Re: Movie Suggestions for Mods
Mon, June 21, 2004 - 6:03 PMYes, CQ is quite good, very on-the-mark, even though it takes place literally a month before the Sixties end to just after the Seventies begin, it has all the requisite visual and stylistic trappings. My major complaint with the production is that the lead actor is too brooding and somber for the subject matter, but maybe that was the point. The film-within-a-film is hilarious, too, a Swinging Sixties/Elvis Presley-esque look at life in the year 2001, and decidedly taking a non-Kubrick approach to it, to say the very least: supermodel spy vamps her way onto the moon to defeat a Che Guevara-wannabe revolutionary (played by the always interesting Billy Zane, especially bizarre here). Roman Coppola, son of Francis, directed. Joe Bob says check it out. -

Re: Movie Suggestions for Mods
Thu, July 1, 2004 - 5:35 PMThe Knack And How To Get It was directed by Richard Lester and came out between his helming A Hard Day's Night and Help. Antonioni's Blow Up feature the Yardbirds as the band in the club and Austin Powers cut from this whole cloth all of his photographer shtick. It's not specifically Mod but the original Bedazzled w/Peter Cook and Dudley Moore is outrageous
and highly recommended.
