I just moved back to Huntsville after being gone for a few years. I took bellydance classes and performed twice (class choreographies) in Orlando with Suspira (www.orlandobellydance.com). I want to get back into classes up here now that we're getting settled, but I'm not sure what class(es) to go to. Suspira offered levels 1, 2, 3, 4, and Master class. After level 3 students had the option to audition for her student or professional troupes. I was in the middle of level 4 when I moved a few weeks ago, but I didn't audition because I couldn't have been in any of the troupes anyway. Also, I am about 12 weeks pregnant, so I wanted to see whether and for how long you allow pregnant dancers in your classes.
Thoughts?
Thanks!

Re: Class question
Sun, June 29, 2008 - 6:27 PMWelcome back to Huntsville and Congrats on your pregnancy!
As for classes, your best bet is to check out the classes at Nomadic Tapestry (formerly known as The Studio) in Huntsville. There is a basics class happening every Monday through Thursday from 5:30 - 6:30. The beyond basics classes are normally held in the 6:45 to 7:45 timeframe and there is one on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Nomadic Tapestry is located at 1219 B&C Jordan Lane, catty-corner across the street from Chuck-E-Cheeses - a landmark you will know definitely once your child is old enough to want pizza and games.
As for dancing while pregnant - that really depends on how you feel. I pretty much stopped officially performing when I didn't feel comfortable getting into the outfits for a performance. But, we pretty much agree that if you are having a normal pregnancy and are not high-risk, you can dance up to delivery! Lisa has a couple stories of people taking class one night and delivering the next morning - but I don't think that she was the actual teacher in those circumstances. You and your doctor will be the ultimate decision makers, though.
Once again, congrats and I hope to see you in class sometime! -

Re: Class question
Mon, June 30, 2008 - 5:22 PMThanks for the help! I'll plan to make it next Tuesday or later on this week -- we've got family plans tomorrow night and some other post-moving things we have to take care of still this week. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone!
