'Crafting in July'

So are you guys going to make stuff this summer? I am thinking of all those ABC blocks and things I bought to make the mini Christmas block trees. Then I look over at my bulging bookcase full of craft books and they are screaming out for me to look through them during the dog days of summer and make things from them.
I have saved oodles of Altoids tins to cover with a personalized cross stitch piece and fill the inside with a little sewing kit, candies, etc. Any other ideas?

Hmmmm, what am I making this summer.
I just gave a pirate playdate away to my daughter's schoolmate (they're 4 & 5) so I know I'll be erecting a pirate ship and making pirate clothing.
I have also been making napkins out of large scraps of calico and other cotton prints.
Of course, I'm always making handbags. I'll have to post a pic of my latest when it comes back from Paris. I delivered it to a client before I could get a snapshot. I'm so proud of it.
And making kid's clothes, birthday presents, etc.
The coolest thing about this is that my daughter is in the "why do I need to buy something when I can just make it?" phase at 5. She's sculpting telephones and faeries out of 8.5x11 sheets of paper. Okay, I'm a proud Mom. But how cool is that!

That is wonderful about your daughter wanting to make her gifts at such a young age. I think you are setting a good example in the first place!
All the things you are doing are so neat and different.
I use to do the same kind of things with my son who is now 18. We made candles and paper and painted a lot of those little wooden things from AC Moore. He turned out to be more technical than creative. Though he do make excellent posters for presentations. I think he missed his calling of doing graphic layout. He's going to college for Metereology in the fall.

Meteorology! I would have had a fat crush on him if I went to high school with him. Haha! That's so (I hate to use such a cliche) out of the box! It's just different.

And on the art thing - I truly believe that we're all born artists.

Thanks so much for your encouragement and support. Sometimes my confidence gets roped into a cave.

LOL-actually meteorology is a big thing these days, esp at this one school where Sean applied and didn't get into. One of his pals is taking it at Cornell and Sean will be at Penn State (an annex) near here.

You have every right to be a proud mom.. thats really great that your daughter feels that way.

I'm just gonna be painting for the summer.. I may end up making a full buckskin coat, but don't know yet. The patron is in Alaska at the moment..so should be getting back soon.. We'll see.......

Until then.. I'm painting more satalite dishes, saw blades and possibly a canvas..who knows.. the possibilities are endless..

      BTW.. your handbags are wonderful.

Oooh. Buckskin. Are you going to post a pic? What kind of machine are you using? I busted 3 leather needles on my last project and was in fear of breaking the last before I finished. Boy, deadlines really either inspire or destroy creativity. I'm uncertain there's any middle ground there.

Learning though I am that the strength of the machine's motor counts for a lot.

So, do you sell your painted items? I remember seeing the saw blade and feeling jealous that I didn't think of that. I loved it.

Sigh. So many crafts, so little time.

Oh, thanks for the handbag feedback!
