Hi,
I am going to a workshop on We daret el Ayam in may. Has anyone got a vid with Oum Khalsoum singing it? Does anyone have the lyrics?

Re: We Daret el Ayam
Tue, April 29, 2008 - 12:18 AMfound this one. Is it good? I don't have a video though where I could listen to the song.
Daret el Ayam
(Days go by)
Om Kalsoum (translated by Nabil Gheith)
We daret el ayam
Days go by
We maret el ayam
And days passed
Mabane bead we khisam
Between distant and argument
We abelto - neseet eny khismtoh
I met him - I forgot my argument
We nesset el liel ely seharto
And forget the nights I was up
We sameht 3azab alby we Herto
And I forgive my heart pain and confusion
Ma aarafish azay ana kalemto
I don't know how I spoke to him
Ma aadarsh ala bo3ad Habibi
I can't manage to miss my lover
Ana lya meen ela Habibi
I have no one else but my lover
Aabelny we el ashwaa fi 3aneh
He met me and the passion in his eyes
Salem - we khad eady fi eadah
He shakes and took my hand in his hand
We hames li aly el Ha3a 3aleh
He mumbles and admits it's his mistake
Nesset sa3atha be3adena leh
In this moment I forgot everything
Fane demoa 3aeny ely ma namet layal
Where is my tear at nights
Be abtesama men 3ayonoh
A smile from his eye
Amer azab - we aHla azab
Sour pain and sweet pain
Azab el hop lel ahbab
The love pain to the lovers
Ma adertsh asbor yom 3ala bo3adoh
I can't be patient to miss him one day
Da el saber 3ayez saber le waHdo
Because patience needs patience
Ma aadersh 3ala boad Habibi
I can't stand missing my lover
Ana leya meen elaHabibi
I have no one but my lover
Wa safoly el saber la eatoh khayal
They describe patience = I founded imagination
We kalam fi el hop ya dop yenaal
And love words just to be said
Ahrab men alby aroh ala fane
I escape from my heart - where to
Layalena el Helwa fi kol makan
Our lovely days in everywhere
Malenaha hop aHna el atnean
Woe filled love both of us
3aeny ala el asheen
Oh, my god, for lovers
Hayara we mazlomeen - a el saber mosh adreen
Cofused and misjustice, they can't be patient
Mhadertsh asbor yom ala boadoh
I can't be patient for missing him
Da el saber ayez saber el wahdo
Because patience needs patience
Maadersh ela boade Habibi
I can't stand missing my lover
Ana lya meen el Habibi
I have no one but my lover
Daret el ayam
Days rotate
We maret el ayam
And days passed
We hal el fager ba3a el hager
Dawn came after separation
Be lonoh el wardy be yesabaH
By its reddish color - said good morning
We nor el sobeh saHa el farH
The morning light awakes the happiness
We aal llhop aom nefrah
And said to the love - wake up and be happy
Men farHety toht men el farHa
Because of my happiness I get dizzy
Men FarHtey la banam wla basHa
Because of my happiness - can't sleep or wake
We laeteny ma3a b3aeash
I found myself living with him
Fi rabe3a ma feesh kedah
In spring - Ol Lah
Bean shoa3a ma yenteheesh
Between love never finish
We shoa3a tany ebtada
and another love just started
Maadertsh asbor yom ala bo3adoh
I can't be patient for missing him
Da el saber ayez saber el waHdoh
Because patience needs patience
Maadersh ala boade Habibi
I can't stand missing my lover
Wa lya meen el Habibi
I have no one but my lover -

samira saad www.youtube.com/watch
the highlight of this song occurs at 2:40 and 5:30 which are my favorite parts of the song.
Daret el ayam (jilina of belly dance super stars version) from the "on fire" dvd and cd
www.youtube.com/watch
my favorite instrumental version especially with the solo oud at the end of the clip
There was a clip of jillina dancing to daa but it was removed.
sherine www.youtube.com/watch

Re: We Daret el Ayam
Tue, May 20, 2008 - 2:10 AMhello Badriya! Yes I like the style very much in which you dance, it looks arch-feminine! You know what, my workshop on that song did not take place so I remained without a pro's proposition of how to dance that big song! I spent the money on a costume that was on offer to comfort myself, calling it my Oum-Khalsoum-costume for it being simple and elegant. I thought about asking you may I use your ideas to get me started on that song. I am dancing only for two years and a half, I just choreograph moments in songs where it seems to tell me what I have to do, but I yet mostly depend on ideas of others. I think it is a good way of learning, I identify with your way on that particular piece of music, it feels right to me. But I don't dance for money yet, so I'm not about exploiting others.
Btw. can you answer my question, the version you dance to of Mahmoud Fadl, I can't identify the lyrics out of the original lyrics I posted... -

