So the lovely Jivete emailed me a link on how to make dreads (as in dreaded hair). i am going to make some for myself, but then wondered if i should make extra to sell? would anyone be interested in a set of dread falls? the ones i've seen for sale normally cost around $100, sometimes a bit more or a bit less depending. or on dreads in the yarn falls maybe? rather than braided hair?

just wondering.

So, after a few brief emails with Bellatrix, I realize maybe not everyone knows exactly what "dreads" are. by dreads, i mean "dreaded" hair. as in dread locks. i actually have made dread falls before, but they did not turn out as good as i hoped. they eventually came "un" dreaded. the method i used for sealing them did not work as well as i hoped. sooooooo.......now i am going to try Jivetes way! if they turn out good, i may sell them. i did not list an exact price, because i was not sure how much to sell them for. i figured i would base it on how much cost and labor went into them and how much our customers were will to pay for them! :)
Dread falls are somewhat like our yarn falls except ......no yarn. just hair. AND i am going to try doing them two ways. some on lace and some on elastic bands. The best hair i have heard of to use, is synthetic hair called kankelon (i could be mis spelling it tho). the reason you DON'T want to use human hair is .....well loads of reasons. Human hair, or even a human hair blend, is more expensive. will not melt (that is essentially what you do to seal it which keeps it from "un" dreading). and is kind of pointless. mainly because you would use human hair to achieve a more realistic, natural look AND because you can wash/curl/flat iron/etc it. kinda silly to use it for dreads since you wouldn't be curlin' 'em. Anyway, you basically rat the hell out of some synthetic hair, twist til your fingers bleed (not really! ew!), and seal it.
voila-kick booty lookin (with some practice anyway) dreads.
as far as i can tell, short ones are normally 25-35 per one set-not pair. medium 35-45 per one set. long seems to jump from 50-60. so about 100-120 per pair. depending on thickness, about 20-25 dreads appears to be the norm.

    any questions? lemme know!
