings (how sad!) and "You Only Live Twice" covered by Soft Cell (flat vocals an' all).

"Pump It", Black Eye Peas - only if I can dance reeealllly slowly to counteract the speed and energy of the track.

"How Do", (the seduction song Britt Ekland "sings" to Edward Woodward in the original "Wicker Man"), by Sneaker Pimps.

Oh, on a different tack entirely, if there's a costume I'd like to nail down it's the one worn by "The Blue Voice" in the film "Dougal and the Blue Cat"........

I shall post a more concise review later, as I am off to hoard dancers into three gruelling workshops with Jen, but I just Had to comment on what a great night it was, and I was really impressed with how everybody, audience and dancers alike, got into the spirit of the occasion.

Something to book into the diary for next year?

Day of the Dead - Bring an offering for the Alter!!!

As we are celebrating the Mexican Day of the Dead, those guests coming to the event are welcomed to bring an offering for the Alter! This is traditionally flowers or food in Mexico. I know some guests are bringing candles and carved pumpkins which is a great idea, or you can bring flowers or items to decorate your own table. The church it self is enchanting but i think this might make it quite magic!!

Poetry Competion - Win the a signed Tribal Bible

We ran a competition in the last issue of Tribal Magazine to win a signed Tribal Bible! you can't get hold of them now unless you train on the teacher training course with Kajira herself so basically they are like rocking horse poo poo!! If you want to get your hands on one all you need to do is email a poem about Tribal dancing - it can be silly, serious,moving, inspiring - whatever! Kajira will then pick the winner and hey presto you have a very much sort after copy of this amazing book!! send poems into info@tribalmagazine.co.uk - poems wll be published!

I'm so excited!! The venue is super sweet, and I'm supposed to be receiving a menu of lovely little nibbles that you can order during the show. There's a bar downstairs to take car of us, and a coat check to look after your things. After the performance in Bar Bollywood, we move the party upstairs to the gorgeous bar of Butterfly, where there will be DJs spinning for us and we can dance the night away in high style!

The performance is general admission, with a small seated section in front available on a first come, first served basis. Bar Bollywood and Butterfly are both at 34 Dover St, which is right around the corner from the Ritz at Green Park tube station on the Picadilly line (that's the same line that the workshops are on, as they're up at the Islington Arts Factory by Holloway Road and Caledonian Road).

Message me if you need any information, and bring your dancing shoes!

Also, a word about workshops: If you've been thinking about registering for workshops, now is the time! They're filling up, and space is limited.