Re: We Daret el Ayam
Tue, May 20, 2008 - 12:39 PMThanks--feel free to use my ideas to get yourself started. I also just choreograph certain moments and leave the rest up to fate and inspiration :-)
These lines are the ones used in Mahmoud Fadl's version--most of them are repeated before moving on to the next lines:
Wa safoly el saber la eatoh khayal
They describe patience = I founded imagination
We kalam fi el hop ya dop yenaal
And love words just to be said
Ahrab men alby aroh ala fane
I escape from my heart - where to
Layalena el Helwa fi kol makan
Our lovely days in everywhere
Malenaha hop aHna el atnean
Woe filled love both of us
3aeny ala el asheen
Oh, my god, for lovers
Hayara we mazlomeen - a el saber mosh adreen
Cofused and misjustice, they can't be patient
Mhadertsh asbor yom ala boadoh
I can't be patient for missing him
Da el saber ayez saber el wahdo
Because patience needs patience
Maadersh ela boade Habibi
I can't stand missing my lover
Ana lya meen el Habibi
I have no one but my lover -

Re: We Daret el Ayam
Tue, May 20, 2008 - 12:46 PMThank you so much Badriya. I didn't mean that I spot choreograph because I am good at improvising, but because only a few places in the music tell me to do so (but the whole piece I never get done...)

-
Re: We Daret el Ayam
Tue, April 29, 2008 - 8:51 PMYes the oud player is amazing. I bought his instructional cd on maqams (the arabic scalar system). He posted oud renditions of many classics on youtube. you have to click on view 52 videos to see all his postings.

Galit, what's the possibility that you'll video tape that show and post it? I imagine it wil be a great show.
You can trust that I'm a student and have learned alot from these correspondences. Thanks ladies! -

Re: We Daret el Ayam
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 2:19 AMThere's a good possibility of me doing it! The show's not till July and the dvd (if filmed) takes a while to be made.
The idea behind the show is to give students of all levels a chance to perform on a professional stage (it's in a theatre) in front of a supportive non judgemental audience.
The level of the dancers vary from those of very little experience and skill to more advanced students.
I usually only do one dance at the show which is the last one before we start the party.
Here's a clip from last year's show posted by one of my students (I only found out it was up a couple of weeks ago).
This is the Beginners level class doing Natsha Atlas' I put a spell on you'
I'm very proud of them :)

And yes, I'm learning a lot too.

Wed, April 30, 2008 - 9:37 PMGalit great performance and awesome choice of a song! Loved it!
There used to be a youtube clip of Abdel Halim and Mohamed Abdel Wahab (with oud) each singing Daret el ayam and I can't find them. They are worth hearing.
You must hear this short clip of Daret El Ayam by Nagwa Karam. Fabulous instrumental amazing voice especially at my favorite lines at 3:25 www.youtube.com/watch
enjoy! -

Thu, May 1, 2008 - 12:48 AMMost amazing voice, very powerful (emotionally as well as vocally) especially in the 'ma-adarsh' bit - your favourite.
The audience is going wild.
Thanks for posting -

Re: We Daret el Ayam
Thu, May 1, 2008 - 2:12 PMI can't find where she starts off with the lyrics I initially posted...! -

Re: We Daret el Ayam
Thu, May 1, 2008 - 4:37 PMIt is the 11 th line and I'll copy and paste as follows:
Aabelny we el ashwaa fi 3aneh
He met me and the passion in his eyes
Salem - we khad eady fi eadah
He shakes and took my hand in his hand
CORRECTION TO THIS LINE..... saLim here means "he greets" not shakes.. the transltor probably meant shake as in "shake hands."
E: He met me and the passion in his eyes greeted me and he took my hand and [placed it] in his hand
We hames li aly el Ha3a 3aleh
He mumbles and admits it's his mistake
e: and he whispered to me and told me the fault is his
Nesset sa3atha be3adena leh
In this moment I forgot everything
e: at that moment I forgot why we parted
Fane demoa 3aeny ely ma namet layal
Where is my tear at nights
e: where is the tear that hasnt slept many nights?
In other words this question is saying: how about all those tears and my sleepless nights [that i forgot]?
Be abtesama men 3ayonoh
A smile from his eye
e:with a smile from his eyes
Amer azab - we aHla azab
Sour pain and sweet pain
e: the pain is gone- and [what] sweetest pain
Azab el hop lel ahbab
The love pain to the lovers
e: love pains for lovers
Ma adertsh asbor yom 3ala bo3adoh
I can't be patient to miss him one day
e: I couldnt be patient for an entire day
Da el saber 3ayez saber le waHdo
Because patience needs patience
e: The patience wants (needs) patience by itself.
in other workds.. you have to be patient in order to actively excercise being patient
Ma aadersh 3ala boad Habibi
I can't stand missing my lover
e: I can't bare upon the distance of my lover.
Ana leya meen elaHabibi
I have no one but my lover
Who do I have except for my lover? -

Re: We Daret el Ayam
Tue, May 6, 2008 - 2:42 AMHi, I am currently trying to find the original version with Oum Khaltoum singing. There are many clips on youtube, each time her name is written in a different spelling or in arabic letters. Here is the Mahmoud Fadl version, a woman sings on it: youtube.com/watch I absolutely cannot recognize the lyrics. Is she singing the same song?
