Where's the best place to stay for the competition? Where does everyone usually stay? Also are there other alternatives that are just as close and mid price range?

It's pretty convenient! still not walking distance though.
Another (nice) hotel is the Sierra Suites San Ramon at 2323 San Ramon Valley Blvd, San Ramon, CA 94583

hmmm, sorry about that link - try www.sierrasuites.com and then look for San Ramon CA. San Ramon is one exit down from Danville so it is still close.
There are other hotels in Pleasanton/Dublin - a couple of exits down. San Ramon/ Danville Prices can vary but I think they are mostly in the $80-$130 a night range. The hotels in Pleasanton/Dublin may be cheaper. -

Sun, November 26, 2006 - 10:00 AMI stayed at the Sierra Suites last year...it was a really nice place, but about $100 - 110 a night. I don't think there is any one place where people stay (not like Rakkasah or anything), but you could always post on here to find a roomie. :)
