The flip-flopping attempts by confused Air Force personnel to discredit the witnesses failed in light of FAA radar reports. In April, the proposed ballot initiative to create an Extraterrestrial Affairs Commission in Denver started another global media blast.
Enter another place and time where world fusion bellydance company, NATIUM World Dance, known for Improvisational Tribal and Modern Fusion Bellydance, hosts Bohemian Cabaret Danse de Cirque Bellydancers, Tramps and Freaks.
This showcase of talent takes place August 16th 2008 at The Sets, in Tempe Arizona at 93 East Southern Ave, East of Mill.
As audience members wander in they are greeted with sights, sounds and scents evocative of exotic destinations, worlds away, and of times forgotten. From the lavish decorations of other countries and times in history, to the enticing sounds of worlds coming together under one roof, audiences will feel as though traveling to mysterious, foreign lands or eras long past. Wander through the mini bazaar to barter, haggle and bid on unique objects d’arte from artisans, vagabonds and tramps.
Bohemian Cabaret Danse de Cirque Bellydancers, Tramps and Freaks is brought to you and created by the same brainchild of Phoenix’s successful Romantasy Cababret, Lucy Morals. Her vision this time involves more of the dancing (who doesn’t like dancing girls!?) and brings you a unique showcase of cutting edge performance, bellydance tableaus, and theatrical dance entertainment. A blend of various aspects of vaudeville, historical and theatrical dance and saucy stage revues will bring Phoenix a unique entertainment event of the
summer.
Behold the mysticism of bellydance, the dangers of fire dance, the temptations of burlesque and the art of theatrical dance numbers as groups from around Arizona, Nevada and California come together to entertain you.
Prepare to enjoy 3 hours of entertainment followed by an after-show cast and crew dance party. After the show, we open up the dance floor for all to take part in the after party soiree. Performers from the show come out to dance and mingle with the audience and to do a meet and greet. The showcase becomes a party for all to participate.
This event is for people 21 and over only, as the venue serves liquor. Come hungry too as the menu has tasty treats from appetizers to delicious grilled burgers.
Gratuities and tips are always appreciated. Door proceeds will benefit Amazing Aussies at www.amazingaussies.com . Several raffles will be held throughout the night and raffle ticket sales will also be donated to Amazing Aussies. This is an organization Natium has benefited at past events to help the group fostering, adoptions, buying supplies, medical aid and educating the public about for these special Australian Shepherd dogs.

The MECDA chapter is now taking reservations for performance spots on the festival stage. We will have ongoing entertainment from 10:30am to 5:00pm - that's a lot of dancing - come be part of it!

Soloists 5 minutes
Duet/Trio 10 minutes
Troupes 4+ 15 minutes

There will also be 7 drop-in workshops presented by instructors from throughout the state. Please check here for more info:
www.levantalsonora.com

We also need people to volunteer to help with admissions, stage managing and workshop helpers - this can be just a 1 or 2 hour stint during your day and will be greatly appreciated. It takes a LOT more than the 4 members of the MECDA chapter board to run an event like this!

To reserve a spot and/or volunteer please email president@levantalsonora.com.

Thanks,
I highly recommend taking this workshop. Jon is an incredible prop artist and AZ is very fortunate to have him here willing to pass on his knowledge of poi!

Friday, March 7 - w/Alien Jon & assistant Tricia: $40 covers both classes
•	6-7:00 Fundamental forms of modern poi $20 - Covers fundamental poi concepts, exercises, and poi scales. Indispensable for the beginner, fill in holes for intermediate spinners, and give advanced spinners a chance to delve deeply into the foundation that makes all advanced moves easy to learn and flow with.
•	7-8:00 Advanced Poi and technical concepts $30 - Covers an advanced model and understanding of the spin zones around the human body so that you can spin anywhere in any orientation including behind the head and back or under the legs. This also includes inside planes and inswings in between the arms all around the body. Further exploration in the body and poi relationships as time sculpture: tracing geometry through time. This yields incredible feelings and unbelievable visual effects for your audience. For the uber-advanced we can cover 'Composite' spinning: pattern construction using independent control of each hand/poi. For example advanced hybrids.

