hey! welcome to wonderful world of bookkeeping! thanks for hanging out - please e-me and let me know you have joined. this is the first tribe that i have moderated and i am not sure how it works. i figure there is a use for it - i socialize with a bunch of other bookkeepers and we always seem to have funny or horrific stories to share. here's the place to do it!

    Hey Andrew,
Good to meet you - Thanks for starting this Tribe -

I'm an independent Quickbooks bookkeeper in the CA Bay Area (San Jose area) and am one of those "funny" people who actually like playing with paperwork and numbers. Nothing better than when all is reconciled and matched up. I know so many people who really don't like all that detail, but I guess that's what keeps people like me busy! At least it keeps my "left brain" as busy as I can stand it!

My client base is a bit diverse and my job at each one varies. I also "don't do taxes"! (is that like saying "I don't do windows!"?)

    What about you?

hey donna! welcome to the tribe. i am also independent with a primary focus on professional service providers (psp). most of my clients are lawyers and i have one design firm and two non-profits. i also make myself available for emergency situations and forensic work - i find both pretty lucrative! the software i manipulate, pclaw, is industry specific but is becoming more and more popular with other psps. the reporting options and versatility of the software makes it very useful. there are not many bookkeepers in the toronto area that can manipulate the software and are familiar with provincial trust accounting regulations. i have been lobbying a local community college to offer this type of course with little success.

i totally understand the sense of reconciled and matched up and tickety-boo - i get a real sense of satisfaction from having everything in order and nicely filed away. i think that is why i like the forensic work - walk into a mess and work at getting it all cleaned it up. some of the projects i have worked on have presented interesting challenges.

saying i don't do taxes is very much like not doing windows!

does you practice have any psps? do you work at cleint's offices or do you work out of home?
