I had never heard of, let alone seen one of these before until last weekend when we went up to Rainbow Beach, Inskip Peninsula (south-east Queensland Australia) for a long romantic weekend away.
On top of a cliff is this HUGE expanse of sand that is gradually being moved inland by the elements over hundreds of years, gradually engulfing the forest and anything else that lies before it. It made me think of a glacier, except it's sand and it's moving inland. This one was named Carlo Sand Blow by Captain Cook after one of his crew when he discovered it back in 1700 & something.
I've posted some photos at our tribe photo place. Hard to do something so large justice, but have a look anyway. :)
Any of you been to or heard of Sand Blows?

The only other place that I have heard about sand blows is somewhere in Africa where they are losing land to sand...not sure where though?
It looks very beautiful but not if you are trying to grow anything!
Not a great place to wear eye contacts either...lol! -