Enter another place and time where world fusion bellydance company, NATIUM World Dance, known for blending various world dance flavors with bellydance, hosts Bohemian Nights, A bellydance cirque. This showcase of talent takes place in 2008 at _________, in Tempe Arizona.
As audiences wander in they are greeted with sights, sounds and scents evocative of exotic destinations, worlds away, and of times forgotten. From the rich looking textiles and decorations from other countries, to the sounds of worlds coming together under one roof, audiences will feel as though traveling to mysterious, foreign lands. Wander through the mini bazaar to barter, haggle and bid on unique objects d'arte from artisans and vagabonds.

Each Bohemian Nights showcase kicks off with a free mini bellydance lesson to familiarize the audience with this art form and to incite excitement for the dance jam later. Then, Bohemian Nights becomes a two hour-long showcase of dancers, ranging from student performers showing off what they've learned in classes, to semi-professionals desirous of more exposure, to special professional dancer guest stars who will light up the night. Some performers will dance with props such as swords, Chinese fans, fire, veils, skirts and more. After each event, the dance floor opens up for all dancers, whether in the show or in the audience, to get up and take part in an open-floor bellydance soiree, into the night. Performers from the show come out to dance and migle with the audience and to do a meet and greet. The showcase becomes a party for all to participate.

These events are for 21 and over crowds only, as the venue serves liquor. Come hungry too as the menu has tasty treats from appetizers to delicious grilled burgers.

A portion of ticket sales will be donated to a charity or used to benefit a local business selected by NATIUM World Dance, with a different charity or business selected for each show. Raffle tickets sold will also benefit these select organizations, with all proceeds donated to that charity or business. Gratuities and tips are always appreciated, a portion of which may also be donated to the charity or business selected as well.

Run away with the belly-cirque!

I know the members of the troupe seem to rotate so it's usually not the same faces twice, but each time, the show is fab. From just the dancing, to the swords, to the snake, to the swords on fire, to the fire dancing....geez... is there anything you gals don't do?
GOOD NEWS: We are working on a plan to offer a limited number of the workshops a second time at a studio next door to The Mystic Jewell. If you are dying to take a workshop that has sold out, let us know by signing up on our hotlist:

www.mysticjewell.com/boomboo...list.asp

If you let us know what you want to take we will let you know first when it comes avaliable again, but PLEASE do this using the hotlist link on the website. Don't e-mail us, we are FLOODED with e-mails!

Also, we have a change in the workshop line-up. On Sunday, Oct 7th, the Zafira Sword Workshop at 11am-1pm has been changed to a Shimmy workshop! Yay for shimmies! Due to space limitations with swords, we’ve decided to change it up and offer a workshop that allows for more dancers to sign up.

Here’s the Shimmy Workshop Description, and you KNOW you want to take it! Who can resist SHIMMIES?!!

3/4 Shimmies!

Take your shimmies to the next level! In this workshop we will cover the classic 3/4 shimmy, with walking, layering exercises and drills. We will also take the 3/4 shimmy to parts of our bodies you never knew were supposed to 3/4 shimmy!

We will cover 4/4 shimmies as well to better understand and get better control of our hips.

To finish off our workshop we'll cover some unique combos utilizing what we learned, Zafira style!

Please bring water and a yoga mat for warm up & cool down.

If you want to take the shimmy workshop I suggest you sign up quick as this one is right around the corner from selling out too!

See you all soon!!

Hey everybody... our MECDA chapter is planning a celebration of our first year. Here's what we have in mind.....
An all day picnic at Papago Park at the ramada near the lake tentatively set for the first Sunday in Nov., including all day performances - as many as we can get - on the ampitheater stage. It's a beautiful setting and we'd like it to be a very relaxed community gathering.

The stage is about 20 x 20 but in a hexagonal shape. I think it could accomodate groups of up to 5. We'd like to the lineup to reflect the diversity of styles we have in the community and therefore want to include as many of our AZ dancers as possible.

The preliminary plans have been checked out. What we need is to know that the community is willing to come out and dance and participate. There will be no admission, but donations to defray the cost of the event will be accepted. Before we put down the money on the event and invest our time in more planning, we'd like to know that people are interested in coming out and supporting it.

In addition to dancers, we'll need some volunteers both in preparation and on the day of the event. The park has power for a sound system, but we a system to plug into it for amplified performance music. It would have been nice to include live music but the park rules don't allow live amplified music :-( - damn! I'm not sure if that excludes acoutstic instruments.

So what do you think?

