Hi ya'll! We're still working out the details, but I will be in Richmond, VA on July 20th (that's a Sunday!), to give a double fan workshop. Due to my insanely busy schedule this summer, I will be accepting fan pre-orders for this workshop only through May 18th (that's the same cutoff date as the Pharos Live! workshops). Here's the thread on how to order: tribes.tribe.net/bastet/th...6b82f17f8.
I will order extras, so don't fret!

Re: Richmond, VA Fan Workshop
Wed, May 7, 2008 - 1:08 PMHi Bastet - I am short and have very short arms. I tried Erin's fans (the pink black-stave ones) and I had some trouble passing them under my arms without jabbing myself... can you recommend which fan is best for short-armed folks? (I'm assuming the shortest staves?)
Thanks! -

Re: Richmond, VA Fan Workshop
Wed, May 7, 2008 - 3:53 PMHmmm...My arms are 19'' from armpit to wrist (I am 5'2'', so I hear ya!). All of the fans have a 12''+/- 0.5'' stave. Unless you go custom made, the next smallest staves are nearly half the length. These are very small, and honestly will become lost in your costume and your dance. So, here's my advice: I would suggest that you concentrate more of the fan movement in your wrist, using the elbow more as a shock absorber. I'm just guessing here, but I think most of the jabbing is due to increased elbow movement (I'll let ya know when I see ya, though!). Another reason for "jabbing" may be because the wrist is pulling the fan more in and out relative to the body rather than up and down. I say, go with the fans you want, and I'll show you how to modify your arm positions (or even body posture) to make things work!
As a general comment on fan arm position: The more open your arms, and lifted your chest, the better they look and the easier they handle---go with full-on ATS posture!
Hope all this helps! -

Re: Richmond, VA Fan Workshop
Wed, May 7, 2008 - 3:56 PMOne more thing...unless your armpit to wrist measurement is LESS than 12'' (which would be unlikely!), I think you're fine to get the big fans...
