Are there any mod clubnights in LA?
I don't mean "retro 60's" music events, but more "Mod"... with soul, ska, vespas, and the whole aesthetic?

Sat, November 22, 2003 - 8:44 AMI am promoting Goldfingers in Hollywood. I am gearing it towards scooter enthusiests. I have dj's and live acts. Unfortunately there aren't alot of mod bands locally but there are good ska and street punk bands tho. Lili, if you guys just moved here drop me a message and i'll try to fill you in on the local scene. There is also a club 45 thing in Hollywood as well. The scene is out there and would sure love more support. I have a 74 Rally 200 and building an sx 200. Cheers -

Re: Mod clubs in LA?
Wed, September 8, 2004 - 12:58 PMI should think Los Angeles was more of a "kitsch" retro scene, in fact, than a sincere attempt to pay homage, much less to carry the torch. You know: Bettie Page, swing bands, monster movies, etc. All good stuff, to be sure, but not Mod by a country mile. I haven't lived there in many a year so I am not willing to bet I'm right, but I would think Mod stuff would go over bigger in San Diego or San Fran. San Diego, in fact, used to have a Mod-themed cable-access show in the early Nineties, which I dimly recall was called something like "Something's Happening"---hosted by a perfect replica of a Carnaby Street girl and her male colleague; they interviewed people like Kim Fowley, and what have you, talked about 45's and so forth. I think her comment was "Strange that I have to live here to be in England during the sixties," which charmed me to my very innermost core.
