Hooping 101

Hooping is a fun way to boost stamina, metabolism, and weight loss. Hooping is way more fun than the hula hooping you remember as a child, because the bigger and heavier the hoop, the slower it rotates around your body (making it easier for people of all shapes, sizes, and ages to do it).

About me:
After 6 years of solo belly dance and in desperate need of new inspiration, I turned to hula hooping. I was almost 200 lbs and depressed with hubby being gone to Iraq for a year. I had recently added Hoop girl (Christabel Zamor) to my friends list in Tribe.net and decided to check her out. I was floored at how cool and fun it looked. So I preceded to go to wal-mart and buy a kids hoop to try out. After learning the basic rotation and traveling, I realized I needed a better hoop, because I was hooked and wanted to learn more. So I bought a bigger, slightly heavier, easier hoop from hoopshine.com and looked up tricks and moves from hooping.org and youtube. I began to learn more and more tricks, some out of accident but it worked. Three to four months later I found myself 40 lbs lighter and inspired. Here I bring it to you to try. Smile and have fun!

Schedule:
8:00 am- 9:30 am Registration/shopping
9:30am -11:00 am Getting started
-Getting acquainted with your hoop (warm-up rotations)
-Easier, effortless ways to the basic rotation
-Traveling with the hoop
-Learning Basic Tricks: Beam me up, booty bump, shoulder isolation and easy hand isolation.

11:00am-12:30pm Lunch
12:30-2:30 Review of basic tricks
-Hoopercize (take a hoop, add some dance, add some exercise, and have a whole lot of fun!)

7:00-Hoopla! (Hoop Hafla)

Costs:
$20 for workshop
$30 workshop package (includes a hoop to take home)

There will be enough hoops for everyone to use as well as for sale. All you need to bring is comfy clothes, your best pair of tennis shoes, an open mind, and a smile.

What kind of hoop is included? I have one I got for Christmas last year and wondered if I needed to bring it or if the one you provide would be better. Mine could be distracting, though, because it has lights in it when it gets moving. :)

it depends, if it's from wal-mart or toys r us, it will be difficult for what we're doing. my hoops are bigger, easier, and wrapped in fun tapes to make the hoops stick to your hips better and again, make it easier. i'll also have "fitness hoops" that are even fatter and heavier for faster fat burning. if you're more interested in excercise, you'll want a heavier hoop, if you're more interested in hoopdance, you'll want a medium weight hoop that's bigger in diameter to make it easier to execute tricks. if people want to buy their own hoops beforehand, here's a few sites i know of that carry them: hoopshine.com, hoopgirl.com, and hooprama.com

it's not really necessary to buy a hoop before, i'll have plenty just like them, but some may wanna go ahead and buy one and play around a little.

guess I'll play with mine at home until the workshop and then pay the extra $10 to get one of yours for extra workout and better executing of cool tricks. Sounds like fun.

it's actually a pretty good deal to get the workshop with hoop included cause then they're only $10, otherwise they'll be $12 for regular and $22 for the fitness hoop (not included with workshop, offered seperately only). if you buy one online you'll be paying about $30 just for a hoop plus shipping. and it is very very fun and with proper diet can shoot your metabolism way up (it did mine). it also just plain feels good.

I played with someone's hoop while at TribO this year. Much fun, but I need a heavier one than what I have. My cat does like mine, though since it flashed pretty lights. Yeah, like I needed flashing lights. You think being an epileptic I would have had the sense to avoid that combo ...

hahaha, yeah i suppose flashing lights can be a problem. i have some professional LED hoops but they cost me $105 each, but hey, they don't flash.

I bought a hoop online from Hoopgirl and YEP, I paid way more than what you are offering through the class. Ah well...I reckon I'm worth it! =)

I am going to be coming to the class, and might be bringing Carlie as well! She's excited about seeing you again, and I haven't even mentioned the hooping class! She went to P Liz's class last night at the Studio. We had a good time.

Looking forward to it, even though I may not be able to attend the Hoofla...lol..

                Later!
