Stocking up for future projects...

topic posted Sun, January 9, 2005 - 5:43 PM by  Dianne☼
I just bought a bunch of ABC blocks and mini ornaments to make a few of the little block trees to try to sell later in the year.
Do you hoard a lot of things or use them up right away? I have to say I hoard more which isn't the best thing for me as I forget what I have or that I have bought things to make something specific.

    Dianne,

you're my sistah because I definitely fall into the hoarding category. I have drawers and drawers full of crafty stuff. I actually LOVE the feeling I get when I look around my house and see the notions and wire and silk flowers and all of the bits and pieces that are so handy when your a crafty girl. The problem is I only finish my projects about 60% of the time! I guess my problem is follow through more than hoarding.

I'm interested to know what category the others here fall into?

(ps. maybe you could tell us more about the ABC block trees? Sounds cute!)

Crafty hoarders unite.........I too am a hoarder of craft things that I might use in some craft idea for the future.

I have boxes that I go thru periodically just to remember whats in there.. I have stuff that I may never use. but one day...... LOL you know how that goes.. LMAO>.

I am always looking for stuff to make new crafts.. This year I reverted back to using dried and silk flowers and potpouri, so have some of that on hand again...

I used it on my Christmas ornaments..

There's a photo of the block tree in the photo section. I made it several years ago and got it out again this past Christmas. Everyone said I should make a few to sell, so that's what I will do later on.
Finishing 60% of your crafts is great! I too have 'stuff' all over the house. I hope someday I can 'unite' it into it's own space and get busy again. It seems like the people I know who have craft rooms actually get more accomplished. I'm jealous!

Hey, yall! Sorry I've been gone so long-- I've been PUBLISHING A BOOK! www.lulu.com/keating

But, I too hoarde, mostly fabric, but I have bins for yarn, and other artsy-craftsy stuff. But I get right to then end of a project, and with like, just one more thing to do, I'll put it off forever. I have a quilt that just needs one more edge to sew on, and I've just been too lazy to do it!

          ROAR!!!!!

              Mandy,
Congrats on your new book! Sounds promising for you. I like the title too. It was my dream to write for children and I even took the Children's Institute's course about 12 yrs ago. Raising a son took up a lot of my time. Maybe I will be inspired by something, but I don't know what I could say that would be different. I was thinking about an book about an only child since both my husband and son are only kids.
Glad to hear that there are other hoarders out there.

I could send my twins to college on the value of all the fabric in my house. At least it folds flat. That is not the case with my other obsession. Baskets and cool containers. I do not wrap gifts in boxes. I use cool baskets and such (unless it is underwear). Two closets and two entire shelving units in the garage are filled with this stuff.

I am with Aminah. I want to tell my husband that everyone else does it, too.

It's so nice to know I'm not the only one out here with a hording obsession. The fun is in the planning, then buy oh how I love to buy, then it begings to wane once I'm home and have sit down and put it together. Finish is not in my vocabulary. I'm a crafter yes, but not a completer............LOL

I am a partial completer. Sometimes I obsess and work, work, work till I have several (or tons) completed. Then put it all away for awhile and start on something else.

About twice a year I go through all my projects and complete a few of the works in progress. I don't allow myself to start anything new until I have met XYZ self-imposed deadline.

Right now, I am stripping an old china cabinet that I have been working on for 10 years. Can you say procrastinate? Nothing else is getting done until all the old mud brown paint is off.
