any advice...

for a girl about to leave college in december?

I'm starting to feel the cold breath of real life on the back of my neck and it's starting to really wig me out.

So....any advice on getting job experience (esp. in an art field) or just ways to relax and not let the anxiety get to me? I'm a bag of stress right now....

    hi jesse,
i have found temping a great way to get job experience. sorry to hear that you're feeling anxious and stressed. kudos for reaching out. i find that to be a huge stress reliever in itself. just to remember we're not alone... some of my favorite stressbusters/tension tamers are: chamomile tea at night, lavendar essential oil in the diffuser at night (or in the bath), watching comedies and laughing myself silly, spending quality time with friends (including my animal friends), and spending time near moving water. exercise also helps - besides dance (which is my fave), i love to take long walks. hope some of this helps...
    sending you big hugs,
    masani and birdies

When i'm really worried about something a saying comes to mind..."remember, worrying is praying for what you DON'T want to happen." It just helps me remember the amount of control that I have over my own future & to trust that the universe will take care of me if I let it.

Try not to worry my sweet...I love you & am sure it will be fine :)

          just breathe!

get your portfolio ready..and it's ok to have differently "geared" portfolios depending on where you might be applying. (ex: if you want to be a wedding photog you probably don't need studio still life pics...but if you want to do product photog then wedding pics don't seem all that necessary) it works the same for painting, illustration, and graphic design, etc as well. put it online.

if that isn't happening trying working at art supply stores, galleries, framing, or volunteer and get to know the patrons...you be surprised who maybe looking for help in their business that is right up your alley. join critique groups, art clubs, whatever to help keep you inspired and creating and more importantly making connections. learn how to market yourself. you are your own best horn tooter :O)

it's ok to work the sh*t jobs once in a while to support your "art habit"...we've all done it :O)

just a few random tips hope it helps.
good luck and keep on creating...from one fellow art school grad to another
