DONT FORGET
NOMADIC NIGHTS starts this Sunday. If you can make it we will be jaming, dancing and sharing different styles of music and hopefully dance. I would eventually like to bring some story tellers in to share.

For those still confused, or maybe you think you have it figured out:

I am creating this "music jam" as an opportunity for people to not only play and dance as an expression of themselves, but also to share their culture, story, or style. We all come from diverse places. We all are influenced by different aspects of music, dance, and cultures. Although these differences exist, music and dance unifies us in the human experience.

How does the jam begin for the musician?
1. Acknowledge that our musicianship is at different levels.
2. Open our minds to playing music with people who play different than us.
3. Be patient for the musical "chemistry" to come forth. With gentle structure it will!
4. Match musical key (by ear for those that don't read music and by scale for those who do read music).
5. Everyone (melody instruments and percussion) begins the designated rhythm.
6. Continue rhythm as we go around the room one time and give everybody a chance to improv and come back to the rhythm. This may feel boring but it is actually creating a fount for the chemistry to flow.
7. The session now becomes a vessel for free form music to be expressed. If you feel drawn to add or subtract from the continuous rhythm do so freely.

How does the jam begin for the dancer?
1. The beginning will be open dance for the dancers.
2. Do what ever feels good...or bad (what ever is your pleasure).
3. Express yourself.

What next?
1. We will carry on the beginning jam style for as long as it flows.
2. We will then transition to a sharing time. This will be a time for anyone who wants to solo their style for the group, educate a little bit about their specialty, or read/slam/recite some poetry or story.

And then?
1. Last we will attempt to jam around one specific style of music each week. This is depending on who is there and what styles are shared. This portion of the session will be played by ear.

Hope to see you all there.
One Love