Right here, right now, The White Claws are introducing the Second Annual Drum or Cash Contest. The prize is either an Alexandria doumbek (your choice of color) or $100 in cash to buy belly dance stuff (or whatever you want... but I’d like to think that it was belly dance stuff). Any dancer that is worth her salt should own a drum, and everybody can use $100. How do you win? It’s easy, just answer the questions below... all 120 + of them. Then submit your answers by the deadline and await the results. Ah, but there are rules... and they are as follows:

The deadline for submitting answers is June 30th (meaning a submission dated at midnight... July 1st, is late and will be ignored). You may only submit answers once!!!!!! Hence, once you submit your answers, you are done. You must be 18 years old to participate (legal stuff). Answers are to be submitted privately to Drumopelli on Tribe. Do not post them (that would be stupid). You must be a member of the White Claws Tribe to participate! If you aren’t already... well, find us and getter done! White Claws members and Natium members (and anyone closely associated with either group, whether in the past or present) are ineligible to participate for obvious reasons, if not the sole reason of: Because I say so! (and it’s my money...that’s why I can say so :P)

History: The mean score of the first contest was 65%. Scores ranged from 30% to 92%. Those in the 70 percentile range stood a hell of a chance... until two people submitted their answers at the last minute (Shirley and Roni), scoring in the upper 80’s and lower 90’s respectively. Roni won... and we had to buy her her choice of djembes. We did, and now she is a part of our group. I think Shirley submitted her answers at 11:58pm, 2 minutes before the cut off. She did it on purpose. Actually, they both did it on purpose... others thought they had it in the bag, only to be crushed at the last minute (literally). See how you people are? Anyway, last year about 20 people participated and the contest was only held and promoted on the White Claws site. This year, it is open to most everyone, hence this post.

Hints for success:

Don’t be hasty. Those that submitted early scored, on average, 30 points lower than those that took their time.

Remember, you can only submit answers ONCE! All other submissions are null and void, and I will probably make fun of you if you try... actually, I will make fun of you if you try. It’s called “read the directions” and last year, at least three people didn’t.

On the DL: Don’t let others know that you are participating in the contest. If they knew you were participating, why the hell would they ever help you or divulge any information (WC answers and subjective answers).

Ask questions! Be discreet!

Cheat your ass off! Last year, people e-mailed me or called me and blatantly asked for answers... which I gladly gave them. This year, don’t even try approaching me for answers. However, feel free to ask other WC members. E-mail them, call them, what have you... they aren’t even aware that this contest is taking place. They may help you... at least until they figure it out (then you're screwed).

Pay attention: Periodically, I will most likely (depending on mood) make posts to various sites (WC, AZ Belly dancers, etc.) in which an answer to a question is given outright. I did the same thing last year and can’t tell you how many people missed them. Oh, well...

Most of the questions are multiple-choice. Some are short answer. When submitting your answers, list the number of the question and the letter (or short answer(s)) only. Example:

1. A
2. B
3. C
4. G
5. Bubble-gum

Most questions are worth 1 point. Some questions are worth 2 points (and they are noted as such). Subjective questions are just that... subjective. You have to guess what MY answer is (your answer or opinion doesn’t matter). Subjective questions may or may not be numbered. There are 120 numbered questions, 10 of which are worth two points. Then, there are various unnumbered (subjective) questions throughout the survey, usually at the end of a section. Basically, there are 136 pts to be had. Your score will be determined by dividing the number of points for correct answers divided by 136... to get a percentile score.

Subjective questions: Is that fair? Nope! And, in case you haven’t figured it out yet, neither is life. So, don’t bring me whine unless you got some cheese to back it up.

Why subjective questions? Well, because 75% of the questions can be researched if you’re not completely lazy. There had to be an “x” factor. In many cases, you have to figure me out (by cheating as described above). Besides, I just want to know what you people think.

Many of the questions have comical, insulting, or smart-ass answers. These are usually (but not always) wrong. I can’t tell you how many people lost last year because they just couldn’t find it in themselves not to be a smart-ass. Point: There’s a lot of bait out there. Don’t be a stupid fish.

Some questions (maybe three) may have more than one correct answer, however, in every question, you should be looking for the MOST correct answer. Hence, no sympathy for you.

