Deer hunting

You may not know this, actually as bears you probably do, but... deer kill more people than cougars, bears and all other wild animals put together.

I got the call after first Friday night at 10:30 ish that Bear Naked.. AKA John was unconscious after impacting and killing a deer on his Honda 1350 on his way home. He came around when a man also named John, from Portland came upon the accident. He was alive and I was grateful. Grateful to a stranger and all of the guardian angels that were with us.

I was still downtown with Jiggy & Huggy so I beat the ambulance to the hospital. The ambulance guys had cut off his leathers, taped his helmet to the board and taken care of him. Grateful.

They did tests and scans and determined that aside from the road rash, gouges and two broken teeth, his body and brain were in tact and they got to take off the neck brace. The kids got a ride home with Wendy, the ER intake nurse, who lives up the road from us, and I stayed for about 4 more hours, until they moved him up to a room and I determined that I would not get rest if they were waking him up every hour. Oh and my son needed me at home to be reassured. I slept a solid four and a half hours and then woke up and couldn't get back to sleep. Got a sub for Monday and Tuesday, forgot to make coffee or breakfast and headed back down to 208. I stayed for a while, until a coworker showed, and I took off to get some staples for the cupboards and get some more rest and get Huggy to her date for prom. (a different date and a different dress than last year)

Bear Naked has a bit of recovery ahead. They found a couple of small bones, one in the ankle, one in the elbow, that are floating around, a couple of snaggle teeth, four or five gashes that will just have to heal including a couple on his lip and a frisbee golf driver size of road rash where the four layers of protection slid up. Two nurses gave him a sponge bath to get the sand and gravel out. I wasn't there but I know he had a shot of morphine before and it still ruined his fantasy of two women in the shower with him.

I got home an hour ago with something to eat and our friends on my mind. He's probably coming home tomorrow if he can stand up without getting dizzy. If he can't then they'll do another CT to make sure they didn't miss something. We love you all, and know that you will be sending him prayers/thoughts/light and we are so thankful to be able to receive them. Scarey leaves and recovery takes over.

He may take up deer hunting this season.

    Hi everyone!
I'm still alive and kicking, though not kicking very hard.
Concussion, two broken teeth, lots of road rash (even though I was fully leathered) a broken elbow and a broken foot.
Considering the condition of the deer, I fared pretty well.
THANK YOU for all your love and healing energy. I most definatly felt it. Now it's time to nap. I have dancing to do later this summer!!
    I love you guys.

Glad it was only as bad as it was, and congrats on outliving the deer!

Road rash has got to be one of the more painful variations on shrapnel. Sorry you had to experience it (again?)!

Big hugs to the whole family. Time to breathe deep and feel the love. I like it when angels catch us so softly.

Someone told me once that deerskins are really good rugs to sit on when you meditate. Helps you conserve your energy, or something like that. Let me know if you have any to spare or trade later in the Fall.

          Much love,
          Bare-It (aka me)
