although sæglópur will be available to purchase from itunes from july 11th, the actual release will not be in stores in america until august 8th, due to a delay with the artwork.

The 10s pause in the middle of a song is awe-inspiring: the band suddenly stops playing, the room fells dead silent, and you get this big rush of self-conscience, and at the same time you feel so close to everybody else, sharing the same moment altogether: I love it.
The light show is also very good; I really liked the part with just three lights on stage that shine brightly while when they're playing, and slowly fade away when the sound goes down; as if their music was fueling the lights: magical.
I hope they come out with a DVD of this show.

After seeing SR for the first time at their Oakland show last year (from back in the balcony), I was psyched to be able to see them from the 8th row when they played on Monday in San Raphael. So here, in no particular order, are some thoughts about the show.

~ While definitely modern, the Marin Vet's hall is a really nice venue! I don't think there is a bad seat in the house!!
~ Aniima was great again! I am floored that such a strange combination of instruments could sound so wonderful!
~ They dropped Taak and opened with glósóli, but with the same visuals/screen effects *YES!*
~ They were plagued by technical problems for most of the show—before the screen went up, jónsi actually went offstage during the opening number to deal with something and roadies were hovering around the speakers and drumset all night.. The band also seemed to be unhappy with the levels, as they were gesturing for the FOH mixer to adjust mikes/PA's all night. And a buzzing/floating ground was droning through the whole show! :(
~ Regardless of the technical BS, when the band+Aniima were onstage and in full flight (particularly during the encore) the power of Sigur Rós live is almost frightening! My friend who saw them for the first time on Monday was in tears several times from the emotional intensity of the music! And I wasn't far behind her!
~ Being so close to the stage, I was able to really see and appreciate how hard Sigur Rós works to make their shows as great as they can! They were dealing with so many irritating details, but overcame them and put on a hell of a show! My respect for them increased immensely that night!
~ Overall, they came across as more human than I'd seen before, but more dedicated to their art and willing to go to whatever lengths they have to in order to be...Sigur Rós. I feel kind of blessed to be able to appreciate them at this point! I'm currently playing Takk and "sæglópur" just came on and I'm almost in tears again hearing it!

And without further ado...

So last night I got the coolest piece of concert clothing ever. Right next to the main t-shirt and schwag booth was an innocent looking clothing rack with a handwritten sign on it that said "handmade." I went over there (away from the gathering horde at the main booth and perused the collection of authentic, handmade, one-of-a-kind shirts. Everyone was different, some had paint splotches on them and all were cool as hell.

What was even cooler though is that the two waifish icelandic girls who do the graphics for Sigur Ros were there and were stenciling the shirts right there for you. They stencilied the concert date and "Hollywood Bowl" on the back of my shirt and sent me on my way with a bag of stickers and pins along with it.

How cool is a band that brings their designers with them to do one-of-a-kind merchandise?

the friends that took me back there were anxious not to impose and orchestrated a quick gettaway. sadly i was not able to meet the rest of the band nor even really get the chance to say how grateful i am that they are making such amazing art.

So I had a ticket drop into my lap the morning of SR's Oakland show and I was absolutely floored! This was my first chance to see them live and I was not disappointed in the least!

I wasn't expecting a warmup act, but I thought that Anima set a wonderful tone for the evening with their combination of strings and miscellaneous instruments! This was the one point of the evening that I regretted being in the upper back balcony, as it was hard to see what they were playing at times.

When Sigur Ros took the stage, the lighting effects were a perfect companion to their ghostly sounds and Anima was a wonderful addition to them. My personal highlight was the final song of the main set (the last song on ( ) as well) where the visuals and sounds were beyond description! A close second wast the song (I'm not familiar with) when the women from Anima were plucking their strings and the keyboardist finished the song playing a recorder/flute!

Very amazing stuff!

The soundtrack is most excellent, a great sample of Icelandic bands (Sigur Ros, Bjork, Mum, Johann Johannson, Bang Gang etc). You can probably find it in import.
From Sigur Ros, it contains track #8 from "()", and an amazing track called "Odin's Raven Magic", a collaboration between Steindor Andersen, Hilmar Hilmarsson, Sigur Ros and Schola Cantorum. It also has a track from Amina, the string ensemble that plays with Sigur Ros.
Like sucking God's cock. Or something

They play fewer gigs than Jesus throws "coming home" parties, their last record had no song titles and Jónsi Birgisson could walk around with "I’m the singer in Sigur Rós" stencilled on his forehead and still you’d have no idea who he was or what he did for coin. Not only that, but his band make music that sounds like elves rutting in ice castles or dragons bathing in geysers. Meanwhile, they win the award for "band least likely to break into a giggle mid-xylophone solo" with unrivalled ease. Oi! Work experience flunky! File them away in the "anonymous, glacial, misery gut muso" drawer. And shred that Oceansize review while you’re at it.

Except saying such a thing is like hearing biology teachers giving sex education lessons – there is magic woven within the facts. Tagging them so neglects the love, grace and breathless passion that this, the Icelandic quartet’s fourth album, has bolted to the girders of its monumental beauty. Choice cut 'Svo Hljótt’ sounds like the bit in Lord Of The Rings when Gandalf dies reinterpreted by operatic mythical winged beasts, while the broody ‘Glósóli’ contains more nervous system-shaving shivers than a blowjob from an "up fer it" Archangel. If you imagine the noise God makes just before he eats a slice of cheese on toast, then comparably, that’s how satisfyingly yearning the 65 minutes of 'Takk…' sounds. Ordinary people. Extraordinary songs.

Hear Iceland's stunning ambient rock group perform live from the Music Center at Strathmore in Bethesda, MD on Sunday, September 11. NPR.org will web cast the full show online beginning at approximately 8:00 PM ET. It's the latest in NPR Music's live concert series from All Songs Considered.

Sigur Ros (pronounced SIG-ger roas) is from Reykjavik, Iceland and features Jon Bor Birgisson on vocals and guitar, Kjartan Sveinsson on keyboards, Orri Paal Dyrason on drums and Georg Holm on bass. The band's music is ethereal with indecipherable lyrics sung in a language they invented. It's a sound the band says is meant to bring listeners "the beautiful landscape of their homeland." Sigur Ros is currently on tour to promote its latest CD, Takk.

The band got its name from vocalist Jon Birgisson's sister, Sigurros, who was born the same year the band formed in 1994. It translates to "Victory Rose."

We broadcast at 32kbs (with FM radio quality), and we're dial-up friendly. (In fact, I listen on dial-up with very little rebuffering.)
The below link points to the photojournal of a Ukranian motorcyclist who often visits the "Dead Zone" around Chernobyl. There is a ghost town there, and these pictures were taken at a kindergarten inside the town. Notice the items in the first picture. There is also a picture reminiscent of the video on the previous page (just change 26 to 25 in the url).
In the art/progressive rock vein I'm listening to Hollowphonic , which are pretty close to the SIgur Ros aesthetic, they bow their guitars on some tracks and have beautiful vocals. Also Do Make Say Think and Piano Magic (Go for piano magic if you like beautiful melacholy)
