You never know what's going to happen at Yucy's parties! They're always full of surprises and indeed on this night, we all Belly Danced for Life!!!
On Friday April 4, we had a fabulous party at Floyd's Bar & Grill.
For an appetizer we had an amazing set of performances by the Belly Dance for Life members:
Jennah people.tribe.net/2dced059-...5ef765161a
Trinity people.tribe.net/0b062146-...1c84c8a6ce
and Anne! people.tribe.net/492e5be7-...f3aa02ea7e
They set the stage for what was about to come. Great job ladies!
For the main course and with the demeanor of Johny Cash, the amazing Arab singer Tony Mercho and his live band gave us non stop entertainment that moved us to dance the night away with all styles of dancing that of course included a magnificent participation by the everyone for the Debke. Just when we thought there were no more surprises for the evening, the unimaginable happened.
For desert and for the highlight and twilight of the evening, the entire crowd spontaneously gathered around a certain table where the matriarch of the group was seated. The Arab singer Tony gracefully walked over to the table and handed over his microphone to this mysterious prominent member of our gathering and at that moment the room became so quiet that one could hear a pin drop. With the demeanor of Um Kalthoum, she began to sing with the most beautiful voice that can fill four ball rooms, the band accompanied her well and the crowd was moved to applaud with the loudest roar as she sang the first note of several bars from different classic Um Kalthoum songs that included INTA OMRI. Who was this mystery woman and can we have her again?
I can't wait for the next hafla!!!

Re: Let it be known that Yucy El Banan knows how to throw a pary!
Mon, April 7, 2008 - 9:14 PMYes, it was a spectacular evening!! The ladies of Belly Dance for Life, Jennah, Trinity and Anne gave beautiful performances! The band was outstanding and their choice of classical Egyptian songs was just perfect. They also really knew how to get a rise from the Palestinians and Syrians in the crowd when they played the Debke music. We all had so much fun doing it!!! (Yucy too, who was practically leading the circle)! There's no question though, that our mystery lady stole the show. Singing with her strong, theatrical voice, she touched everyone's hearts. Yucy, you outdid yourself! -

Re: Let it be known that Yucy El Banan knows how to throw a pary!
Tue, April 8, 2008 - 8:50 AMI forget the mystery woman's name, but she is the wife of a drummer who used to work in all the Arab clubs in town. He used to work for dancers such as 3ida Nour. I usually don't believe people who say that, but he's great at doing solos for dancers, so there seems to be some truth to it ;) The wife herself was a performer before she got married.
Thanks for setting up that party, Yucy! It was such a friendly environment, full of familiar faces and loads of fun. I hope I get the chance to go again soon : )
When I got to Floyd's, I realized it used to be ChiChi's many moons ago! I remembered the Arab nights Mona Ismail (allah yarhamah) would set up there. It brought back a lot of memories.