The answers to all subjective questions have already been made by myself and e-mailed to various other people (so I can’t cheat or change my mind). I run an honest game (except for the fact that you all are going to cheat... at least if you want to win).

OK, if any of you find a flaw in a question, bring it to my attention post haste and I will correct it and repost the questions. This did happen twice last year. I’m fairly confidant that the questions for this year are solid.

Why? Good question. It’s all about promotion. The WC tribe gets more members (maybe even more fans). The WC MySpace site might even grow. We make new acquaintances and friends and network (that is why you are encouraged to contact WC members... they may know the answers to many of the subjective questions because I’ve known them for twenty years and they would all sell me out for a biggie fries at Wendy’s). It’s also just for fun.

So this contest is my insertion of purpose into Tribe... something positive... something to do. I poke fun and I challenge. I ask opinions and I hope to make things light (in an abrasive manner). It’s for fun people... and there’s a prize too... and God forbid you actually learn something. So take the survey. I’ve extended a hand of friendship to all of you. All you have to do is reach back... and the world becomes a little more friendly.

Just posting a reminder that The Mystic Jewell Studio in collaboration with OvermindWorks is having our Aura event this Saturday, May 12th.

This is a very unique event that gives the bellydance community an opportunity to hang out, socialize and dance without the pressure or constraints of a performance or venue. It is simply The Mystic Jewell's way of providing a really cool laid back club like atmosphere with some fabulously bellydanceable tunes so us girls (and guys) can just hang out and dance! Absolutely everyone is welcome, we want to encourage the networking and community spirit of bellydancers everywhere. We are, after all, sisters (and brothers!) in dance. Bellydance tunes from 7-10pm, transitions to bellytrance for those brave souls thereafter. :) The music is also perfect for poi... spinners welcome!
(this is the vet that said she's the softest cat she's ever petted!).
she's looking for a new home because she really prefers not to be around other cats and dogs and we have waaaaay too much of a farm going on here at my house. I love her tons but have realized that if she can find a calmer home, she'd be much happier. If you're looking for a super duper sticky sweet cat who will purr her little heart out for you, Bella's the one!

We have had organizational difficulties in getting our MECDA chapter started and are in need of much help to get things rolling. We had committed to a November 3rd Dance Show/Fashion Show but now find ourselves without the participation of two of our four officers to help steer this event.

We NEED lots of immediate help to keep this commitment to the local dance community and make our chapter a reality beyond its existence on MECDA Central's paperwork. We understand that everyone's lives are very busy but even a small amount of volunteering can help this go forward.
The event is Friday November 3rd 7:30 pm at Layali Restaurant - see my Tribe page for full details.

Hi there everyone!! I am so excited to announce that the workshops with Zoe are taking place on September 2nd, 2006. That is only in a couple of weeks. Zoe dances with the Belly Dance Superstars and The Indigo. This workshop is going to be amazing!! It will be a 4 hour workshop with a 2 hour lunch break to enjoy shopping, eating at any of the wonderful restaurants down on 4th Avenue, or just hanging out and getting to know people. We are holding the workshop at the Anjali studio on 4th Avenue again, but this time we have a stage for Zoe so that she can be seen by all dancers.

Here is a description from Zoe:

"My focus as a dancer and teacher is first and foremost expression, something that can't really be taught, as it is individual to each one of us, but can be facilitated with strong technique and the right environment. Fluidity of movement, and the ability to use the simplest move to connect with the audience, are things I think every student can work on, but of course I think that there is a place for wowing them with crisp pops and multi-layering!

In the workshop dynamics of motion will be studied (aka not throwing everything out all at once, but holding back a little), and posture, upper body awareness from the shoulders all the way to the fingertips. The workshop will begin with deep stretching and exercises for strengthening, isolations, and of course, lots of drills ....don't forget water and a yoga mat! Kicks and spins will be highlighted, spot turns, paddle turns, and initiating a turn with virtually any part of the body."

Registration forms, paypal links, and more info can be found at azardance.com/classeszoe.html

For more info on Zoe visit her website at www.bellydancezoe.com/ or on Tribe at tribes.tribe.net/zoe

I have discovered this tribal event is on in La while I am on holiday in AZ, I was wondering if anyone was going?
I have to admit it but I am scared of going alone:(
terrified of driving on the wrong side of the road, after having a nearly 3 year break. On quiet country lanes with on two lanes (sometime one).
